  1. First off, I know this could be put in the adoption topic, but since it was sort of an announcement plus an adoption thing, I figured I would put it here.

I have decided to leave Neopets. I am having a hard time in my life right now and don't really have time for it. If I do ever return, it will be with a fresh new account and a clean start.

I don't currently have much but I do have a pets with good names to put up for adoption.

These are the ones up for adoption.

Viihrea a male Desert Eyrie. Only level 22.

RobinofSherwood a male Yellow Eyrie. Only level 1. [Was going to dye him brown and make him into a Robin Hood themed pet.]

Khreana a female Red Eyrie. Only level 9.

Pyrrama a male Snot Meerca. Only level 3. This was my lab rat. Started off as a red version of the new pet.

I will be deleting my account [or deactivating whichever one Neopets does.] on the 3rd of February, so a week from now. If you want one of them, please message me before then.

I am sad to be leaving as I've been playing Neopets since I was really young, but my life is really sucky right now and I feel bad just leaving my account and pets unattended.

  2. You've gotten a lot of great advice here, some of it conflicting. I recommend the book "48 Days to the Work You Love." It's got exercises to help you figure out what kind of life you want to lead (and not just employment), based on what's important to you and what you're passionate about.

My sister became a traveling nurse not long after graduating from undergrad. For the first year or so, she worked in the same department where she'd done her clinicals at the university hospital, but she wanted to see the world, and the travel nursing program helped her do that. She went to a small town in Texas, followed by Indianapolis (where she was offered a full-time, permanent position, which she took). She's very introverted, so meeting new people was hard for her, but she loved her time as a traveling nurse, and found a place to settle she never would have considered.

You're young and unattached, without mountains of debt (I assume). Go explore the world; it'll never be easier. If you do decide to come back home, it won't be a failure. You'll return with education from the school of life, so much richer for the experiences, no matter how bad they might have seemed at the time.

But where to go? What to do? How do you find that thing you want to do and get the skills necessary to do it?

    • Start saving as much money as you can. You'll need enough to pay for moving costs, deposits on your new home/utilities (often 1-2 months' of rent, and $100-200 for utilities, depending on your credit history; it could be as little as zero), vehicle insurance/tax/title (if you have a car -- when I moved to NC, I had to pay "sales tax" on my car, which was several hundred dollars, just for moving it into the state), renter/home insurance, health insurance, travel fees (I really recommend visiting a place before moving there if possible), temporary housing (if you can't visit first, while you look for a place), and all the household items you'll need (dishes, cleaning supplies, a vacuum cleaner, etc.). Plus you'll need an emergency fund in case your car breaks down, etc. Besides, your budget's going to get tighter, so saving now helps you adapt to that more frugal lifestyle and gives you experience living off a budget.
    • While you're saving, make a list of places you've always wanted to live. Then look into average cost of living, employment opportunities, weather, public transportation, crime rates, cultural activities of interest (love skiing? live near a ski resort...), educational opportunities, etc. For overseas places, look into visa requirements.
    • Also start exploring what kind of job you want (both temporarily and long-term). Exploring various career options helps you figure out what you do and don't want, but it's nice to live somewhere where you can explore multiple options. If you might want to become an actor, for example, you should go somewhere like NY, LA, or even places like Atlanta (with a burgeoning film industry and cheaper cost of living). Look into traveling jobs, like flight attendant, cruise worker, etc., if that floats your boat. Be careful of seasonal jobs (e.g., beach lifeguard or river guide). It's okay to take a temporary job, but make sure the economy is strong in all seasons where you're going (or have a plan to move elsewhere), and try to line up your next thing as quickly as possible. (For example, in Vermont, some people are summer camp counselors and work at the ski resorts in winter, but there are a few weeks in spring and fall between gigs; Myrtle Beach lifeguards, on the other hand, find it tough to find new jobs in town after the beach season is over.)
    • Narrow it down to 5-6 places, and start looking for jobs there. You might consider jobs where housing is included, or various work programs (which give you a built-in support network), such as Americorps (which can give you great experience).
    • If you realize a job you'd like requires more education, try to get a job in a related field to really see what the job is like, but also consider taking free online college classes (e.g., from Coursera) or community college classes or certification programs (e.g., if you want to be a personal trainer).
    • Once you have a job offer, use an online tool to figure out what your take-home pay would be, then create a budget based on that: food, shelter (rent + utilities -- you should be able to get average costs of utilities from the companies in that area for a home of your size), insurance (car/health/renters), transportation (vehicle costs, public transit costs -- budget for routine maintenance like oil changes, new tires/brakes/etc., but also things like gasoline), healthcare (doctor's visits, prescriptions, include a buffer for unexpected illness), pet care (if you have any), personal care (clothing - including shoes, hygiene, etc.), entertainment... use an online budget calculator, and try to have a buffer of at least $100-200/month (because your estimates might be off, and you can build your savings, which you can apply to retirement, education, travel, a newer vehicle if/once you need one, etc.). Most of these things will be pretty fixed (though there are of course ways to save in each), so you'll probably figure out the "shelter" part of the equation last. Then you'll know how much rent you can afford; hopefully you can find somewhere with that amount of rent (or cheaper).
    • Go visit where you've gotten job offers, and look at housing. It can take a while living somewhere to figure out where you want to live, so try to find somewhere safe (you can look at crime maps online), close to work (and to various stores and your preferred entertainment), and within your budget. The cheaper the housing, the more you can spend on other stuff, but usually there's a sacrifice of location/safety/quality. Figure out what matters to you, and what you don't want to compromise on.
    • Don't worry too much about the numbers/lists I just told you to make. If you have multiple offers in different places, as long as they're all viable (rent/etc. is cheaper than your pay), go with your gut. If the job doesn't work out, you can find a new one. If the place doesn't work for you after a while, you can repeat the process and find somewhere else.

Good luck! Most people have more regrets about what they haven't done than what they actually did do, so grab life by the horns and explore!

Wow thank you so much for all this great advice!

Thank you to everyone that responded! I am taking all of your advice to heart and I am slowly but surely moving forward with my plans!

I will try to keep you all updated as my life progresses! :]

  3. I am looking into finally getting out on my own. I am currently 20, not attending college because I got bad grades in high school because of how severe my depression and anxiety was at that point. So I've kind of been stuck in limbo for the past two years not being able to do anything with my life.

I know nothing will change if I continue living with my Mom, who I do not get along with, nothing is going to change. So I need to get out.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me?

I won't be moving out for a few months as I still have to figure out where I'm going. [i don't want to live in the same city as her or any of my family, possibly not even the same state.] I need a fresh start. Something different.

I currently live in Florida though I'm not the biggest fan of it down here. Before that I lived in Ohio, before that Indiana and before that Illinois.

I am considering Cleveland as I really like it there and Austin because I've always thought it seemed cool there. [i even considered Alaska.]

Any cities you guys would recommend? Hell, even a different country if you know anything about their immigration policies.

Any tips on how to get going?

I'm scared because I don't want to fail and end up back here with no direction, but I can't keep living like this.

  4. Oh! Wow, I am idiot. Thank you! :]

It cost 710,000 nps and a dubloon just to fulfill the item thing. It says the offer was accepted. But I still have all my nps and and the dubloon. And I don't have the items I traded for.

Just a glitch or should I wait longer?

  6. I opened all my bags. [i've never been that patient with those kind of things.]

Honestly, if you decide to open your bags and you do get the stamp, [and don't need it for a collection] I'd recommend selling it right away before the TP gets flooded with them. I put mine up and didn't specify any amount and within a minute had an offer for 650,000 nps. [Which I realize may not be a lot to some people but I've never had over 120,000 before.]

If you're saving up for something, it's a good way to get some more savings.

  7. This totally got away from the original purpose of this thread.

I don't really find game trophies that suspicious or anything like that, it's more the items they have.

When there are 2 month old accounts selling ALL the rarest paintbrushes, it worries me. [Also makes me kind of jealous, not gonna lie.]

Just makes me wonder how you can get all that that quickly.

  8. I'm not sure if this is just a problem with Chrome but KQ will not load for me.

It gets to this page and doesn't do anything.
    sdfupf.jpg

Is this just happening for me or are others experiencing this too?

Oh wow! Sorry the picture is so big. I didn't notice until it was already posted. :/ I suck.

  9. Based on color & my preferences alone, I like the halloween and stealthy eyries. I like the look of the stealthy eyrie when it does not have any of the stealthy clothes on.

Are you looking for anything like how easy it is to customize or if the color goes well with a lot of clothes?

It doesn't necessary have to be about what clothes it goes with and all that. I was thinking more of a colour that I could turn into a theme. Like brown for Robin Hood.

[i really wish there was a Phantom of the Opera-esque mask that fit an Eyrie because I would totally make a poto one.]

I can tell you right now - Woodland Eyrie. I just looooove this colour on them!

Good luck achieving your goals! Eyries are one of my favourite species :)

I like everything about the woodland Eyrie except for the patch of flowers on it's chest. :/

  10. I currently have my ultimate dream pet [a desert Eyrie.] and am currently working on getting my other two eyries to the colours I want. [A pink one and a brown one that is going to be a Robin Hood theme.]

BUT, I need your guys' help deciding what colour my next Eyrie should be?

Sadly [at least in my opinion] Eyries don't have many colour options. [i long for the day that the Elder colour comes out for them.]

    What do you guys think?

^_^ Thank you in advance for your help!

P.S. sorry if this is in the wrong section. I was torn between this one and the help section. :/

  11. I always find it weird when you see people who's accounts are only a few months old and they are selling or trading some of the most expensive paintbrushes, pieces and morphing potions, etc. Even multiples of the same item.

I mean, obviously it could have come from an old account and they just transferred everything but why start a new account?

I don't know, just makes me suspicious.

Am I being dumb or do some of you think like that too?

  12. I thought the premiere last night was amazing! Definitely the most action packed premiere of the entire series so far.

The reunions totally had me tearing up and Carol was a complete badass [which is something coming from me because I've never been a fan of Carol.]

    Also, MORGAN IS BACK!!!! AHHH!

It definitely got me excited for the rest of the season.

  13. With the new season starting this Sunday, I figured I see how many of you guys on here were fans.

[Though I am specifically talking about the show in this thread, not the games or the graphic novels. Though, those are awesome as well.]

    Who is everyone's favorite character?
Mine has been the same since season 1 and that is Glenn. I just think the way he reacts to things and the ways he's grown is the most believable and honest, so it's easy to relate.

In recent seasons, Michonne has quickly become my number 2, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Tara this season.

What do you think we're gonna get out of this coming season? Who do you think will live? Who do you think will die?

Do you have a couple? [Whether they are together or not as of yet.] Mine is Richonne. [Rick and Michonne.]

    :]

  14. I've always seen them in the mall but never really looked into them as I am poor [in real life, not just neopets life.] so I could never afford to buy neocash to get one.

But now that TNT has been so kind and gifted us all with 150 nc, I figured it was time to find out.

Do you just get random items or? Are they even worth it or should I save mine up to see if I get lucky with the Expellibox and try to get a Fortune Cookie?

Please and thank you for your help!

  15.

    These are awesome suggestions!

I just bookmarked all the sites!

    Wanna' share any more gems??

Sadly, I don't have anymore specific websites but I do have a few sites that offer lists of tons of those monthly subscription boxes that are all the craze now. I personally think this is an awesome gift, sign them up and have them delivered to the person each month. Just a little gift that keeps on giving, literally. Most sites have options for how many months you want your subscription to be.

These are some lists of a lot of the boxes that are offered. They range from cute things for kids to pets to things that are a little more adult so you could probably find something for anyone. Just be sure to check out some sites for reviews of the services before you commit to make sure they're worth it.

    http://mommysplurge.com/subscription-boxes-list/

    http://boxes.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/

Also, if you spend some time trolling through articles on buzzfeed, I am sure you will find lists upon lists of cool online stores to buy from.

    :] Hope this helped!

  16. ShanaLogic is great one that has lots of cute jewelry and accessories. http://www.shanalogic.com/

UncommonGoods is great and has tons of stuff ranging from housewares to books to blankets to everything in-between. http://www.uncommongoods.com/

I also really like Tattly but that is a little more specific as it is an entire site for temporary tattoos that are absolutely gorgeous. http://tattly.com/

Obviously, like everyone else said, Etsy is great, but there sites are guaranteed to be genuine stuff and they're a little easier to browse on if you don't know what you want specifically.
