Hey all,

 

I'm just coming back to neopets (and TDN) after a four month hiatus as university was keeping me quite busy! Logged on today to do my dailies, and not only did I get 15k from the fruit machine (which is probably my best haul from that) but also, checked the forgotten shore, and what should be there but a draik egg under some sand....couldn't believe it!!! It's like I've had 4 months of luck saved up! I'm just hoping they haven't seriously deflated in the past 4 months...I'll have to go have a look!

 

Anyways, hopefully you guys can catch me up on what I've missed?? When I left I thought the war was over (after my team, the Sway not doing so well) but now it seems the war is still going!? And the Altador Cup I've completely missed! So hopefully you guys can fill me in :) looking forward to a holidays spent on neopets :P

Oh dear. I should really read through entire posts first...looks like 'spritzie' on neopets will have some gifts :P Since it seems clear that user isn't on neopets anymore, does that mean the gift will just sit permanently in their inbox or is their a time limit on accepting? Thanks so much everyone for the gifts!! So nice to see how generous everyone's being, I love christmas (and TDN :P)! I *think* I've gifted everyone, except angelbones (are there any NP items you are after?)

Probably having the most fun with those asking for gallery items, I really like trying to find which items they need, especially for plushie galleries because they're just so adorable :)

So last year I remember TDN had this Christmas wishlist thing, where you post items that you would like on neopets ranging from cheap to expensive and then other people would buy them as gifts for you (and then you can buy things for them off their wish list etc). So I'm not sure if this is an official TDN thing and I'm jumping the gun (delete this post please if that's the case) but from memory it was started pretty early in December last time, so just in case it was created by a member who is no longer here, I thought I would start it since it's almost Christmas!Basically just post your item wishlist and if you're feeling generous you can buy things for other people and send it to them.

 

For example:

 

For Christmas this year, I would like:

 

- scratchcards

- books

- codestones

- cute wearables

- fireplace tales

- fashion for krawks

- peaceful sleep

- winter landscape background

- shadow paint brush (from one very rich santa :P)

 

Things to remember:

• You can gift whenever, it doesn't have to be on Christmas day
  
• Remember to include some cheaper items
  
• Make sure your inventory isn't full so you can receive gifts
  
• Cross off items when/if you receive them, and you can update or post a new list if yours gets all ticked off (lucky you!)

Awwww! They're adorable!! My friend has hamsters and I'm so envious, but I had to try hard enough to get my parents to let me have a cat :P And speaking of...I also enjoy taking photos of him and dressing him up on photoshop since he's not too keen on letting me put santa hats on him in real life hehe. My avatar is obviously one..but here's another because I can't help myself!

I think I used to be ambidextrous, because I remember always having trouble deciding what hand to use things for, but it was generally just easier to use my right for things because that's what everyone else did. I can still vaguely write/draw with my left but right is definitely preferred. There's a few things though that I still favour left for, like brushing teeth and eating. Sports wise I'm about 50/50 and because I spend half the time trying to work out which one to use, I'm bad with both :P or maybe that's just a natural lack of talent for some sports....

Well, for food, you can try to buy coupons from places such as "groupon.com". I'm not sure groupon available in Australia, but I'm sure there will be similar service.

 

However, dinner would not fit everyone tho .... Do you know your relative any better? You can try to ask around tho.

 

After all, if he's not that important. Don't stress your self. You can always get him like a pack of Bud Light. Whether he likes it or not, it's not your problem

 

Not sure about coupons, I've always felt ehhh when giving them to people. But yes, I think I'm over stressing since it's my first one! So simple might just be the solution :)

 

 

How about asking the relative he's a boyfriend of what he'd like?

 

Assuming that's not considered cheating of course...

 

Or alternatively, sometimes when I've done Secret Santa I've swapped with someone else :P

 

Weeelll when I said boyfriend I was just making it simple. He's actually an ex-boyfriend, but they had kids together and they broke up a few months ago so I think he's just coming because he wants to be with his kids, which means a) no one's really able to help me (feel a bit awkward asking my cousin) and b ) no one wants to switch with me!! Which is why I came here desperate for ideas :P

 

 

A bottle of whiskey sounds good to me, if that's something he'd like. What's your budget for this?

 

Went shopping today and found nothing except chocolate so this may be looking like the best bet. The limit is $50 but I don't mind going a little bit over.

I got many customized ideas but I don't know your friend at all, so that's all I can think of at the moment

 

Hehe that's my problem! The only time I ever see him is at christmas and even then I only *might* have a conversation with him, and if I do it's just generic 'oh doesn't the christmas tree look great' kind of conversation, so really I know him about as well as you do! Just from seeing him though with the family, he seems like a standard beer drinking kind of guy. It'd be great if I knew if he had an ipad etc to get him accessories but I just don't know :/ so really going to have to go with a generic 'everyone will like it' kind of gift, that seems thoughtful...hrmm. restaurant reservations probably fits well with that...can you pre-pay restaurants for a dinner??

Last year, I did Secret Santa, and my person was a college-age guy. I ended up giving him a quality set of headphones--something that is useful while still fun, and played to his musical tastes.

 

That's not a bad idea actually...not sure if he's particularly into music but you know, who isn't? Did you get those bulky type of headphones? I always imagined them to be really expensive :(

Ahh definitely considered that one, and it's one of those things that people actually like because they'll use it, but I feel like everyone will think it's a bit of a cop out :P

Soo I've finally been initiated into my family's kris kringle giving this year, and I have a $50 limit to buy for the boyfriend of a relative (so I don't know him super well), but he's early 30's and your average Aussie blokey bloke. All I can think of is a bottle of scotch/whiskey or something?

 

Do you guys have any suggestions?? What have you given in the past for KK/SS? Or what have you received that you liked? Btw the family's not really into jokey gifts, so probably avoid those, looking for something nice-ish??

Got a toy sword, not worth much, but at least its pretty :D

I actually re-added this to my dailies only a few days ago, as the 100k prize pool (10k + item) more than covers the play fee. From memory it took me a few weeks to finally knock one down to get the avatar, just keep at it :) And I found that the clicking the 'a' (of 'again') method works pretty welll.

Just checked on mine and it's not happening with me (I tried Kass basher specifically) although I've been finding that neopets has been pretty glitchy and slow tonight (NC mall stopped working for a bit, pages are often taking a while to refresh etc) so might just be that, otherwise you could try doing the usual clear cache/cookies and what not or trying a different browser. Could also try the mirror versions of the games?

Hopefully it will just pass!

Hehehe. I'm not sure why you would want that, but that's the male version of the royalgirl poogle. I guess they thought they had to make him as manly as possible given that he is dressed as a queen/princess! This is the female royalgirl:

 

Which I think is much better with the eyelashes than the fuzzy brows, but still ehh. Kind of angry and unpleasant looking :/ and I like poogles!

I added an important note to our guide this morning. If you manage to get all the snowballs and melt them you will get one of each item. You can't get duplicates.

 

I clicked the snowflake in the animation and got my bonus prize and snowball there.

 

I'm guessing that means that in total, everyone is going to get 10 snowballs, and maybe they come out on different days for different people?

I used some leftover NC today to get the mittens (which turned wearable, yay!) and got:

Ahh I've been there!! Luckily on holidays now so all my papers are done for the year :) But as for advice on referencing, do you know what style you have to do it in? Harvard, APA or something else?

Also, for finding papers on empathy (are you doing psychology by the way?), does your university have an online library? Because journal articles are really useful for psychology experiments and such.

Does anyone know what item is inside the snowball (is it different for different people)? I have NC that I've never used from the GMC, so if it's something reaally cute/pretty maybe I'll get it.

Thanks guys! I've never heard of those sites, so will definitely check them out! I think I've probably just been being overly paranoid about this :P But essentially I can use other people's images as long as it doesn't say I can't (like with that copyright stuff over the image)? Might have a go at trying to see if neopets has any specific policy on it...

So I'm curious about how copyright works in terms of using other people's pictures. I know that for a user lookup that you take from someone else you credit them, but what if I want to use a generic picture as a background for my user look up or avatar/signature for TDN or something? For example, if I wanted to make a user lookup with a sunset as a background, and I googled sunset and used a picture, is that fine? Is it ok to submit to a spotlight if you've used other people's images (obviously not the art one)? Or do I actually have to go out and take a photo of a sunset/draw one?? Never really understood what the unspoken rules are around this, so any guidance would be appreciated :)

Just if you need confirmation, what icedragonair said is true :) I have an ipod and iphone and they are both synced to the same computer. The scary over-riding bit happens when you plug your iphone/ipod to a different computer and sync it with that (although you can just go back to your computer and re-sync it). Also it's great to sync your iphone with itunes, because it backs up everything, and I mean literally EVERYTHING. My iphone had a little accident once and I got a replacement and when I synced it with itunes, it had all my texts, apps, calender stuff, even notes, it was like I had exactly the same phone. Not really your question... but just an added bonus :)
