RESULTS: WEEK 2

Hello Contestants!

So, you've had since Sunday, and we finally have the results for the second week of the contest, *prods Luna*. It's time now to announce whom won the Codestone, and who got the Chess game correct! And the winner of the Main Codestone is:

TACO BANDITO!

He checkmated White by Sep 29 2007, 10:01 PM

Congratulations to him, he was the first to submit and the first to get it right!. A Main Codestone will be heading your way, just PM me your Neopets account that you would like it sent to. As an added bonus, the first three to checkmate will be able to allocate an extra 10 damage to whomever they choose. This will be available for this week's scenario ONLY. The winners of the 10 damage points are: Taco Bandito, Isabel and Strategos! Incredibly, Isabel is in second for the second time running, and she's also the only one of last week's top three to get it right! THE CORRECT ANSWER WAS TO MOVE THE QUEEN FROM G6 TO G7. Only 4 people got it right! =O. Here are the results!

The explanation for the scenario answer.

Before:

WildlifeScenario2.jpg

After:

WildlifeScenario2Explanation.jpg

If the king is placed in check, then there are 3 ways you can rescue it:

- Move the king out of the way. This cannot be done since all of the squares the white king can move to are under fire.

- Place a piece between the king and the piece threatening it so as to block the piece's line of sight. This cannot be done as the black queen is threatening the white king at point blank range.

- Take the piece threatening the king. Only the white king itself or the white bishop at F6 can do this. If the white king moves to take the black queen, it will come under fire from the black rook at H7. If the white bishop is used to take the black queen, the king will come under fire from the black rook at F3.

So presto, checkmate!

Or maybe you just cleared out your inbox too early. :P

Just dropping another hint for the next scenario while Crusher isn't looking: start considering who you really want to attack.

"If you move the rook at H7 down one space to H8, that would be a checkmate." --Vira

"Knights (looks like a horse) can move only in an L pattern. Moves 2 spaces either vertically or horizontally, and then moves one space horizontally or vertically, making the standard L move." said by Smumpkins.

So if what Smumpkins said is true, wouldn't moving the rook at H7 to H8 be true? Because the knights wouldn't be able to attack the rook....:S

Vira - No, it wouldn't, because white could move the Knight to G8 and therefore block the Rook on H8 from taking the king. Its not checkmate then, because the king can be saved...

I hope you understood that XD I'm not very good at explaining chess!

Scenario: Week 3

Scenario continued for Boomer, Taco Bandito, Isabel and Strategos:

You order the Queen, and she closes in on the King, bearing down over him. He looks at you, glaring in fury, before trying to find a way out. His fury turns to grief as he realises he's blocked, and he looks at the Queen with terror as she fells him with one mighty swing of her blade. He crumbles to dust, and suddenly all of the White pieces shatter and fragment, becoming only a forgotten pile of dust. You turn to the Black King, who nods his pleasure. "Thank you, my friend, for your help. You may now leave." His body returns to stone, as does all the remaining Black team. They appear to just be statues, nothing more. Already exhausted, you turn to open the hatch under the pile of stone fragments where the opposing King once stood.

Scenario continued for everyone else:

You make a valiant attempt to take charge, ordering the piece you chose, but to no avail. The King merely blocks or escapes and you manage to lose the upper hand in battle. Suddenly the White King takes a swing at you, and knocks you over, wounded. You cry out in pain, and suddenly everything shatters into oblivion, dust now flying through the air. You limp towards the hatch, hoping for a nice shelter from the danger that lurks in the form of the other wild animals on the island. You've already had some bad encounters with some of them. You wince at the thought, crawling through the trapdoor.

Continued for all:

As you open the hatch, you suddenly fall forward, apparently pushed by a rabbit tapping a stopwatch. It falls past you, and you slide down what appears to be a large rabbit hole. Just as you begin to wonder why this scenario sounds so like "Alice in Wonderland," you fall into the center of a massive arena. The ground scratches your toes, and you suddenly scream out as the ground gives way yet again, leading downwards to a metal chamber of sorts. The ground is cold, and there is a ghostly transparent creature standing near you.

"My name is Articia, and this is the Gladiatorial Death Match Ring." He begins to equip you with various pieces armour, apparently the area's battle gear. "Long ago, this was a battle ground for the strongest of animals. It decided wars, arguments, and territory. Those who were too weak were left for the buzzards. The strongest will prevail, and will reap major rewards. I was once a mighty Lion, and ruled over this land. However, the humans cursed me when they came to this island, and they left me to forever haunt this place. It has become my home, and you and your opponents all have been chosen as the future rulers of this land. Prepare for battle, young one."

NOTES:

* This week whoever you attack will receive triple damage from you.

* This scenario has no added challenges, so there is no question you need to answer.

* Everyone will be restored to 100 Health before the round starts, and then it's a free-for-all fight. I had to do this or by the end of the week half of the animals would be dead. Those who already had 100 health are now at 120 health as a bonus.

* Whoever loses the most health after everyone has finished attacking will be defeated and will 'die' from the competition. That person will not be able to continue the contest.

* You cannot rest this round, only attack.

* Anyone who dies can grant 5 health to whomever they choose once a week, however that person will not know who did so, and the health gain will not be listed on the battle results page.

* Those who die can't win the contest.

* After everyone has finished fighting, whoever has the most health left at the end will gain a special ability, which will only be revealed once the fight is over.

* You need to tell me: Who you are attacking, and (if you're Taco Bandito, Isabel or Strategos) who you are allocating the extra 10 damage too.

* All abilities have no effect for this scenario. So no one's going to have extra defence, and no one's going to get health from Vampire Blood.

* GOOD LUCK, and may the best man or woman win!

It's about who has the least health. Even if two people go below 0 health, the will simple have -health (i.e. Health: -13). Then whoever is the lowest (or whoever has the most negative health) dies. The other one would be restored to 1 hp.

*Pokes Crusher* Yeaah, I think he's a little confused... I think he thought you were talking about the disabled abilities thing, when you actually meant the health restoration back to 1hp. The reason for the health restoration is to make it slightly more fair, otherwise we might have too many people dropping out of the contest.
