Yay for New Ruger .380

So today I made the decision to get a new handgun (a little Ruger .380 with a laser attached) instead of a new refrigerator.... oops. Haha. Ooh well, my fridge now works alright so that can wait. But I am absolutely in love with my new piece. I got my concealed carry permit a few weeks ago so this is my first purchase acting on that. She/he is so cute. But I haven't got any names for him/her yet.

Any name ideas? (: You know how much I value the TDNF general consensus. Except when it comes to the Obelisk War.... the popular opinion here and everywhere else (aka the Neoboards) has really not worked. XD Anyways, shoot me some names if you have an idea. I am game for absolutely anything and everything, and wouldn't even be opposed to something Neo-themed!

The concept of guns is very alarming to me as well, but as a bartender I've had problems with overly-aggressive patrons becoming the stalker type. And since America thinks everyone needs to wield a gun, some crazy people end up getting them and causing the chain reaction for everyone else to think they need one too. /: One of the many flaws around here. But I have finally decided to just embrace this craziness and try to be educated, responsible, and safe about it. So I've decided to get some self-defense help. I doubt and very much hope that I will never have to use him to harm anyone. I'm too hippie to hurt anyone, haha. And bullets are too expensive, anyhow+rare to come by for .380s.

Ruger Hauer. (You know... the actor? Rutger Hauer?) *shrug*

I'm actually opposed to guns anywhere except in the hands of the authorities. It enables criminals to get a hold of them more easily. That said... the American way of life practically demands owning one. (I'm assuming you're from the US?) Ordinary people do need a way to defend themselves against corrupt militia and so on, yet it goes against my Canadian grain. I think in some ways you might be better served by knowing some serious self-defense skills, like karate, tae kwon do, krav maga (the Israeli martial art), judo, and so on. Something like that can be non-lethal, but very effective. Of course... it takes a ton of commitment, but then so does a gun.

I like to think that I would never own one, yet, there are times..... I've seriously considered taking up archery, but that's not practical as a suggestion for you, is it?

It's a tough call. I wish you luck.

Maybe Rogue the Ruger? Or something alliterative?

I've always wanted to learn how to shoot a gun, except when I was at school, they didn't let me since I wasn't a US citizen at uni. Now I don't have time to learn. I know how to fence and shoot (archery), but I'm rubbish at self-defence since I'm so small. Is it difficult to learn how to use a gun or does it depend on each type of gun or stuff?

Archery is an AWESOME skill to have, regardless. It's great for hunting, easier to make the necessary items for a bow/arrow, and of course Katniss made it cool. XD I've just never gotten into it much because it takes a lot of strength, skill, and someone good to teach you the basics. Plus it's kind of expensive to get into, especially if you don't know what you're doing. I am from the US, yes. The problem a lot of citizens are also having over here is that we have corrupt, power-hungry cops that shoot and kill innocent and harmless people. I know the media has been really focusing on it and sensationalizing it lately, which makes people panic more than they should, but it is a legitimate problem and has been for a while, which is sad. The people we trust to protect us, it seems, are more likely the ones that will be hurting us.

For many years I was opposed to handguns, and I'm still a little leery. But education and exposure has changed my mind a bit, although I still don't have a mean bone in my body so the thought of using it on someone is horrible to think about. I also spend most of my time alone in a house very far from any towns, which is generally safe except for if someone bad were to come, I'd be helpless and far from any law enforcement. My grandmother was actually killed by two men who were high on meth when I was a kid, and they had guns, so I think that is what really made me anti-gun for a long time. Had she been educated and equipped, she may have saved herself and other innocents who were harmed and killed by these men.

Thanks for the ideas, I like them. Rogue is sounding pretty awesome, especially because it's the name of one of my favorite craft breweries as well. XD
