juststoppingby
Disclaimer: I do take responsibility for asking the involved party about their usage of a different site. I know it is against the rules, but I did not want to be the middle person. So, someone on tumblr asked me to contact their friend for them because the tumblr user was silenced on neopets. I agreed to help them contact their friend, and in hindsight, I should have told this person to use a side account in the first place. Anyways, I contact her friend through neomail, letting her know that (tumblr user) contacted me on a blogging site starting with the letter 't' and told me to tell her that she was silenced. Her friend neomails me back and tells me to tell her when her friend gets her account unsilenced. Thinking that I should back out of this, I neomailed her back asking if she had an account on tumblr so that she could contact her friend instead. Then boom. Silenced permanently. Again. This is probably all my fault and in hindsight it was very stupid of me not to think of the side account idea in the first place.
Neechan
Silenced permanently? That seems harsh. I've asked people directly to message me on facebook several times and only ever got warnings. Not even a short silence. =/
Pookies
Wow... I also think that is pretty harsh, especially considering Neechan's post. Try filling a ticket explaining what happened... and that you weren't trying to contact them, but trying to help them get in contact with their friend. :/ In the past, I have gotten warnings (my school friend and I were talking about a teacher we had or a class room or something, and we got warnings for talking about our personal lives although we knew each other in person *eyeroll* -- I know they do this to protect kids but eh) I guess that was a bit unrelated... I mean, I have referred to other websites like "video website" or "YT" and "FB" but never gotten warnings.
juststoppingby
Neopet's ticket system is down...so I sent the support team an email instead and explained my story. I hope they read their emails... Before I read your stories, I thought the neopets team was always this harsh with rules. Now this hardly seems fair. I barely use the neomail system in the first place and I get permanently silenced on my first broken rule? Gahh. I hope this gets resolved soon. But then again I played neopets without it's social functions just fine for several years.
hrtbrk
Trying to contact someone offsite is strictly forbidden. It's one of their biggest rules. It's not harsh at all, nor is the silencing unfair. Sucks that it happened but not much you can do now. Hopefully you have a side to chat on?
Novelista
Permasilence for something that gets the rest of us warned? That's crazy. Yes, Hrtbrk, you're right, it is one of their biggest rules. But silencing without warning is the unfair part, when so many of the rest of us are only ever warned.

In hindsight, I should have declined helping the person contact her friend/told her to contact her from a side account. I was trying to help someone and I wasn't trying to get her contact information for my own gain. I DO accept my punishment, it is just definitely one of those "wow, really?". I appreciate your bluntness about this though (not trying to be rude). I barely even post on the neoboards or use neopet's other social functions in the first place. But it was definitely a nice option IF I ever needed help on a faerie quest or to read on different neopet game topics.

Erm...someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe permasilenced also forbids you from altering your profile and petpages. (I was just thinking about that the other night and realized that that prevents the recipients from protesting the injustice of it all.) I know it prevents neomailing--as you surely discovered. That's why Hrtbrk asked if you had a side...essentially, you're done for. (And yes, I was just about to ask why you felt the need to play monkey-in-the-middle.) (I think I almost said I wanted to pet your avvie on here. :laughingsmiley: )

I thought it would be a nice thing to do to tell her friend that she was silenced and did not think of telling her to use her side account. After her friend told me to keep her updated, I wanted to leave that up to them. Which got me silenced.
Novelista
Oh. Well, if you're cool with not being able to update your profile or your petpages, then there's nothing to worry about. :)*gives you a hug anyway. hugs are useful*
Pookies
Yeah, but the OP was not trying to get in contact with someone. She was trying to point someone to contact their friend. And it seems harsh because others either get warned or nothing at all (me included). So for someone who barely uses those options anyway, yeah it seems like over kill. :/
