The Newsroom

Hello, everyone, and welcome back! This is Matt, reporting live from the newsroom. I have the results from...

[The picture abruptly cuts to Altador.] "Hi, Matt!!! It's me, Austin. I'm in the field today. Let the fine folks at home know I'm okay." [The image goes back to Matt in the newsroom.]

WHAT!? [shouts at someone off-camera.]

Get the helicopters in here, NOW!

Sir, you are aware we are indoors, correct?

I said NOW!

Anyways, like I was saying, I have the results from the Alabriss Bracket and we have some interesting results. Let's get started.

Team Darigan Citadel Darigan Citadel and Kiko Lake, two contenders for the top spot in the Alabriss Bracket, went head-to-head today. Kiko Lake was able to take the early lead against the Minions, but the dynamic duo of Layton and Tandrak plowed through the Kikos in the second half, winning Yooyuball. The Minions then managed to nearly side sweep the Kikos, but the Kikos were able to take Slushie Slinger.

On the opposite side of this bracket, we saw underdogs Lost Desert and Mystery Island face off. Lost Desert, having almost been swept twice already in the Cup, took those defeats and used them to their advantage. Lost Desert was able to almost sweep the Natives, only losing in Shootout Showdown, the Mummies' weak spot. Mystery Island isn't off to a strong start this year, and hopefully they can handle whatever problems they may have and regain ground in the coming days. The upcoming days are going to be very critical as the last day of the first round brackets is approaching. All the teams are going to be scrambling to take as many points as they can.

Team MeridellMeridell and Kreludor are facing off for their second time already in the Cup. The results were exactly like a mirror match from yesterday. Meridell was able to take Yooyuball and nearly swept Kreludor in the side games. However, Kreludor was able to bounce back and take Slushie Slinger. Meridell is a very strong contender this year, and will be a team to watch in the upcoming days.

Now we turn to Lydia, who is live in the field with the latest results from the Minitheus Bracket.

[The image switches to Austin.]

"Ahhh! Perfect! My cameraman!

"But... uhhh... What are you doing? This segment isn't for you! Are you crazy!?"

Over here weeeee gooooooo... AND ACTION!

"You don't even go here! What are you doi-"

I SAID ACTION!

The ColosseumThank you Matt, I am live from the concourses of the colosseum, overlooking a beautiful sunrise, after another marvelous day of Yooyuball. The action was very one-sided in the Minitheus bracket, as we saw two sweeps in the most tightly-contested bracket so far in this Cup. Tyrannia and Krawk Island are rising to be the top two coming out of this bracket, but we could see Brightvale jump in and surprise us, as they were in second place early in the day yesterday. Let's go over the results now; then we'll have a live interview with Tyrannia newcomer Mor Gollog.

Dasher SoleyThe Pirates seemed to spook the Zombies, as they put them away for the second time in a row. Krawk Island was able to outlast the Haunted Woods on the fields for a second straight day with a score of six to five. The game was much closer than experts originally thought it would be, as both of the former champs fought hard until the final whistle. Krawk Island left forward, Ealyn Hawkshanks, really impressed yesterday, as he put five of the Pirates six goals into the net. Hawkshanks has stepped up as a reliable striker for the team, something they have been missing since former star "Dasher" Soley retired.

Maraqua has yet to make a big splash so far in the Cup in Yooyuball, but they once again excelled in the side games, earning a sweep of them in their most recent contest with Terror Mountain. The Chillers’ stifling defense made Maraqua seem ice-cold in the first half, as the Mermaids weren't able to score once. The Chillers gave their five point lead away in the second half, as the Mermaids fought from being down five to zero to tie it up. The Chillers maintained their good defense and midway through the second half put away what proved to be the game-winner, right past Maraquan goalkeeper Tonie Plessix.

The Fossils from Tyrannia continued to rock the competition, as the completed their third sweep in a row by ousting the Wizards of Brightvale. With Brightvale and Tyrannia both undefeated in Yooyuball at the start of yesterday, the game appeared to be a great spectacle. The Wizards put together a magical first half, jumping out to a four to two lead. It wouldn't last long though, as the Fossils came out roaring in the second half and put up five unanswered points to take a seven to four lead. The Wizards made it interesting later on, as they put two more Yooyus into the back of the net, but the Fossils held on to win by a one point margin, seven to six.

Tyrannia has started the year very hot, and has shushed all doubters with their third consecutive sweep. We'll see if the Fossils have what it takes to win it all. We now have Tyrannia newcomer, Mor Gollog with us live.

Mor GollogMor, can you tell us more about your initial feelings about being traded?

Mor: You know how many times people use that joke on me, Austin?

I don't know, a Gollogan?

Mor: Wha- th-that's not even a thing! I think I may just lea-

Ahem - My apologies. So, Mor, how do you feel about your team's play so far?

Mor: I feel like we're-

And that isn't a good sound.

[Helicopters come into focus.]

I think I'm out, Matt, take it from here. As always, Neopia, keep it classy."

Uhhh, OK, then. Well I hope you make it back here safely. Anyways, the results from the Vaelous Bracket have just come in, and I have them in my hands, so let's get started.

Today we saw Altador and Virtupets compete against each other. The Suns have been on fire for the past few days, and today was no different. Altador was able to cleanly sweep Virtupets in all the games. Everyday, Altador is looking more like a contender for the Cup, but will they be able to handle the powerhouse teams? Only time can tell.

The Vaeolus Bracket has been a sweepfest for the past few days, and for Roo Island and Shenkuu today was no different. Roo Island managed to take the early lead against the Ninjas, who weren't able to take it back, even with their expert ninja techniques. Roo Island was then able to sidesweep the Ninjas as well, supporters cheering for their sweep.

Aldric BeignFor the last matchup for the day, we have Moltara against Faerieland. Faerieland was able to take Yooyuball from Moltara, while it seems like Moltara focused more on the side games today, cleanly sweeping the Faeries in all of them. Last year, Moltara was able to finally break their 18th place slump, but as of right now they'll have to improve if they don't want to end up back there.

Next, we move on to our matches to watch. We have some interesting matchups today, along with some repeats.

Altador and Virtupets will be playing against each other again today. This match will be one to watch as many people will be wondering if Altador can keep up their sweeping streak, or if former winners Team Virtupets will be able to make a comeback today.

Kiko Lake will be looking for revenge against Darigan Citadel today as they face off for the second time. Kiko Lake has some catching up to do though, dropping from first in their bracket to fourth.

Former champions Lost Desert and Kreludor will be going head-to-head today. With both of them having a few wins under their belts, this match will certainly be interesting to watch.

Well, this is Matt from The Daily Neopets, signing off. Have a good day, every-

What was that? AUSTIN!?

[There is no image, only Austin's voice.]

"Hey guys! I'm alright. No need to worry any longer. I used the old "put the C-4 on the door" trick. Now, who has my press badge?"

[The image switches back to Matt.]

SECURITY! Get security in here! I want this trespasser off our studio!

*Ahem* Have a good day everyone! This is Matt signing off!

No Austin, what are you doing!?

[The image cuts out to snow.]

C-4 guys? You can do better than that! Lockpicking lessons could take you guys a long way.

Anyways, right in the rules it says that "During the round, every team in the bracket will play each other once" which has clearly already been broken by Kreludor vs Meridell which is downright weird. I guess we won't really know what the plan is until we see another repeat day.

Also, it looks like with this new ratios system that there won't be anymore draws, which should make calculating stats easier.

I'm amazed that my team won YYB over Maraqua. We're not particularly known for our strength in the main game.

I'd like for us to improve on our sidegame scores though since that's where we tend to show more strength.

Or we could combine the best of both worlds! C-4 lockpicks ftw!

Apparently Shenkuu is simply shameful. No coverage for us. :P

Or maybe your coverage was simply so stealthy you missed it. ;)
