Yay for spring weather!

Yesterday we had a high of 70° F (21°C), and it is the beginning of another lovely spring day here in Boston! It's only meant to get in the mid 60's (16* C) today but the sun is shining and if I want to go somewhere I won't have to bundle up in the usual peacoat/scarf/hat combo I've been wearing for the last six months! In Boston we know spring has really sprung when they fill the reflecting pool at the Christian Science Plaza and the pond in the Public Garden. The reflecting pool gurgled to life yesterday afternoon, so we're halfway there! I may have to swing by the Common later and check out the pond :)

Here in Atlanta, you know it's "spring" when the air turns yellow. It's not even close to the peak yet (pollen counts were only in the 2000's yesterday; last year, they got up to nearly 5 times that on the worst days), but I find it hard to breathe outside, and I don't even have allergies or asthma. Usually spring starts in January with the daffodils, but they didn't come until ~3 weeks ago this year. But now the world is abloom, people are donning shorts, and pools are opening. Yay, spring! Summer won't be long behind, my favorite season.

Oh, that is a very interesting phenomenon! I have never heard of pollen being so abundant that the air turns yellow. The closest thing I have experience is with cottonwood trees in Seattle. They send out their seeds in puffs of fluff that looks like cotton. From the end of March to the end of May it is everywhere in some neighborhoods with a lot of old growth it looks like there is snow on the ground. It's a common allergen too, so I'm sure Walgreens makes quite a bit of money on Antihistamines in the Springtime :P

I love the phrasing "the world is abloom". It draws the mental picture of everyone coming out of their houses together. Wearing shorts, filling pools, and riding bikes. Sunshine and good feelings for sure.

I'm getting Winter weather right now. :sad02: You are very lucky.

I always find it interesting that only half of the world is experiencing the same season. The idea that it is winter right now in Australia is so interesting, because that means you have Christmas in the summertime! I don't know if I could adjust to the idea of going without a White Christmas.
