Rarity 180 and random events - a question

According to the neopets help page (here: http://www.neopets.c...tml?help_id=388):

180 - Retired. This item will never again be released and its rarity will never be changed from 180.

Is this true, however, that you can get them from random events? For example, I've heard that you can get retired food from random events (I think I might have gotten "bread" before, but am not sure). This would, or course, explain why many r180 foods are only worth a couple thousand neopoints :)

I started to consider this possibility because I was pricing my SDB and the retired items: grapes, bread, wriggling grub, peach, nachos, chicken and banana are only worth about 3k, 36k, 300np, 2k, 1k, 1k, 2k each. And the 36k item is only expensive because it can be combined in the cooking pot with neopox pizza to make a stat-increasing item.

And what about retired items? retired collectables? advent calendar-exclusive items?

if an event gives out a certain item , it will still give this item even if it's retired from shops .. this is why u can still get retired food from Dice A Roo , Inside the mind of a lupe from King Altador ... and retired PB's like Faerie or Glass (which isn't usable but it exists) ....

That makes sense. Thank you!

Now I just wish there was some way of knowing what items can be given out by random events, so I could figure out which ones are safe to sell... there isn't, is there?

There are many retired items but they are very cheap for a long / long time. So, should I continue to wait or shold I sell them?

If they're worth very little, you might as well hold on to them, because who knows, they might become worth more. But stuff that has been given out from the advent calendar and such probably won't become terribly valuable in any foreseeable future. The other day I checked the worth of some things from the advent calendar in Y5, and they were only being sold for a couple of thousand.

That's a shame. :( Especially since most of the prizes are really great this year.
