Guest strophysicist Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Parent-teacher confrences... Hey!! I have a nice mini-contest for you guys... Define a black hole in no more than five words. It must be in a sentence. You only get one try here. Winner (if there is a winner) will get a random item out of my inventory. Quote
Ellie_Penguin Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Okay here's my entry lol Black hole: non-visual and non-escapable gravitational field Quote
Guest strophysicist Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 There is just one problem with your definition Penguin Ruler, no gravitational field is visible. We can't see Earth's gravitational field can we? We see its effects on its surroundings, just look at the moon. But the field itself is not visible, black-hole or no. Quote
Ellie_Penguin Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 oh yea that's right. Oh well, I tried. Quote
Meeptroid Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Here's my definition. Object predicted by general relativity. Quote
Empress Keiko Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Okay... Where Matter can't escape through. Quote
Guest strophysicist Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 "Object" that is the key to the definition I am looking for. And it was predicted by Einstein's equations. But what is it exactly? Sorry Metroid, your definition doesn't say. Quote
Empress Keiko Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Is mine okay? I didn't use 'Object', though. Quote
Meeptroid Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Heh, oh well. It's pretty challenging to place a definition in five words. Then again, that's why this is a contest... Quote
Guest strophysicist Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 "Where Matter can't escape through." Too vague, and it does absorb light as well. Is anyone else going to try it? Or should I give Totakeiko, Penguin Ruler, and Metroid a second chance each? Quote
.Dan. Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Is it a black-hole-like event,or another vortex? Quote
Guest strophysicist Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Ok, mini-contest over. I wanted something like this. A point of infinite density. 'point' could be substituted with 'object'. and 'density could have been substituted with 'gravity'. Quote
Ellie_Penguin Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Well, my brain isn't working right now lol those evil potions! I'm eating my chip ahoy cookies with milk Quote
Meeptroid Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Well, it was a pretty good contest anyway. Quote
Guest strophysicist Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I HATE THE POTIONS!!! There should be an website of solutions so people can just go and find the combination that would works... Quote
Meeptroid Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I wish there was! I can't even do the first potion. Part of it being confused, the other part being a little lazy. Quote
Ellie_Penguin Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 But a lot of people are helping and they're so nice! At first, I was confused with the whole divination and stuff, but now it's much easier, but still requires a lot of patience. Quote
Anime Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 There's several! I've used 2 to get the right combos. And I just finished, so I can't wait to see what this one dose. x_x My head hurts now. SO much for "No school=no headache" Quote
