Ellie_Penguin
Or maybe the little girl's parents will learn their lesson from this? I'm sure they're learning the lesson right now, but I still think they need to be punished because if not, other parents might still do the same. What they did was a very inmature thing. Well, right now I just want the little girl to come back safe. After that we can talk more about the parents.
Samuel
@ Ellie: Hundreds of people do it, all the time. If you're on holiday, you feel safe and secure, most of the time. Besides, it was only a two minute walk away, and then checked her every 30mins at the most - more than some parents would do. And the fact of the matter is, whatever happened, that little girl is missing and needs to be back with her parents. @ this whole topic: We've noticed that you're debating news events in this topic. That's not what we want; if you'd like to discuss a major story, please feel free to make a new topic about it! We'd love to discuss some more indepth. Please only post 'short' stories here :) - TDN's Big Brothers ;o
antiaircraft
It's nice to see that the whole GI search seems to be finally getting somewhere: Gen. Believes 2 Of Missing GIs Still Alive The top U.S. commander in Iraq thinks he knows who kidnapped three U.S. soldiers last weekend and believes that at least two of them are alive, the Army Times newspaper reported. "We know who that guy is," Gen. David Petraeus said in an interview posted Saturday on the Army Times Web site. Petraeus did not give the man's name but described him as "sort of an affiliate of al Qaeda. He's the big player down in that area. We've tangled with him before." Chipmonker
US President George W Bush has chosen Robert Zoellick, former deputy secretary of state, to be president of the World Bank, US officials say. Mr Zoellick would replace Paul Wolfowitz, who resigned amid a scandal over his role in winning a new pay and promotion package for his girlfriend. Mr Wolfowitz will leave the post at the end of June. Mr Bush will name Mr Zoellick on Wednesday, and expects the Bank's board to accept him, an aide told Reuters. Chief aide Meanwhile, AFP quoted a government source as saying that Mr Zoellick's "experience and long career in international trade, finance and diplomacy make him uniquely prepared to take on this challenge". They added: "He has the trust and respect of many officials around the world and believes deeply in the World Bank's mission of tackling poverty." As deputy secretary of state, Mr Zoellick was chief aide to Condoleezza Rice between February 2005 and June last year. He is also an ex-US trade representative and is currently an executive at the investment bank Goldman Sachs. Earlier this week Mr Wolfowitz told the BBC that an "overheated" atmosphere at the bank and in the media forced him to resign. The outgoing head, whose appointment was originally opposed by many European nations, said the bank's board did accept that he had acted ethically, and in good faith. And he told the BBC World Service that his own actions were not the root cause of his departure. He had a funny picture posted on the BBC news page... antiaircraft
Wireless power pulls plug on cables POWER cables and plugs may soon become obsolete because scientists have developed a way to wirelessly charge electrical devices from a distance. WiTricity can already power a lightbulb over a distance of 2m, and its inventors believe that within three to five years the system would be able to charge mobile phones, laptops, MP3 players and other electronic devices. The appliances would only need to be within range of a WiTricity transmitter to work. Man buckled in wheelchair gets ride of life At first, dispatchers didn't know whether what they were hearing was a prank. "You are not going to believe this," said a woman who called Michigan State Police on Wednesday. "There is a semi truck pushing a guy in a wheelchair on Red Arrow Highway." As dispatchers took the information and tried to determine whether the call was genuine, more calls began coming into the Van Buren County dispatch center: A man whose wheelchair had become lodged in the grille of a tractor-trailer rig was being pushed down the road.
