Shoyru_tamer
So initially, neopets was targeted at college students (back in the day). So are subeta and Ichumon (neopets competitors), have more mature pet designs? What would it take to make a more mature pet/monster raising game that would appeal more to the college students? Sweetdang
To be honest I've never heard of either one of them. I guess the graphics... depending on who you're targeting. They either can be the cutesy type that attract mostly girls, or the artisic pretty ones. Like the ones in Subeta. Also the type of games. Puzzle and adventure - artistic/complex or cutesy/simple. If you're aiming or college students, an open forum on the site itself would be rather nice. And apt, I would think. Allow there to be an adequate amount of items before you start up your site. Make sure it's something your users would like. Stuff like that.
Alynniae
And everything is about how they advertise, i think the advertisements on tv when the daily dare is there (or at least the one 2 years ago) were very childish, while the daily dare itself isn't childish. They also have the problem that everybody calls it childish, if the cool kids would say that neopets was awesome, than there would be a lot more people playing it, just because it's not childish because the cool people said so. Humans are strange like that :laughingsmiley:
shiranui_xiii
Hm... The artwork would have to be less "childish" and more like a realistic cartoon. Filters on the boards/messaging system would definitely have to be loosened up a bit. Games would have to be more difficult, too. Then again, I love puzzle games, so that's probably my bias talking. Something would have to be done about advertisements. They make Neopets look like a little cartoony kids game... Which it is, to a point. Ruka
A less 'cartoon-ish' , 'cutesy' , 'child-like' type pet-/monster- raising game might appeal to college students so they won't feel out of place or something like that (for them, not for us). :P And the advertisements too. They probably wouldn't want advertisements with Nick-related stuff on it. :P
hrtbrk
If you can enjoy all the features of the site, I don't think it's childish at all. Sure, if you're underage and have restrictions, then yes, I could see that. But with all the adult/pop culture jokes TNT puts in, the plots, the new games they've been adding, and the updated artwork to name a few, I do think it's pretty mature. I know a LOT more users who are +18 that play Neopets than users who are 14 and under.
Welcome Back Apathy
My honest opinion is...what's the point of making it more mature? They have a huge, HUGE number of users. If they changed anything, they might alienate their current members instead. If they made it more mature, they wouldn't be able to hook younger users. And a lot of those younger users end up becoming lifelong users who don't care about how "childish" it is. Notice how many users neopets has compared to the other two you mentioned. bataclops
It would be nice if neopets changed the advertisements before games. Since they are for My Little Pony and Spongebob (and nothing 18+ themed) they make it seem as if the site IS targeting kids. Also, having to wait for the same ads to play over and over is annoying too :P
Sweetdang
But that's how they earn money! From the non-paying, at least. :)
