I had braces for about a year and a half when I was about 8-9 years old. The first few days, my teeth were so sore, I couldn't bite down on anything even remotely hard. But thankfully, the soreness goes away after a few days. Just try to eat soft things until they feel better.

Brushing/flossing with braces is rather annoying. I'd definitely call your orthodontist and see about picking up something to help clean between the wires.

I had braces for seven years. Seven torturous years. Don't ask me why, my teeth were far from messed up when we started. My orthodontist was just evil. :grrr:

Anyway, the first few days are awful, yes. And the next couple of days after they're tightened. But it's not always like that. Most the time you just forget that they're there.

I don't think I'll have them for that long, Does it hurt when you tighten braces?(Shakes in fear)

It hurt for me when they tightened them. Or it was more just like a dull ache, kind of sore for a while. Not completely intolerable or anything, but definitely annoying.

When the orthodontist gives you an appointment for it. XD I think it's like every 6 months or something, but I could be way wrong. I haven't had braces for yeaaars.

Yup, I know what you're going through. I have braces, and I've had them for a little over a year. I was in pretty excruciating pain for the first week or so, but you'll get used to having braces eventually.

I'm just wondering, but did your orthodontist recommend using a Waterpik or something like that? That's what I use, and it's a lot better (not to mention less painful) than using special floss. :)

My advice is to focus on how nice your teeth will be when you're done! I had headgear and all sorts of terrible, painful appliances but people compliment me on my teeth a lot, so I'm grateful. My boyfriend's teeth are kind of uneven and he wishes he'd been able to have them...just focus on the outcome even though it seems far away :D

I had braces in high school for two years. Don't worry, in a month or so you'll forget they're even there! It hurts a bit after you get them tightened, true, but it goes away after a day or two. I remember the day I got them off, I felt like the most beautiful girl in the whole world. I know it stinks to get them, but getting them off is totally worth it!!

I have braces ^^

Tightenings aren't bad, they just change the wire and you feel some pain for a day or so, and that's every 6 - 8 weeks usually

Flossing isn't fun, but all I do is slip the string under the wire (unwaxed works best), and just floss normally, but then again I got four teeth pulled before getting my braces on so I have less teeth to floss haha

Almost everybody gets braces.

Sometimes you even see adults wearing braces. Straight and good teeth are one of the "essentials" to Americans at least, which is why you see so many orthodontists everywhere.

Invisilign sucks, don't get it.

At least they'll be on the bottom so they probably won't be to noticeable! ^^

This girl in my spanish class last year had braces on her bottom teeth only; i talked to her all the time but I didn't even notice till she showed me in the last week of school haha

Had mine for 2 years about 3 years ago. It isn't really a bad experience since the only time it was slightly uncomfortable was the day after each tightening. You kinda get used to it after awhile. So don't worry too much about it. :)

  • 1 month later...

I've never had them. I think maybe I should. Problem is, Mum hasn'ttaken us to the dentist fo Idon't know how long. I'm concerned about my front teeth, a part of it seems to stick out a bit more. When I was 11, I fell over and chipped one of my teeth, it may have been that that made it that way.
