Greetings ACers of Neopia! This is AA, reporting to you live from Shenkuu, where celebrations are in full swing after news of yesterday's results spread across the provinces. Prior to the Cup, when the Altador Cup Committee announced their revisions to the game of Yooyuball (specifically the elimination of fouls against goalies), many Shenkuu fans began stockpiling large reserves of fireworks, anticipating that the rules for the Cup's side games might be relaxed a bit as well. Unfortunately for them, the Committee eventually reversed their decision on goalkeeper fouls, and remained firm on their stance regarding the use of fireworks in Make Some Noise, so those stockpiles have remained largely unused - until now. In the span of only a few hours, it seems like the volume of fireworks released might be almost equal to the entire contents of the Imperial rocketry warehouses (although of course, the Imperial Guard isn't particularly keen on disclosing exactly how much firepower they have stowed away). At the very least, the light show on display today rivals that of some of Shenkuu's greatest historic festivals.

So what exactly is Shenkuu celebrating? Well, to figure that out we'll have to look back to Altador, where the Shenkuu Ninjas met with Team Meridell in a Yooyuball clash of epic proportions. Mirsha Grelinek and her team came out strong right from the starting whistle, bringing out some absolutely fantastic new strategies, never seen before in the game of Yooyuball (not exactly an unusual theme considering this year's changes, but completely unexpected given that we're already approaching the second round). "Wizard" Windelle and his heavy-hitting team were hard-pressed to keep up with Shenkuu's dynamic new gameplan, even having to improvise some new strategies of their own at a few points to avoid falling too far behind. The Knights managed to stay level in the end however, and Team Shenkuu (which has found its Yooyuball victories unfortunately sparse this year) finished the day with a Yooyuball draw against a team that has matched (and outmatched) many of this year's top-tier contenders, in addition to a win in Make Some Noise. While the overall result wasn't exactly a victory for the Ninjas, as Meridell took the remaining two side games to claim the overall win, it was still no small feat for the beleaguered team, and Shenkuu's fans aren't disappointed in the least to finally have a heavyweight match to cheer about.

"We were so close to a win, against a team less than two points away from tier one!" bubbled one Shenkuu fan excitedly. "If you've got your sights set on the Cup, well, you'd better watch out, because yellow will turn into green, draws into victories, and before you know it, Shenkuu will be at the top!"

Despite Shenkuu being almost a full eight points behind fourth place, those aspirations may not quite be as far-fetched as they seem, with four of this season's established first tier competitors shedding some points after being matched up against each other yesterday. There were plenty of reasons for Virtupets fans to cheer during their match, as the Robots managed an impressive Yooyuball victory over the Darigan Citadel Minions. In fact, there were so many reasons that the Robots' cheering overwhelmed their opponents' completely, breaking the Citadel's perfect Make Some Noise streak, and leaving Team Virtupets with another high-profile victory under their belts, although the Minions did manage to take the remaining side games.

"I've got to hand it to Layton and his team, that was without a doubt the toughest match we've played to date," acknowledged Virtupets Team Captain Keetra Deile afterwards, "I'd definitely peg them as a candidate for the Cup's first two-time champion. Well, heh, that's to say I would, if we weren't in their way. Anyway, I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank my team and all the fans who've been supporting us throughout the tournament. I'm proud of what we've accomplished together. Together - that's the only way we could have done it."

Meanwhile, top-ranked Team Tyrannia ended up slipping down the leaderboard a bit, after being handed a resounding Yooyuball defeat by fifth-ranked (and still fifth-ranked) Team Maraqua. The Maraquan squad once again showed the full extent of their formidable defensive array on the field, forming a block that even Tyrannia's exceedingly aggressive gameplan couldn't break - not even once. The Fossils weren't in any mood to concede more than the Yooyuball game however, taking Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, and drawing even in Make Some Noise.

"We were first out of eighteen, and now we're second out of eighteen," remarked a Team Tyrannia supporter with a shrug. "You might be able to get away with an occasional victory, but we're already at the top, and no matter what you do you can't make us leave. The time is coming! Tyrannia are champions!"

With Tyrannia dropping to second place in the standings, it was none other than Team Kreludor that leapfrogged their way to the top of the list, putting a decisive finish on the much anticipated rematch of last year's finals. The Kreludor Moons stayed well ahead of their old rivals on all fronts, beating the defending champions from the Lost Desert with an across-the-board sweep. While the loss places the Mummies firmly in the underdog groups for the moment, many optimistic fans (and analysts) believe that underdog status is the perfect position from which the Lost Desert could make its comeback later in the season.

Altador, Faerieland, Kiko Lake, and Moltara, four teams that are no strangers to the underdog tiers themselves, kept up their lively tournament play throughout day eleven, frequently running circles around their opponents on the Yooyuball pitch (although not enough to edge ahead with a victory), and unleashing numerous spirited counterattacks on the side game front. Mystery Island managed to take three of the day's games from Moltara, but found the enthusiastic Moltarans impossible to outdo in Make Some Noise. Terror Mountain and Roo Island were also denied sweeps, losing Slushie Slinger to Team Altador and Team Faerieland respectively. The Kiko Lakers, never afraid to one-up their opposition given the slightest opportunity, also outperformed the Haunted Woods at Slushie Slinger, and topped off their tally with a draw in Shootout Showdown.

Over on the other side of the Colosseum, Team Krawk Island quickly gained the upper hand against the Brightvale Wizards, scoring victories in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown. Nevertheless, the Wizards were in good spirits throughout most of the match, and served up enough of those delicious slushies to end the day with a side game win.

Looking at the day ahead, the match between the Tyrannian Fossils and Darigan Citadel Minions immediately stands out, as both teams are tier one contenders and will, naturally, bring out their absolute best against their opponents. Team Meridell will also be out to uphold their reputation as a solid match for any top team in Yooyuball, getting ready to take on fledgeling powerhouse Team Virtupets. There's also one more match which might not be getting much attention from most, but is unlikely to be any less interesting: Team Maraqua and Team Kiko Lake will be battling it out today. It's become almost something of a tradition for the Kikos to pull off a spectacular upset against their sea-dwelling cousins each season, so we'll be on the lookout to see what they come up with this year.

That's all for this report. Best of luck out there! This is AA, reporting from Shenkuu, signing off.

Meh, at least it wasn't a total wipeout.

But who cares?! Moltara finally gets to face my second-favorite team, Lost Desert! The two hottest teams finally get to duke it out!

Better watch out, because this summer is about to get hotter!cool02.gif

Exactly my feelings, haha! Well, except the total wipeout thing. Kreludor totally deserves the win though, they just exude coolness. But now it's all about being hot! Those Fire yooyus are going to be burning holes in that stadium very soon.
