Day ten of the Altador Cup has just come to a close, and we're now almost three quarters of the way through the tournament's first round. Yesterday saw its fair share of decisive victories, with most matches going as expected (and many analysts finally able to take a breather).

There was one match-up that analysts definitely couldn't agree on however: Darigan Citadel versus Terror Mountain. Both of these teams are powerhouses in this year's competition, with Terror Mountain being a relative newbie in the powerhouse scene, and Darigan Citadel being an established championship veteran. The match has been described on a number of occasions as a 'David versus Goliath' battle - in this case however, it was Goliath that emerged triumphant. After a long day on the Yooyuball field, full of agonisingly close goals, saves, and general fantastic play from both teams, neither contestant was able to eke out a lead. Slushie service for both teams also progressed at an equal pace, leaving the match to be decided by the Citadel's dominance in Make Some Noise, and their superb penalty shootout skills.

Not only did the Citadel end the day with the overall victory, but they also managed to maintain their perfect winning streak in Make Some Noise, standing at ten wins, no draws, and no losses - while they haven't quite matched Terror Mountain's spectacular 36-0-2 Shootout Showdown performance from last year, the Minions definitely have the best streak (and only perfect winning streak) of any team this year, a feat that grows more impressive with every passing day.

Regardless, deafening as they were, not even the Citadel's most thunderous Make Some Noise champions could match the explosive cheer that went up from Haunted Woods fans when today's results were announced. The Zombies are celebrating their second sweep of the season, and renewed hopes of making their way to the first tier as they gradually close the gap between themselves and other tier one contenders. Despite being unable to claim a single win yesterday, most Lost Desert fans are still optimistic, with Leera Heggle remaining characteristically unfazed.

"It's not called a tournament for nothing!" the Team Captain bellowed, concluding a brief press conference after the match. "Every team in the Cup is made up of Neopia's top players. We can't afford to let our guard down, even for a moment. So, let's play some Yooyuball!"

"Let's play some Yooyuball" - those words were echoed by Moltaran Team Captain Aldric Beign after his team also suffered a sweep at the hands of Team Kreludor. "If we all stopped trying just because we had trouble achieving our goals, then there wouldn't be any such thing as a sport, and Neopia wouldn't be where it was today. So that's what we have to do: no matter how many times we fall, we need to get back up, get out there, and keep striving for ourselves, our team, and all the people behind us. Let's play some Yooyuball!"

Brightvale Team Captain "Squeaky" Tressif was no less enthusiastic in his words to the public after the Wizards were hit with yet another sweep by Team Tyrannia. "Greatness is ninety-nine percent perspiration," the Lupe declared, citing the motto of Brightvale's renowned magical academy. "It's also zero point one percent inspiration, zero point four percent skill, and zero point five percent absolutely delicious slushies. I'll take the slushies, but we need to focus on that ninety-nine percent."

After getting nudged down the leaderboard during day nine's tough match against Team Virtupets, Team Maraqua managed to edge up slightly with a near sweep of the Mystery Island Natives. Fearsome in their Yooyuball offence as always, Mystery Island steamed ahead with immediate ball control time after time, but Maraqua's defence was simply too tightly meshed for the Natives to break. With Maraquan defender Lamelle Turow backing up scorer Elon Hughlis in much the same manner as Dorina Hals did last year, the Maraquan squad was able to drive home enough goals to stay ahead, although Mystery Island did manage to stay even in Shootout Showdown. Their team's excellent performance in Yooyuball energised Maraqua's fans however, and they were able to end the match with Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise securely under their belts.

It was offence versus flexibility in the match between Meridell's Knights and the Krawk Island Pirates, as wizened Meridell Team Captain "Wizard" Windelle and his squad brought out the Knights' rarely seen arsenal of 'siege mode' tactics. Level-headed captain Garven Hale was able to keep the Pirates a step ahead however, and while the Pirates weren't able to open any scoring opportunities, they managed to hold the line against a team known for battering past even the toughest of the Cup's powerhouses, leaving Yooyuball at a draw. Elsewhere on the pitch, Meridell did manage a victory in Slushie Slinger, but with Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown under their belts, Krawk Island took the overall win.

Meanwhile, Teams Faerieland and Altador worked hard to maintain their exceptional Slushie Slinger records - not even Team Virtupets (playing Faerieland), nor the Shenkuu Ninjas (up against Altador), were able to complete their sweeps against the underdog teams, as both the Suns and the Faeries came away with a win in Slushie Slinger.

Roo Island had an even harder time battling the indomitable Kiko Lake, as the Kikos conceded Yooyuball, but denied the Roos Make Some Noise and scooted ahead with wins in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown. "They're a great team," admitted Roo Island Team Captain Lilo Blumario, "even if you read them correctly, you're gonna have a hard time. Underestimate them, and you'll sorely regret it. They may not be first-tier yet, but then neither are we right now, and there's not a team in the Cup that doesn't respect them."

Well, we're moving on to day eleven now, and there's quite an exciting line up of top-tier matches for today. Darigan Citadel and Maraqua, two well-established powerhouses, face off against fledgelings Virtupets and Tyrannia respectively - the outcome of these matches could very well whittle down the candidates for the top four this year, although at this stage no team is likely to be ruled out completely.

And of course, who can forget that classic finals rematch we've been waiting for since AC V? Defending champions Lost Desert will be duking it out with with second-placed (both last year and presently) Team Kreludor. While most analysts believe the projected results are fairly unambiguous, well, it's a finals rematch - definitely not one to miss.

That's all for today. This is AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets, signing off. Good luck, and have fun out there!

Woooo, Kreludor! Sadly, Lost Desert isn't as fierce as they were last year, so I'm not sure the match will be as heated. Then again, it's best not to underestimate those sandy players ( :sad01_anim: what a horrid pun, haha).

Well, I do always say that whichever team the reports are biased for/against depends on the team of the beholder.

That said, the focus of the reports generally tends to be on the 'interesting' matches, and that's quite a subjective issue. Rest assured, we do put a lot of effort into making sure teams have a fair shot at making headlines. ;)

And yet again, the most optimistic team captain strikes again... I aspire to him.

"Anything that isn't constantly challenged grows weak over time." <-- Best quote to fit this.wink2.gif

All right then, let's play some Yooyuball against Mystery Island!

Honestly, I really beleived we were going to be swept yesterday. They were just too small and organized for me to be comfortable.

And now we have VP... -_-

Oh btw I beat my record fyr YYB marathons and made one that got over 15k yesterday. :D

Anyway, THANK YOU AA FOR FINALLY PUTTING US IN THE HEADLINES! :P (In a positive way)

i have finally figured out the question y tyrannia is doing well and krawk isnt

krawk did well while they had a krawk (par winners curse) and when dasher went goodbye and another krawk came into tyrannia evry krawk island supporter that supported KI bcease they had a krawk then switched to tyrannia becoz they have a krawk

so if this is true then krawk=sucsses
