Possible BC entry

Okay, obviously I'll have to shrink it in order for this to work as a BC entry, but what do you guys think? Will it even be accepted? And if it does any guesses on how well I'll do? Also, I'm thinking of submitting Reflections into the art gallery. I've never made it in before but I can hope right?

*giggle* Girl? Tae's a guy. *giggle* And it looks a little more "dirty" when he's lying on his stomach, and he's supposed to be lookign behind him. =3 But I do appreciate the comments.

 

BTW: That "bra" is actually a tube top made of bone that protects his heart and lungs. He's got bone-like material on his pants as well to protect his knees. He's an assassin.

That's fine, not many people know Tae. I haven't been able to get TNT to accept any of his bc entries before. Even ones that are more "neopets" then this one. It's driving me nuts.

Yeah, he's my anthro kougra _Taelsra_. I can't draw cats so he's purely anthro. xD He's an assassin so his outfit is light and easy to move in while protecting his vitals. Like his heart and lungs, and keeping his knees safe. =3 His design was originally for a girl, which was a lot less covering (my bad) but when I got wrongly frozen a while back, a friend gave to me Tae, a male, so I adjusted the outfit for a boy.

Its decent art, but not for the BC - I couldn't even tell it was supposed to be a Kougra until you posted thats what your pet was xD Its in the BC rules: they don't accept purely anthro artwork. It has to look like whatever species your pet is, and not more human than animal.

 

The same is true for your other picture, since the Art Gallery has very similar rules regarding anthro work.

I like your line art, especially around the face. But I have to agree that for a Neopets Beauty Contest, it probably won't get accepted. Although you can totally use your Art Skillz (Patent Pending) to get into the BC. :)

I suggest that if you submit any art to Neopets, really make sure you have the pet details down just right. Example: Kougras have rounded ears, (err, well except Halloween Kougras) and a small muzzle. Muzzles are hard to draw just right, but practicing is fun. <3

*giggle* Then I guess I'm stuck with entering my draiks (to-be) into the BC. Because I royally can't draw cats. I can't even draw kougras. Occasionally I have a stroke of luck and get a good cat drawing but it's not often. *shot*

I like the lineart for sure, although it could be cleaner. I understand how hard it is to get nice clean lines digitally so xD.

 

From past experiences, for both BC and Art Gallery, your art usually needs to be more... Neopet looking instead of Anthro. (Unless they changed that in the past year or so...) And yes, you do need to show most of the characteristics of the Neopet before you can be considered. I'd suggest submitting non-anthro works to increase your chances :).

 

That aside, I'm not a huge fan of the textured top... It looks out of place since the texture gives it a lot 'harder' a feel than the rest of the colouring of your pet. Do you draw using a mouse? Just curious xD. Because if not, you can try varying the thickness of your lines and change the pressure of your shading :). If not, try toying with the pen tool to get the different line thickness for your lineart :D.

 

I do like his anatomy though! And damn, I can't draw fingers for my life so kudos to being able to draw more than decent hands and fingers xD.

 

If you do wish to do a more 'Neopets' version, do post it up! :)

Maybe you could adopt some random pet from the pound and draw it? A lenny or something probably wouldn't be too hard. How are you at drawing birds? ;)

@ Celticheavens: Yeah, stroke of luck on the hand thing, normally I stink at hands. As for how I draw, I draw by hand and use a tablet in Photoshop CS5, so my lineart is actually cleaner then it used to be when I was using Photoshop 7. xD Also the top is supposed to be bone, so I was trying to make it look harder then him. If someone could tell me how to make the top look more like bone that'd be great! *fails at that*

 

@ Cranberrybellbottom: Course! I try to keep up to date on all the responces I get. I'm not evil, despite my name. XD *shot* Also, I'm worse at birds then I am at cats. *sweatdrop* I'm a self-taught artist so all my work is basically trial and error. Sometimes I have bursts of skill, sometimes I fail epically.

I know it has been quite a while now, but I have another suggestion. ;)

 

The image in your sig looks almost like a techo or a chomby (the nose looks kind of reptilian... do you see it?). If you can draw a picture just like it, shorten the arms a bit, and add a tail sticking up, I think it would look quite a bit like a techno or chomby. :)

 

You could probably do a hissi with a face like that too. Couldn't be too hard to draw a snakey thing. hehe

ALso, I know you can do Shoyru's well...and gelerts and lupes you're good with too, so try entering Akagarai instead?

Oh! And mishi? If you draw rib lines or something on the bone plate....then it'll look like bone, lets face it, there is NO such thing as a sold bone case, so if he used ribs or something...and glued 'em together? I can show ya what I mean next time we hang out.

Well, I certainly meant no offense. When I think of draiks, I think of wings, big ears, and a tail. Without the wings in particular, I wouldn't have guessed a draik. ;)

 

Though to be honest, a draik is reptilian as well. I just didn't think of it. I do hope I didn't upset you, as I like your work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that in the BC at least, you can draw your Neopet whatever color you would like, as long as it remains in the correct species category. :)
