Creating Apps

Recommended Posts

So I have some great ideas for some apps, but have no programming knowledge whatsoever. I was wondering if anyone has made an app for the itunes store or if anyone was interested in that or if someone knows how to and would be willing to help (and therefore share profits too!)

I've been doing some cursory net searches, but havent founda anything particularly helpful, other than, at the minimun I'd have to subscribe to apples developer program thing.

App creation is very tricky. Apple makes it VERY easy to develop them for the itunes store, but you must pay $100 a year or something like that. It's crazy. Apple gives you easy software with your developer membership that pretty much cuts the work in half.

The Android Store, however, is completely open source and is open for ANYONE to develop an app.

Pay a price for less programming, or more programming for a cheaper price? It's a tough decision.

As for programming I'm sure for at least the Android store you would need CSS, PHP, and probably some more knowledge. The apple store would probably let you get away with creating an app while only knowing a bit of programming (Depending on the App. A game would take TONS regardless. ex. Angry Birds).

Yea I saw the apple developer program thing. Its 99/year and i've seen various app creation programs, but some of the things i have in mind are complicated. Plus i have absolutely no idea about programming. I'm programming stupid, i only know what it is and the name of it :P

I'm going to have to contradict Noog a little and point out a delightful little tool for creating fairly simple Android apps with little to no programming knowledge required.

Meet the Android App Inventor. :D

Yeah theo, but I don't think that would help you at all if you were creating a game :P Well, a GOOD game :P

Eh, I'd argue that Apple's tools wouldn't help much there either. ;) Especially compared to the FOSS libraries for Android available out there.

But of course, I should defer to a more experienced dev. xD

I didn't say that apple's dev tools would help you create a good game, I mentioned that it would be a challenge. Most of the good games in the App Store are big developers that plan on it being a source of income.

Ah, yes, now that I re-read your earlier posts, I see that you were talking about game development. xD Interestingly enough, developing games tends to allow you to be a lot looser with good development and maintainability practices - game developers have more leeway to use hacks, messy code, and workarounds, as well as maximising use of external libraries.

But this is getting off-topic. :P

Hey guys, sorry to bump an old thread.

Anyway, I'm a mobile developer, and if you still have some ideas, I'd love you to share them with me. Could you PM me?

Also, here is the thread of the app I'm currently making, which features content from TDN. http://www.tdnforums.com/index.php?/topic/26908-androidiphone-app-neopets-dailies/page__mode__show

Don't forget to read the key features and take a look at the screenshots :D

Thanks :D
