jumpingbeans Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I was just wondering, how can the search engines(Yahoo, Goggle and MSN/Bing) be watching the forums? It's really creepy looking down and seeing Google's on the same page as me.
CAV of Gang Green Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Serch engines are looking at TDN because they are scanning and recording information, so when you type it into a serch engine, it'll be found. To show you how it works, Let me Google that for you. NOTE: just wait a little bit. Look at the top result. Sure it isn't TDN, but it's a very good example on how Google recorded the information from our site, and used it so we can find our site when we serch the exact quote.
jumpingbeans Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 I (almost) get it now...though it's still weird.
antiaircraft Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Just to add a little more to CAV's answer: when a search engine like Google scans information from a page, it has to load the page just like your web browser does when you view it. Forum software (like IPB, which powers TDNF) can be configured to recognise these search engines when they load pages and display them explicitly in the user list (otherwise they'd just show up as guests).
livvy Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Is there a reason we want them to be shown as other than guests?
jumpingbeans Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 I just found it odd that Google was in the same topic as me.
Superfly Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Is there a reason we want them to be shown as other than guests? Mostly to just creep everyone out. Google is watching.
