Atta
I've decided I want to learn to draw my Neopets, so I can enter them into the Beauty Contest :D It sounded like it would be fun to do... But... I really, really, really can't draw anything :crying: Everything I try comes out nothing like what I want it to... That's my Moehog Pollyatta, and her Spyder. I actually like this one, But Her head is way too big! I haven't finished this one yet, It's still in it's 'Sketch' stage... It's my Gelert Me_e. That thing Tied to his hand is actually his Neddler, But it looks nothing like him... Another sketch, and this time It's Icacles my Chia. Man... I didn't know drawing a Chia would be so hard! They look so simple, but it's impossible to draw them. If you haven't noticed, I like drawing their petpets with them. Another sketch, and it's autery my Yurble. His name starts with a lower-case letter... I hate this picture... --- Do you have any tips for me that could help me improve?
Mouseykins
What are you using to draw? A pencil and paper or a program? Your drawings are a nice start and better than what I can draw! What I have done is found an image of my pet and traced it in photoshop and coloured it in and it works. I would still like to draw my pets but right now I don't have the time to go through the drawing guides on neopets. I would say just keep practicing and have fun! If you wold like to see the little picture I created just go to my lookup
livvy
I'm guessing the program is Paint? In that case, that's one thing you'll have to improve before you go to the BC. Paint is a fun program, but there are much better programs out there for drawing and coloring. Photoshop, GIMP, I'm-sure-a-real-artist-can-name-some-better-ones... It's a nice start though. I expect to see you in the BC some day. :)
Noog
You should download the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It is 100% free, and there are plenty of tutorials for it. Some good tutorials for coloring in GIMP are on DeviantArt. I actually prefer the GIMP to Photoshop in most situations. It's awesome. Atta
I don't have a working scanner, so... I use MsPaint, It's all I have. :laughingsmiley: I'm downloading GIMP right now, but.... I'm not allowed on deviantART so... I don't know if I'll be able to look up those Tutorials...
Luciana
I don't like Gimp only because it moves too slowly for me. It's a little complicated, since it's basically a lighter version of Photoshop. But idk. maybe it'll work well for you. If you wanna try, there is another free program you could try. OpenCanvas 1.1 is the latest free version of Oc, and I think it's really good. It's a very light and simple program to get used to. Especially if you're new to drawing digitally. Anyway, I think your sketches are really nice so far. Since you seem to have trouble drawing their petpets, may I suggest drawing them a little bigger? Just doubling the sizes of them might help you put more detail in and make them more recognizable. Either way, your drawings are quite nice for your age. I would love to see them colored! Um. When you decide which program you're going to use, I can find some tutorials for you, if you want. Since you can't go on Deviantart.
Atta
Gimp is hard :sad02: Thank you Luciana! I downloaded OpenCanvas, and I really like it. It's hard to use, but. It's so much better than MsPaint! That's a picture of my Gelert I drew using OpenCanvas! It looks so much better than any of the pictures I have ever drawn. It took me HOURS to draw though... That's the image I used as a 'Reference' But... My Gelert ended up looking nothing like that.. Edited July 12, 2010 by Atta
Quark
I see a lot of improvement with the use of Open Canvas. :) Using references is a really good idea if you want to improve. A lot of times in your head something looks right but once you look at a picture you see that it's different. (For example, hands are notorious for being the bane of many an artist. A simple pose like a thumbs up may look in your head one way, but once you look a picture you notice the detail, the folds in the skin and the position of the fingers.) Keep is up and always have fun! (That's the most important part.)
Luciana
Your drawings are looking better already! And great idea looking at references! The gelerts face is drawn very well. Were you trying to draw the exact same as the reference? The face looks very similar, and I see some similarities between the body of your gelert and the body of the dog in the photo. Keep on drawing and copy from references and really try to look. Similar to what Quark said, Try not to draw things like how you think they should look like, but how you actually really see them. As an example, the front of your gelert (arm and chest) is a little short compared to the picture. So that might be something you could be a bit more cautious about in your next drawing. Try not too spend forever trying to fix one drawing. You will learn a lot more from drawing different pictures and looking at many references. You'll start to notice a ton of things you've never seen before and before you know it, you'll be so surprised with all the improvement you've made!! I can tell you are a fast learner. :) Also have fun! (That's the most important part.) Quoting this, because it's very important!!
Grove
Always take your time sketching, it can really save you time when you're already in the later parts of your drawing process! There's a great improvement with your latest picture! References really help. There are a lot of guides and tutorials in the internet, even some video processes, to learn from. Look st other artists' pictures and ask yourself "What do I like so much about this picture?" And then try to integrate that thing you like into your style. If it doesn't work out, well, keep experimenting! Art is a whole lot of fun when you're looking for something new every time.

Quark
My mum's giving me one of her Tablets :laughingsmiley: As long as I take good care of it she says I can use it whenever I want... Sweet! Don't forget to still sketch with traditional media as well. Use both and you'll be cranking out some awesome drawings. :) (I get a tablet soon too! I commence tablet party now!) Luciana
Awesome! Tablets take a little while to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, drawing on the computer will be so much more comfortable! :-)
