Welcome back everybody, it's time to review yet another day's worth of Altador Cup matches, and it seems the tournament has unleashed a fresh string of surprises on us unsuspecting observers with the results of yesterday's matches.

First up, the Terror Mountain Chillers met the rough and ready squad from Kiko Lake in what's sure to be remembered as one of this year's more epic underdog clashes. Just about everybody was expecting the Kiko Lakers to take Yooyuball by storm, and we all knew that the Chillers would almost certainly continue their as-yet unchallenged Shootout Showdown victory streak, so at first glance it seemed that the remaining side games would be the focus of the contest. As it turned out however, we were very wrong!

Maintaining a sharp focus on getting the Yooyu into the Kikos' goal as many times as physically possible, Prytariel and Co. manoeuvred through an impressive spiral of innovative offensive strategies, running circles around their opponents while their supporters cheered them on and slurped their way through a record-breaking quantity of slushies. The Chillers soared in their home sport, Shootout Showdown, and walked away with a truly terrific clean sweep, leaving behind an impressive wall of analysts with 'OMG' expressions frozen on their faces. It seems that the Chillers will definitely be hanging onto their hard-fought title as the masters of the Altador Cup upset.

Despite the circumstances, Team Kiko Lake didn't miss a beat - true to form, they were warmed up for their next match against Team Virtupets long before the results were even announced.

Speaking of Virtupets, the Robots had another one of their rougher days in yesterday's match-up with Krawk Island. The Pirates haven't been at their best this season, but they've flexed enough muscle to show that they're far from pushovers, and they demonstrated that again by swashbucklin' their way to a total victory over the Robots. Keetra Deile, captain and primary scorer of Team Virtupets, acknowledged that her team was failing to live up to the expectations they had set with their exceptional performance throughout early round one, but was unable to comment further when the press conference was interrupted by an amateur journalist raving enthusiastically about space pirates.

The Suns were paired with the Desert Marauders, a team which has already been pegged as a likely candidate for the top of the podium come the finals, while the Faeries were up against Team Shenkuu, who have been rapidly re-establishing their reputation as a force to be reckoned with. Despite facing the daunting task of playing against two of the toughest contenders on the leaderboard this year, both underdog teams rallied brilliantly, with Faerieland scooping up a Shootout Showdown victory and the Altador Suns scraping a draw in Slushie Slinger. They may have lost overall, but there's hope yet for these intrepid inhabitants of group four.

For Team Moltara, on the other hand, hope seems to be slipping away fast, as Team Meridell handed them yet another clean sweep. If the Magmas don't get their act together fast, it seems unlikely that they'll be able to make it out of the last tier for a while yet.

The Tyrannian Fossils were in for a nasty surprise when the outcome of their match against Roo Island was released. The tenacious Tyrannian side gamers were bested in all but Make Some Noise, allowing the Roos to edge even closer to tier one in the standings. Yesterday marked the Fossils' first Slushie Slinger defeat in a long time, but despite that hammering their morale remains high, at least if you assume it to be proportional to their noise level.

The Darigan Citadel continued its ferocious comeback against Team Kreludor, taking the Moons down in Yooyuball and two side games. The Moons managed to glide ahead in Shootout Showdown, but that's a far cry from the strength they showed early in the tournament. Whether they're feeling the effects of fatigue a little early or setting themselves up for one of their dangerously subtle strategies has yet to be seen.

The Mystery Island Natives don't seem to have been able to maintain the prodigious Yooyuball gameplay we saw in their victory over the Lost Desert, as Team Haunted Woods slid easily ahead of them on the scoreboard. The Zombies also outslung the Natives at the slushie stands, while both teams were fairly equal in their noise making and penalty shootouts. Both teams are still perilously close to group four, but if the analysts are to be believed, the Zombies' recent trends seem to indicate that they won't be staying there for long.

The Mermaids finally seem to be drawing closer to achieving their fabled 'Piranha Mode', knocking Team Brightvale further down the standings with victories in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown. Despite losing Make Some Noise yesterday and failing to achieve a sweep over Faerieland the day before, Team Maraqua now sits in fifth place on the leaderboard, and may just be living up to the group one contender status everyone's been expecting of them.

Their status will be sorely tested today however, as they'll be taking on Kreludor, a team which is undoubtedly a little sour from yesterday's loss and ready to hit back. Roo Island, currently ranked sixth, will also be looking to prove that they have a chance in tier one, although the Lost Desert Marauders are unlikely to give them much leeway. The Brightvale Wizards, looking to halt their slide down from the top tier, appear to be playing extra hard for a major victory today, but they're up against Mystery Island, who are just as eager to push their way up from the bottom.

All in all, let's just say that the surprises are far from over.

This is AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets, signing off. Good luck!
