I'm in Shenkuu now, where celebration is in the air as the Ninjas celebrate their first major victory of the season - and boy, does Shenkuu know how to celebrate! There are parties in the streets, an assortment of extra-strong beverages, and a number of major merchant guilds are even providing their goods at a discount (with the standard 'for a limited time only' disclaimer, of course). Yesterday's narrow Yooyuball win edged the match in Shenkuu's favour, despite a series of losses to their high-ranked opponents, Team Kreludor, in the side games. While it's not exactly a decisive result, it's an important victory for Shenkuu nevertheless, and a general morale booster all around for the Ninjas.

Analyst opinions on the result vary widely, ranging from "Shenkuu is pulling away from their slow start" to "I don't think we can have much confidence in this team at this point in time" to "THEM NINJAS WUZ LIEK HIIYAAAAA!" (sic). A spokesman for Team Kreludor shrugged off the loss, saying, "We were a little tired after yesterday [the Moons played against Team Lost Desert yesterday], and we let our guard down in Yooyuball. It's perfectly normal to have good days and bad days, and I really don't see why we have to make a fuss out of it."

In another surprise outcome, Team Meridell crushed the Virtupets Robots in a near sweep, with a draw in Make Some Noise leaving the only dent in their armour for the day. Both the Robots and the Knights have had strong starts this year, and their sights are set firmly on a tier one position come the finals - in fact, it seems that both teams are already eyeing each other up for their next rematch.

Both Brightvale and the Mermaids also managed to achieve near sweeps yesterday. While they were no match for the Wizards in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, or Make Some Noise, the Faeries fought valiantly in Shootout Showdown and managed to pull ahead. The Kiko Lakers, however, only managed to pull even with Team Maraqua in Slushie Slinger, although that didn't stop them from charging confidently into their next match against Team Kreludor as soon as the clock ticked over midnight.

Teams Altador and Moltara suffered clean sweeps at the hands of Roo Island and the Lost Desert respectively, while the Terror Mountain Chillers kept up their perfect Shootout Showdown streak with a win against the Haunted Woods, and also managed a draw in Make Some Noise. However, the Zombies still managed to take that match with wins in the other two games.

The Mystery Island Natives and Team Krawk Island had an exhausting twenty four hours in their match, with Yooyus and slushies flying helter-skelter through an enormous din. In the end, Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger were drawn, while the Natives fell behind in the noise making and shootouts, leaving the victory to the Pirates.

Our last match for the day was a bit cleaner cut, with the Citadel's Yooyuball dominance deciding the match early on. Team Tyrannia fought back in their usual hard-hitting side game style, but at the end of the day they were only able to take Slushie Slinger, drawing even in the remaining games.

Now, it's the 5th of June and more than half of round one is already behind us. The matches in the central part of the tournament, particularly the first part of round two, tend to be where the leaderboard really separates out, and where we see teams either starting to shine or succumbing to fatigue. So as we move forward, each day's results will be more and more critical, especially for the slow starting teams that are still hoping to make it to group one (also known as Maraqua and Shenkuu).

The Mermaids are up against their old enemies from Krawk Island today, while the Ninjas take on the 3rd ranked Brightvale Wizards. We've seen glimpses of both of these teams in top form this year, but they have yet to truly impress, so the pressure is on for them to start to perform and perform consistently.

Well, I suppose you're all itching to get back to the playing field, so I'll wrap things up for today. This is AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets from Shenkuu, signing off. Good luck!

Great, now I have sand in my mouth *cough*, eyes, and even in my new shoes (not cool, LD).

Oh well. Congrats to Lost Desert. I had a wonderful experience going against my old team. I guess you really "CAN'T beat the heat!" b)

Isn't the Moltara team practically made of fire...?

I was kinda referring to LD, but yeah, that works too.

P.S. Has anyone seen the TV commercial for the Altador Cup? It looks AMAZING!
