iPad most over-ratted thing since...

Lols, I suppose a lot of companies start off that way. And designers, musicians, anything really. We, as a society I mean, tend to like whatever's popular so it's a good marketing strategy.

What's sad about Apple doing it is that they're already popular....so they really don't need to launch something for the sake of it. They should develop something that deserves the popularity it's bound to get.

True. I don't really have much experience with Apple. All I have is my iPod, which I think is worth all the hype. Otherwise, the only time I've ever used Apple, was back when I was in grade school, and my school district had a deal with Apple, so that's what all the computers were.

I don't know =/ Which iPod do you have? IMO, iPods are really just mp3s made sleeker. Well iPod Shuffles and Nanos definitely are. I supposed iPod Touch is good, but yeah, it really wasn't something for people to get this excited about.

I've never really liked Apple. ;3

I have a 16GB Nano. I originally bought a different mp3, because my sister said iPods were over-rated. The one I got was Creative. It had a radio tuner, the screen, shuffle... etc. But it was only 1GB. I got tired of having to totally re-do it, when I wanted to add something new. So I bought the 16GB Nano and I love it. It's much much easier to navigate, I have plenty of storage space. I love the features it has. So for me, it's perfect and much better than any other mp3 players I've had experience with.

iPods are probably all I'll ever get from Apple. I won't do either computers, or their iPhone.

Well at the time iPods came out, the max size was 4BG (or was it 2GB?) so it wasn't much better than MP3, and there's better brands than creative ;p

And now, MP3s have gotten bigger and better too, so I'd say that it's pretty even....

iPhone I can tolerate, I'm in the process of getting a cell and it's actually one of the ones I'm considering ;3

I trusted my sister's judgement on the Creative one. (Mistake # 1 lol) She liked it for a couple reasons. One, it ran on AAA batteries, so if you went on a road/plane trip, you didn't have to worry about the battery dying. And two, the gym she works out at, broadcasts the sound for the TVs, on a radio frequency, so she wanted the AM/FM tuner. So I went with it... and it drove me crazy.

My husband swears by his iPod too, even though he won't go near anything else by Apple. And his was a previous generation to mine. I think his is 4GB. His is full and he has tons of stuff that wouldn't fit. Of my 16GB, I think I've used around 3GB. :laughingsmiley:

I had a friend a few years ago, that had the iPhone. He had it just crash on him a couple times, and he lost everything. But it depends I guess. A lot of people love them. I just wouldn't use the features enough. The main feature I need, is a full keyboard, which I have with my LG Envy.

Haha, I'm an only child so iunno bout siblings, but I know my friends have given faulty advice many times ;3 Oh well, at least it's amusing.

Lols, perhaps you guys can trade? xP (btw, do you happen to listen to french music? =/)

Oh Envy's good, but for me, I don't really need a full keyboard since I don't really text people. I'm a very "verbose" person, to put it nicely, and texting just never appealed to me. Basically, all I really want is a camera and camcorder which almost everyone phone has...so hard to make choice b)

Lucky you. Want a sister? I have a spare. :laughingsmiley:

He'd love that... but no way. Mine is purple, his is black. But if not sooner, I'll probably get him a 16GB for his birthday this year.

I prefer texting. For whatever reason, I hate talking on the phone. I usually only call someone if I need to talk about something that wouldn't fit in 1 or 2 texts.

LOL, I'm not sure your sister would appreciate that ;p

Ah colours, well you could always get covers right? Not only for appearance but it really does protect the iPod which is super useful for someone like me. I'm dropped mine probably over 20 times since I got it and I'm so thankful for the covering. :laughingsmiley:

I love talking! I call people to tell them I'm going to their house lols. The convos go:

Me: Hey ___! I'll come over in 5?

Friend: K!

Me: KK! Toodles~

Friend: Cya.

:king:

Definitely for covers. I have a clear one for my iPod so I can see the purple, but it's entirely protected. The only thing not covered, is the little dial... even the screen has a hard cover.

Yeah, it's always good idea to protect portable devices since they get bumped around a lot.

For me though, my iPod was blue, but then the earphones broke and I got pink ones for some odd reason...And my solution was to get a pink cover. :D

And there's always those covers with designs on them, which are pretty cute.

Oh hey, and bringing us back on topic (sorta), another bad thing about the iPad is that the only protective gear you'll get is the bag...which is slightly pointless because it'll just feel like you're carrying around a laptop all over again.

Well...almost no portable electronic that you buy today comes with a case that a consumer would consider sufficient, so I don't think that that's a fair judgement or whatever. I don't know that much about the iPad, other than that it's a large iPhone basically though. I don't know.

It's a large iPod Touch to be precise

Yes. Silly silly apple. If they saw this forum, they would mend their ways. Hopefully. :)

The sad thing is, there are millions (ok I exaggerated a little, but not by much) of forums out there that are saying the same things about iPad. However, Apple's just turning a blind eye and being optimistic about it I guess.

@Domino I agree that protective casing isn't a company's priority, but for the iPad, being the size that it is, it's not something you can carry around in your pocket. Protective casing is quite essential to it really.

Yeah...but will it really end up making them money?

So far, it seems that there is a lot of hype about it but then everyone I've ever talked to seems to hate it...which is just a little contradictory.

Not sure if this is true, but I think Apple is probably creating hype about it themselves while the consumers (us) know better than to fall for it. Hopefully.

Heck yes it will make them money. The iPads that were released this past week didn't even have 3G capabilities & a lot of stores sold out. Today Apple released a statement that said they sold 300K at midnight of release (they mentioned that was 30k more than when the iphone was released) and had over 1 million aps downloaded, plus over 250k books were purchased too. I imagine those numbers will climb even more when the 3G ones are released in the upcoming weeks.

Apple knows what the consumer wants so they'll release a bunch of completely useless versions, before including all the requested features, making a good chunk of change along the way.

I read that they predict 7.5 million iPads will be sold in 2010 and it will triple by 2012. KACHING!

I'm sick of all the iPad hate. Really, really sick of it. It started from day one and hasn't stopped. Either it's "wah wah wah it's just a big iPod that can't fit in your pocket" or "he he he the namey, it's dirty". If you don't like it then don't buy it, and just get over it. I'm not an iPad owner and probably never will be, but that doesn't mean I have to insult it. Either you like it or you don't, and no one is going to convince anyone otherwise, and it's not their job to unless they're an Apple salesperson. But it really doesn't seem like you know much about the iPad. You're saying it's only revolutionary because it's by Apple, and you don't really give any good argument against it. I saw the video of Steve Jobs presentation of it, and while it might not be anything groundbreaking it doesn't mean it's worthless. And I haven't heard anyone saying the iPad is revolutionary or groundbreaking, so no, I don't think it's overrated.

ipad-vs-stone.jpg

That pretty much sums up the ipad.

I think they are meant to be "reader"... but I prefer books made of paper. I need to see how many pages are left in my ubber good book, not just that I'm on page 435 of 500. I need to see it. This is just me though :P

Yes, an iPad is exactly like a stone. I guess a touch screen laptop would be the same as a rock as well. Why don't we all just use stones instead of laptops? Hey, they're free!

No, a touch screen laptop will have multi-tasking, USB ports, and stuff.

Anyway, a new update will give the iPad Multi-Tasking features so now I accept it and won't diss it any-more :) I might even get one if you can get Photoshop on it. I want a tablet and what better than getting an Apple one? Then again, I might just wait until they release the second generation one which will most definitely have much better hardware, eg. Camera.

Here's an article that I've read about the iPad, and it's changed my mind about its worth:

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/03/ff_tablet_levy/

Honestly, I think that comparison on the iPad to a stone is stupid. They did the same thing with an iTouch. And there are quite a few very nice functions of the iPad.

To start this off, an iPad is not supposed to be a replacement for your laptop. After all, you do need a computer to sync it. It'll have a lot of cool functions like instantly turning on (which is quite nice, because if I just want to check a website I don't want to have to wait 10 minutes for my computer to boot up), and no hardware needed (no keyboard, mouse, etc.). The iPad uses the most complex multi-touch system among items sold at a commercial level too.

It's meant to make people rethink the way they use computers. According to the article, "The fact is, the way we use computers is outmoded. The graphical user interface that’s still part of our daily existence was forged in the 1960s and ’70s, even before IBM got into the PC business. Most of the software we use today has its origins in the pre-Internet era, when storage was at a premium, machines ran thousands of times slower, and applications were sold in shrink-wrapped boxes for hundreds of dollars."

So there's really no point to be trashing the iPad, like ayashe said. Maybe it's just something you're not comfortable with, but who knows, maybe a couple years from now, you'll have something like it. I remember a couple years ago when they just released the iTouch everyone had the same reaction, but look now - everyone has one.
