~Mike~
I have recently come across an addon that I now use for neopets its called Ad Block Plus. This is a ad on for fire fox that lets you block adds on websites. I know for myself being over 18 the site shows me some adds which I find inapropriate and with my very ancient computer slow it down. If you do not know much about ad-ons or do not feel comfortable installing it yourself get an older person or someone more familiar to install it for you. To search for ad-ons just google "firefox addons" and it should be fairly easy to find. As far as I know this does not violate any neopets rules, somebody correct me if I am wrong, and I think that everyone can benefit from this. The adds sucks and its only viacom trying to make money off children, the same with neocash, i'm sure the original owners are disgusted with how viacom is trying to take money which ever way they can. Neopets is one of the largest databases for child advertisement and make tons of money off of having so many kids play the game. I think they can deal with us not seeing their dumb useless weight loss adds.
Stephé
TDN actually has a guide on blocking neopets ads on Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera here, here and here, respectively. :) I personally also think that some of the ads are incredibly inappropriate for younger users' eyes while browsing the site. ~Mike~
O hah then feel free to delete this thread, I did not realize there was already one
a_person
I personally also think that some of the ads are incredibly inappropriate for younger users' eyes while browsing the site. i agree. the weight loss advertisements do seem a bit awkward, and wasn't neopets more child friendly at the beginning? so yes i hate the adds on neopets
Deepti M.
I have seen neopets advertise some profanities that if you even typed into a board, it would not go through. That made me really mad though, because how come they're advertising these types of things, and then have the nerve to wonder why you're even going to type that in, and then maybe suspend or freeze you. My cousin plays neopets, and she's 8, and one day she went up to me and asked me what {insert profanity here} means. Sorry for saying profanity excessively. :P
monica3981
yeah there sooooo inapropiot(sp?)i got a add for something very.....unusual one time
-Ryan
Yeah, does everyone remember that one add that had a curse word in it? That stupid video series where people act stupid =/ They really should block adds for little kids.
May.
Yeah, my two younger brothers' play on Neopets. Even though they're going to middle school next year, I still don't think they're safe from most ads. x3 So I installed ad-block on both of their computers. ^_^
~Mike~
yeah the ones that I find the most annoying are the "something that rhymes with weenis(the skin on ur elbow)" enlargement pills
Reve
The ads are really that inappropiate? o__o I've been using AdBlock since before I started playing Neopets again, so I haven't seen any ads on Neopets. In TNT's defence though, they get big packages of them, so they don't see every single ad. They're probably not even aware of those inappropiate ones -- if you see any like that, I think there's a place to report them. ^^ On the subject of addons, you can download them safely from the official site, addons.mozilla.org. :3 Another very good one to have is NoScript, which helps keep your browser secure from various attacks. Just be sure to allow Neopets.
Deepti M.
True, but Noscript is a pain to tame. I tried to tame it, and I just gave up, because I didn't have enough time.
Lion
NoScript is quite annoying to un-block certain sites. ABP is okay to use, as is NoScript, as stated in this editorial: From NT Editorial #190, Question 12 According to the Neopets Terms & Conditions, players shouldn't use any programs that change the game experience(refreshers, etc.). While I know this has been in effect for a while, it's now said that "if you use such a program on theneopets.com website, you will pay NeoPets, Inc. liquidated damages in the sum of Five Hundred Dollars for each time you usea program." Does this mean that if I use ad-block, or have a computer that doesn't run Flash and can't see ads, that I'mgoing to be fined?!?!?! - -username removed- Neopets strives to an environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to flourish if they obey the rules of game. TheTerms and Conditions set forth how the level playing field is maintained. People who use outside programs to cheat thegame play, such as autobuyers programs, are not playing fairly. Programs that do not affect the game play, such as adblock, do not give a player an unfair advantage and therefore can be used. Likewise, people can always manually refresh apage. As long as you are not playing unfairly, you have nothing to worry about. And yes, I have seen some of the bad ads. Weightloss ads mainly. May.
yeah the ones that I find the most annoying are the "something that rhymes with weenis(the skin on ur elbow)" enlargement pills Does the product's name start with a V? 'Cause I used to get those ads, but it's actually a virus. o_O If not, please ignore me. xD
Deepti M.
I would like to see every person who uses a program to pay 500 bucks, get their accounts frozen, and I-ps. That would be a sight to see. xD
Sassy_Eggs
So many sites have ads these days that I pretty much don't see them anymore. The only thing I notice is the big fancy ones that slow my computer down. I understand the need for them, but they interfere with gameplay. fashiongirl25
Hey! I have adblock as well, which is really good because I hate seeing those ads... Thank goodness!
stephie23
when I actually pay attention to the ads I have seen a couple inappropraite ones. I wonder if they allow them so parents will buy premium to block out the ads for their kids.. hmmm typically though I just don't pay attention to the ads, you see so many in a day that you just learn to tune them out after a while... I dont even watch the adver video ones, I open that window and another at the same time... :P lol
Ashbash
I might have to look into the TDN guide. I never knew it existed and I'm very tired of some of the ads. They interfere with certain games for me.
