~Mike~ Posted June 18, 2009 Share Posted June 18, 2009 Now correct me if I am wrong but I personally do not believe that secret laboratory maps will ever become retired. There are so many out there but still half of them are unbuyable(UB). If neopets was to go and make them retired then 80% of users would never be able to get a whole lab map for themselves because the price would skyrocket immediately on the already UB items. Some people might not realize that that most users are not rich and do not play every day :) But anyways as you can see I have added an attachment with the names covered up for anonymity because these people(and believe me there are TONS) have caught my attention recently. I'm one of those people who is all for item hording and inflating within a reasonable manner but I think that these people have gotten it all wrong. We see it so much, people buying out all lab map(and other maps) that are below theirs on their page on the shop wizard, but I do not think that these people will ever recover the amount of neopoints that they have lost and will continue to lose. As you can see even with a person with 60 of the same piece has already lost over 60k in np probably within just a little while(or a long one I do not know). But this is not even a very large representation. There are some people who have over a hundred+ in many different pieces!! Because lab maps are found faster than they are used up(being only able to use one per account I have already received more then a full one through key quest/randoms) I believe that these maps will continue to drop unless they are stopped from being given out. And sure you could say, "Well their items have only lost 1k each and that isn't a big deal right?!?!", in which 60k, is not a big deal to many people(A random event stole one of my UB maps i was trading yesterday and yes it sucked but i'm going to be ok i hope :)). The thing that I don's know if they realize is that if they ever try selling all 60, even if slowly, will cause the price to keep dropping. If these people ever decided to cash out their maps it would drop the price a ton! and they would have more losses then 1-2k per map. With key quest out, even with the summer the prices should continue to drop, unless people keep trying to keep them afloat which will cause them to lose money... It is my belief that they will continue to drop until they are retired so I do not know how or if neopets is ever going to try and fix the market. Of course this is just my opinion and I would lose to get feedback on this! Especially if you notice something I do not. blackcatmagic2003 Posted June 20, 2009 Share Posted June 20, 2009 I bought the lab map pieces several years ago, and shortly afterward took a prolonged absence from playing on the site. When I came back I was shocked to see how much the price for the pieces had gone up. When I bought mine it was about half the price from what it is now. So yes, definitely inflation where that one is concerned. I'm using my ray everyday since I always have a lab pet on my account, so the personal value the map has to me outweighs the price people ask for nowadays by a long shot, but if I would not have the map right now, I would still work toward buying it, no matter how expensive it is. When I find a random piece "on the floor" I sell it, but I've noticed that it's hard at times to get rid of them. I had one sitting in my shop for two weeks until someone finally bought it. It surprised me because after checking the shop wiz I had one of the lowest sale prices out there. What I find even more difficult to sell are the petpet map pieces. At least to me it seems that way. I guess it's because the secret lab map has to be attached to an account before the petpet map can be installed, and many people simply can't afford the secret lab map, or don't want to spend so much money on it, so the petpet map is of no interest to them. The problem is that what most neopians don't understand is that if they stopped paying these outrageous prices for the quote on quote "unbuyable" lab map pieces then eventually they would all be worth nothing. Personally, i get more "unbuyable" lab map pieces than any other piece. I might be an exception but I don't find that they are found any less, if not more!!! But this is the problem..people take what they see at face value, and when an item is not in a shop the price is what other people say "in neopets" therefore all that probably happened way way way back is a group of people decided which pieces to inflate and they did it enough to keep it off the market. You see that for the other pieces that are in shops there are probably more then 1 map for every user(not including sides i guess) to have a lab map. There are probably dozens of players who have hordes of unbuyable lab map pieces on their accounts, but then of course there is the possibility that some of these users have been frozen for inflating and there verywell might not be as many of certain pieces. I would say that yes even at 800k its very much worth it to get the lab map, money is easy to come by in this game. I'm currently doing a study on key quest to see if it is worth the 1:30 i put into it everyday and so far it is yes! with 3 days data=30 gold keys+average 1250np per game i have calculated so far that i make 87k per day.I will be adding more per day but these numbers are with selling all the loot at current cheapest shop wiz prices!
