I have Norton 360 and mine has not worn out. I don't know if it is safe to do it yet, maybe wait and try to get it examined professionally.

Well, I think she has a Dell, because I was the second person to vote on the poll, and there was a Dell vote on there...

I have 7 computers at my house, and 4 of them are Dell and 3 of them are Apple, without any problems.

Just so you know, if the Windows OS is pre-installed onto the Dell computer(s), then Dell holds the warranty for it, not Microsoft. If you call Microsoft to help fix this (if it has crashed and won't boot up), it will be a 79$ credit card charge to speak with a Microsoft technician.

Just so you know...

Oh no! The dredded Blue Screen of Death? (That's actually what it's called). Good luck with that one. It's given me plenty of headaches before all of which resulted in poorly made drivers.

As long as you're surfing on safe websites (if you haven't installed new protection), using your other computer should be okay.

Unless you KNOW you have viruses, don't call Microsoft. Your warranty is with Dell, NOT Microsoft. If you have viruses, we will help you for free (if you can browse the web, go to www.safety.live.com and click on "full service scan" first), if you CAN'T browse the web, then we will get you to technicians ASAP and for free. :)

Aren't you glad a Microsoft employee is on this forum? :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Dell is hardware, microsoft is software - I'm personally using a HP laptop.

Its safe to use a computer if the anti-virus does not work but you must be aware that the chance of downloading a virus unoticed increases greatly. Same with spyware, tracking cookies that sort of thing. Theres plenty of free virus and spyware scanners available online. I recommend Avast! and Spybot search and destroy personally.

Just be careful with downloads and if you need to send files/folders to others tell them to scan before opening to be on the safe side.
