What motivates you, and why?

In my Psychology class today, my teacher was teaching us about motivation, and the workings behind it. At one point, he asked us to talk about our biggest motivations, or motivators.

So, I decided to come on here and ask all of you: What motivates you? Is it a person, an outcome, or something completely different? For example, someone might say that their biggest motivation is staying healthy, because they want to live for a long time.

For me, my biggest motivator is my mom. Her expectations of me motivate me to do my best, because I hate disappointing her.

Your turn! :D

Hum.... I'm a very unmotivated person... I do something beacuse I feel like it, really. xD But I guess a big motivator would be my best intrests... I mgiht hate writing a paper, but it's in my overall best intrest to write it, in this case to keep my grades up. Heck, I wouldn't do a thing anyone told me to if I wasn't under the threat of losing my computer or something (definatly against my best intrests...)

My motivator is just wanting to get something done. I hate having something sit there, unfinished xD Seeing a final outcome is so much better, it makes me want to do it.

School-wise, it's getting a B in my classes xD I really want an A, so I work harder not to get a B.

Neopets-wise, there really isn't something. Unless I set a short-term goal like getting an avatar, I just do something because I feel like it x-x

Myself pretty much. I wake up in the morning hating to get up but in my head I need to wake up so I can do something! Usually when I go with a decision it flows after that.

The hardest thing to get motivated in is exercise. I'm pretty lazy you could say. Mind over matter to stay healthy.

Sometimes I end up on the couch all day, sometimes I'm staying as long as I can at the pools swimming laps. My decisions control all.

Academically, I look at my grades. I hate it when I fail at a test but I know that's because I wasn't studying enough (that's usually the main reason, I can't focus!) So I'm 'forcing' myself you could say. I'm all about getting over 90% :D

I'm motivated when I have the chance to help somebody else. When faced with something that's only of benefit to me (e.g. making sure to get good test grades), I tend to procrastinate.

Motivation? What is this motivation you speak of?

Seriously, I'm not a very motivated person. I guess I work my hardest doing art, 'cause that's what I really like to do. I always want to do more when working on an art project. But I pretty much don't bother with anything else.

Hi Sara! Just like you, my motivation when I was still a student was my mom. She did so much to help me grow as a person and I always wanted to exceed her expectations. Now that I'm the mom, my motivation has become my kids. I want them to have the kind of mom that I had. It's not easy, especially now that they're still young and difficult at times... ok, most of the time... but I try anyway :D

What's my motivation? I dunno really. If I had to answer, it'd be to have fun. I don't care about being successful or buying nice cars and a big house, or being remember in history. I just want to go out and enjoy my life, see the sights. I mean what else is this life for really? Is our goal to end up in a nice retirement home when we grow up? That seems crappy to me, you work all your life to do nothing but rot in a fancy room. I mean I figured God put us all on this world to enjoy His creation (and to glorify Him, but y'know what I'm saying?), and that's exactly what I intend to do.

If I don't like it, or I don't see it helping me get something else I like, then I'm probably not going to do it.

I think what motivates me the most is probably my best friend Jen. :] I don't even know how to really explain our relationship. Cause if you ever saw me and her, we're complete jerks to eachother. xD But like... She puts everything into perspective for me and she's the one who makes me shut my mouth and think things over for a bit before I react too harshly. It's kinda funny though sometimes, cause she can call at like one in the morning because her and her boyfriend got into a fight and we can just sit in my backyard until five in the morning just talking.

I dunno. She makes me wanna do well so I don't disappoint her. Because if I disappointed my parents, it still wouldn't be as bad knowing I disappointed her.

I'd rather disappoint my own girlfriend than Jen. xD

Um.

My Mum. Maybe a bit cliche but it's true. Also my Grandparents. They have said they want to live long enough to see what I do with my life so I hope I can do that. No idea what I want to DO but for now, I have a web design/development degree and am looking for a job. That's something I suppose.

Also, animals. I have a bunny and would love, love, LOVE to have a few rats and a Bichon Frise puppy. More rabbits, too... you know crazy cat ladies? I'll be the crazy bunny lady. I want to be able to give them an amazing home, when I have my own place I plan to build a massive inside-outside hutch for bun buns and I want to donate to animal charities and help look after abandoned ones.
