McAfee Problems

I've encountered this problem before, when I was beta testing Internet Explorer 7 (yes, THAT long ago XD ). Basically, McAfee relies on Internet Explorer to display stuff - so, when you update Internet Explorer to a version it doesn't recognise (I'm guessing it's the beta of IE8 for you), it messes up and doesn't display anything. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do until McAfee releases an update to fix it. :(

Haha now I see how those two are interlinked. I remember in my last topic (click here to see) I talked about how IE wasn't working. That was after McAfee started working again when I reinstalled it. Then when I reinstalled IE8, McAfee stopped working.

Lol technology can be frustrating at times.

Thanks for helping out!

your main problem is that your using a microsoft OS

Uh, I'm not sure McAfee is compatible with any other type of OS. I mean I've never seen it on a Mac before...

But I'm pretty sure it's not the OS.

the reason for mcafee is to help with viruses, Windows is the only operating system that you have to worry THAT much about viruses. I'm using Linux and i can go into known virus infested websites and surf around and get out without getting anything, and my computer has never crashed without me personally doing something to make it do so. McAfee is terrible, Windows is terrible and anyone who keeps using windows must really like having viruses and having to constantly recieve "critical updates."

A-If Window is rubbish, why are more users using it than Linux

B-McAfee is the of the top Virus protection. (use it myself infact)

C-Linux isn't even that good, Top 2 are Windows and Macs.

But sorry, I've never encountered this problem with McAfee. 3 Steps you could do is

1-Install the McAfee Virtual technician

2-Serach the FAQs on the Mcafee website (Link below)

3-(This is really handy) talk to someone over IM. You just have to give them your information and then wait for a operator (normally 1-5 minutes)

Option 3 would probably help the most, but its up to you. Here is the link if you want to try.

Yeah I've already tried the virtual technician before I posted here and it said everything was fine.

Maybe I'll try step three when I have the time to do so. For the time being I'm going to assume the problem is what Sky Shadow and elcid mentioned earlier.

I would advise doing step 3 soon, rather waiting for an update.

Im sure McAfee knows about this problem, but it could be days/ afew weeks before an update is available.

Talking to a adviser may help your fix it right away, because if you McAfee breaks (somehow), there be no way of fixing it because you won't have access to the security center.

Okay, so as of right now, the problem still hasn't been fixed. Is anyone else having the same problem?

So I finally went ahead and did step 3, and all the guy told me to do was uninstall IE8, but I can't do that. Ugh I'm so frustrated! :grrr: What do I do?

Well Microsoft does have documentation on uninstalling IE8 Beta 2 here. Hopefully that works for you - if not, I guess you're stuck.

Sweetness! IE8 is officially uninstalled! Thanks Sky Shadow for finding that page for me, and thanks to everyone else for helping me out! ^_^ The problem is resolved.

I guess this topic can be closed now.

Never had McAfee. Though a good anivirus I know of is Avast. It is updated regularly (Sometimes more than once a day), Easy to use, & most importantly......It's free! (unless your using the computer for a business, then you have to pay a little bit. It is here: http://www.avast.com/ (posted the site because there are many fake sites that pop up before the real one in google search)

Would it be a good idea to have both running at the same time? I heard that having two anti-virus systems might cause some problems.

Uh... I wouldn't recommend that. I tried it once, and apart from ending up with a computer so slow it was unusable, I also found that the two programs constantly interfered with each other, acting up and complaining about missing libraries, etc.
