FutureTXTurkey
I get so sick and tired of trying to name my pets something cool and finding out that I can't because a person with a frozen account already has it. Once someone's account is frozen why can TNT not re-release the names of the frozen pets. I mean I know sometimes accounts get unfrozen, so I totally understand having a grace period for reviewing of the freeze, but after a year surely we could get those names back in circulation? Or the pets in the pound taking up cool names...that one bothers me too. I wish they would "no name" the pound pets, and then when you adopt a pound pet I think when you should get the option to rename it... What Do You Think? p.s. On a slightly separate note. I don't want to offend anyone, but I also hate it when people use names clearly best suited for one kind of pet on differnt kind of pet.Unless their account predate the release of the better suited pet. Like the Aisha named Mammoth (which is also a frozen account pet) wouldn't that name be so much better for an...Oh I dunno,Elephante?!
Unstream
Yeah that's true. It's always hard to come up with a good name that hasn't been taken yet. I say that TNT should delete all of the Neopets on the frozen accounts after a year or so.
Crusher
I like your name deletion idea for pounding. With transfers now available, there's no reason for anyone pounding to have an emotional tie to that name anymore. On a side note, about people naming pets innapropriately, I do see where you're coming from. Some people just want to be able to paint a pet a corresponding colour (think Tyrannian for Mammoth), until they realise just how much that PB is going to set them back XD. =Cameron=
torridity
I was under the impression that they already did that. I believe they only recycle names on accounts that have been dormant for a really long time... even more than a year.
Izzy ♥
Yes, TNT does recycle names after a while. The account has to have been frozen for more than two years I think, or longer if they don't get around to re-releasing the names right away. If there's a name you like thats stuck on a frozen account, just check for it every so often. I know plenty of people who have lists of names that they're waiting for :) Eventually, some do become available and you can create it if you catch the availability in time! I can't say I'm a fan of the pound renaming idea. Maybe deleting pets that aren't adopted for over say six months, but I often pound well named, painted pets for others to adopt and it kind of defeats the purpose if they can just rename it. Also, there is a lot of potential for abuse - people pounding their badly named but nicely painted pets just for the chance to readopt them and pick a new name. TNT might as well just let everyone rename their pets if they do that, and that could cause all sorts of problems in and of itself. The other problem with no-naming the pound pets, how is adopting then different from simply creating? True you can get LE or sometimes painted pets but they're hard to find sometimes. I can only imagine that they'd get harder to catch if people could rename the pets they find in the pound. If there is a pet in the pound with a name that you like, whats to stop you from just adopting it? Even if its not the species you would like... thats why we have morphing potions lol
Stephé
I do see where all of you are coming from. Maybe TNT could take up this initiative. But then again they do have a lot to put up with already. I think the idea of releasing names back again is a great one!
Unstream
I don't think that pets should be renamed when they go into the pound. I think that pets that have been in the pound for over 6 months, and accounts that have been frozen for 6 months, should have their pets removed from the system. The names are deleted from their database and then back up for grabs. And I think TNT should delete accounts that have been inactive for over one year, but they should have a feature where the person gets to push that day back if they intend to come back. naalaro
I dont have that problem ^^ Maybe because im a writer, and i write a lot. Coming up with original names that sound good is part of a writers job. Really, just go to Wikipedia and study the cultures of the Americas or ancient Asia or Greece, you're BOUND to find something. Like..um, Syafihael (doesn't mean anything)XDDD *ahem* that aside, i feel that neopets should indeed have a recycling policy, but give the owner at least 4 years or so. If the owner doesnt come back, then i suppose the name can be recycled. If the owner comes back after the 4 years, he or she will have the rename the pet again. Thsi way there will always be a continuous cycle, of names being taken, and names disappearing.
~warriorcatsforever~
hmmm...i do think they should do something to get rid of all the old accounts and pets that no one will ever use, but all of that might be REALLY hard to set up...they should do something like that though, id love to get pets with nicer names!! i am pretty creative about names too, though. tillywillywoo, tigerwigerwoo, and poofer_piffer_puffer are the names of some of my darling pets, and no one had taken them. FutureTXTurkey
Well it's good to hear that they do clear out those frozen account pets eventually. Although I think it could be done sooner than they are doing it. Like Thaladirith said, they could give you an option to put a hold on your account if you know you won't be able to play for a year or more, and that way inactive accounts could be cleared out quickly, and people's accounts wouldn't get erased when they were just taking a break, sick, or on sabbatical. There was no specific name I was wanting that I couldn't get, I absolutely adore the names of all of my pets. And I have always found a way to make a name I like without adding crazy characters or random numbers. This is just something I noticed back when I won an Tyrannian PB from the WOM. I was debating keeping it and making a Tyrannian Elephante, or selling it. I finally decided to sell because ever possible name that I really liked was in use already, mostlyby people with frozen accounts, or really old/innactive accounts. I definitely see the complications associated with the pound renames, and people loosing credit for their donated pets. Maybe that could be an option when you put a pet up for adoption, to allow or not allow people to change the name. As far as people putting a pet up for adoption just to get it back and rename it. I personally don't have a problem with that. I mean I see a few potential complications, but nothing the gods at TNT couldn't handle. Not to mention those people have to risk someone else adopting their pet before they can reclaim it. TNT could put a hold on when a pet put up for adoption gets recirculated, and re-release at random time intervals. That would limit abuse because people would really be taking a risk. I just think renames would encourage more people to use the adoption agency, instead of fresh creating, which I think is a good thing. I know I would do only adopts if I could pick the names. Quester101
I hate having to think up creative names for pets. I agree that pounded pets should have their names reset. I think more people would want to adopt if that was the case as well. Also, when an account has been frozen for several months, it ain't very likely it will be unfrozen. I esp. hate it that the pets (and their names, of course) are stuck in a limbo when their owner has been frozen. SAVE NEOPIA! RECYCLE NAMES! Macabre
I would love for Neo to recycle names. I'm always looking for names, and it's super frustrating when its taken on some six or seven year old account that hasn't been logged into for ages, or frozen accounts. As for the pounding idea, that might cause a lot of problems- I often pound lend my basic pets with petpets attached since its sorta a waste of a transfer to transfer a basic-colored pet. :/ Plus adoption agencies. Maybe, if an account is frozen for doing something that they don't give the account back for (I believe, if your a victim of some kinds of hacks, they say you won't get your account back?) then they could automatically recycle the names...hmm. On a somewhat related note, does anyone know why pets sometimes revert back to basic colors when their owners are frozen?
Quester101
Sometimes, if neopets thinks you're scamming by using multiple accounts, they will A. Freeze your accoubnt B. If they give it back, 1/2 neopoints ans rare items will be gone and all painted pets reverted to normal.
NeoOlogy
I don't think it would be fair for the owner of the frozen account. Frozen accounts still have a chance of being recovered but after enough time, the frozen account will be deleted along with all the pets, items, etc. So the names are recycled but it takes time for those frozen accounts to become completely unrecoverable and then deleted. It happened to my first main account except it took years for it to be deleted.

malindamya
i wish you had the option of renaming your pound pets something other than what they came with...i dont really want to adopt adakjshdaksydwj_83 I'd rather rename it something cute. Dragonis
i doubt that will ever happen because then they have to give up their really big number of neopets and owners
Syn-Chan
The thing is, pound renaming would bring out a ton of abuse. My account, after six years mind you, has finally been purged. Six. Years. TNT should make a wipe for next year. Wipe off accounts that are inactive for two years, and not keep them in the database. Why? Because even if you have them saved in the database, it's still making up the millions of players now. Most of them are dead accounts and it's getting harder to name my pets. Thank god I already almost have all my dream pets... ...Basically, what I'm saying is they need a week of erasing old accounts. Maybe send out an email to everyone saying they will be purging accounts that week, then the next week they start clearing it out. Sounds fair to me, as these people aren't caring for their pets, and this website is for taking care of virtual pets and having fun, amirite? MissFlorida
I wish if an account was inactive for 4 years it would be removed. I like frozen accounts not being purged because then if I looked someone up that I remember from long ago and it was a totally different neopet I wouldn't know, I would just assume that the owner took it to the lab ray or something. I'm more of a fan of being able to rename my pets, I wasn't smart enough to come up with something cool and catchy because it seems like everything is taken so I got sick of trying so my pets names are all "petsnicknamehere#############". Except one of them I got from the pound I purposely looked for a pet with a nice name so I could use my cybunny morphing potion on instead of just creating another pet. NeoOlogy
Maybe after 2 years of inactivity, the account and pets go invisible as if they don't exist except they are still available but the pets will lose their names and need to be renamed upon login. It could be a pet recovery system where you can go to create a pet but get the option of recreating the pet with the same color, species, stats and you can only change the name and pet favorites. This way there is no need to worry about quiting Neopets for years expecting find out that the pets and hard work is deleted. The username is still taken but the Neopets' information will go into a storage in case the pet is still wanted after the long period of inactivity. Names will be recycled but the pets will still be on the inactive account but can't be viewed, searched, etc. at all like it was completely deleted but it is instead stored elsewhere waiting for the owner to return. ΩCCΩ
I hink that maybe they can make ALL pet accounts that are frozen or inactive for over 2 years must be put for adoption and all the accounts to be deleted after 3 years.
smilykid616
A few days ago I would have agreed that TNT should delete inactive accounts after twoish years, however yesterday I told my friend all about my neopets addiction, and she said she had had an account too! She went on and requested her password, it was sent to her e-mail and now she's playing and earning neopoints again. She only had one pet on that account, but she really liked him and I would have hated the whoel thing to be deleted. I think maybe as an alternative, TNT could send an e-mail to the regestered account before they deleted it saying, we're going to delete your account in a week because you haven't been active in two years. If you'd still like this account we ask that you log on and reset the dormant period for your account. (or something like that.) This could also make people come back to playing the game, since they may have forgotten, or might come on and remember their pets/items/friends and want to play again. I do find it frustrating though when you find a pet name you'd like and it turns out it's taken by a pet who's frozen. But I also understand where the part is about how just making a pet go *poof* isn't a good example for the real world. People don't just poof do they? Guest shanemk
OMG I wish I never read this post! It made me think about the kougra I gave up, her name is Bjarnsdottir and her petpet quetzalcoatl went with her. I looked her up using neopets search and she is sad and I rly wish they would clear names cause man! I know bjarnsdottir is just a bunch of data but i kind of makes me mad to see her being unhappy, like she is being abused. But I rly wanted a lutari I could slowly work on....and didn't think it was fair to just push her to second place, so i let her go....sigh.... smileyfizzle996
Although I have never had this problem, know that it has been brought to my attention, I think TNT should recycle names. Its pointless just to keep the frozen accounts there with the names and stuff. That could be a big loss. Some little kids I know would/will give up on a game if they can't name their pets/whatever what they want.
