antiaircraft
Well, as I'm sure most of you know, Google has released the Windows beta of its new browser, Google Chrome. This release marks Google's entry into the web browser market, competing with the likes of Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Google has definitely made a splash with its browser's entry, but whether it will have a permanent impact in the industry has yet to be seen. If you haven't had a chance to try out the Google Chrome beta yet, you can download it here. The reviews I've seen have been almost unanimously positive, praising its speed, usability, and clean interface (Levy's is the exception I think ;) ), but I'm interested to know what the people on TDN think of the browser. Do you find it fast enough? Is the interface to your liking? Are you thinking seriously about switching? So, what's your opinion on Google Chrome? Xepha
I tried it through screen sharing with TJ because I've no Windows computers now :P. It's not bad, but I still prefer Safari to it :P
Guest Levy
I wrote a blog about it yesterday. Enjoy! Wednesday, September 3, 2008Google Chrome Beta: EPIC PHAIL! First I want to add my computer's specs: RAM: 320MB Processor: 350MHz OS: Windows XP SP3 Okay, so I read the comic Google had on their site and I thought, "Well hey, this seems like a nice product to kill IE, not that Firefox is still doing a pretty d*** good job at that." So I download the Google Chrome Beta. And I know it is still a beta, but come on! Firefox right now is taking up 70,000k of my memory. That is needed for having two tabs open. But I am sure I could have a few more ten tabs open before much lag set in. And I have had 100 tabs up before with no slips. However, while I was running Google Chrome it was barely using 25,000k of my memory. I'm thinking, WTF? I tried loading a few of my normal pages; dA, Bite-fight, and Club FAKE STAR. Those pages took forever to load and dA never loaded at all. And the memory usage never breached 25,000k. Google is so concerned about memory usage, the browser isn't even getting enough memory to run a couple basic pages. I understand my computer sucks but... D***. I suggest not even trying Google Chome until the beta is over with and they fix these problems. It is ridiculous. Stick with Firefox 3.
Guest HBK
Well, it works fine here, and never had any problems with it on Windows XP and Vista, but I'll stick to FF since I have tons of extensions I love and just can't pass without. antiaircraft
While I still haven't gotten to try it out personally, I've had several people I know say that it's worth trying out. They're still sticking with their old browsers though, at least until Chrome is out of beta. It seems that Chrome isn't without major flaws though: http://www.crn.com/security/210300333 Edit: More security info on Chrome here.
TheUnknown
It's pretty fast, so I like it for that. Of course, it's in beta, and without features like Ad-Block (or compatibility with other add-ons), I'd probably not use it too often. For now, I'm just using it for my video watching. ^_^
Derick
I like it. It is really fast and clean. The only thing I don't like is that Youtube freezes whenever I try to watch videos.
