  1. Whoa! I've been a member of Neopets since 2000 (I feel so old...) and wow! This is quite a shocking change for me. It reminds me a lot of other sites I go to, but it's weird to look at that after having the sidebar layout for nearly seven years and think - that's Neopets. I'm so accustomed to the other one after all this time so this one is going to take some getting used to.

I think I like the new layout better though.

  2. ZOMG I WON! I WON A PAINTBRUSH!

Actually, I did, so this may be helpful? If it's at all predictable, maybe...

    Fruit: Puntec x3

Items: Bottled Fire Faerie x2, Bottled Water Faerie, Shadow Paintbrush

    NP: 25,000

    Time: 06:08:08 am NST

Pet level and strength were also supposedly increased.

  3. When I was in 5th grade, I tested consistently at the 8th grade level and the school people kept pressuring my family to bump me three grades. They let me pick and I chose not to... I've always been glad of that. In 9th grade I skipped up to 10th grade English classes, and I took a lot of AP courses, but that English class sucked. I had an awesome teacher but it took a long time (pretty much until 11th grade, as I stayed with the same group of people in that class until they graduated) for most of the other kids to stop making fun of me. It was the most infuriating thing.

  4. Do you wear a wigcap? I've found it really helps with the fit, the realism of the wig (it makes your hair/scalp match the tone of the wig if you order a matching one, so the blend is more realistic) and with the itching/discomfort.

  5. Maybe I'm just partial to wigs... (There should be a sweatdropping smiley here...) They're probably my favorite part of cosplay because I like my hair. I have short spikey hair with longer bangs (chin length), and I like to keep it that way, but with a wig I can cosplay just about whatever character I want, no matter what color or style their hair is - I don't have to limit myself based on my hair ^_^ . My eye color, on the other hand, is a different story since I can't get contacts, much less colored ones. I have found one character that I can do with my normal hair, but I don't know anything about her yet and won't get to watch the series she's from for a while because it's not licensed in the US yet that I know of.

  6. Well it's supposed to be (and is!) a lot of fun... but if you aren't careful you can end up with a really bad costume and end up being laughed at or made fun of at a convention, and that's no fun. :sad01_anim:

  7. Some of my friends play Yugioh, but I don't. The only things I know about Yugioh I learned from the Abridged Series on YouTube, which I know is not the best source. Supposedly they're going to teach me and make me play with them at Anime Central this year, but I'm going to try to get out of it if I can. Card games are not my thing...

  8. It's really hard to give ideas when you won't tell us what you look like beyond what color your hair is. What body type do you have? How long is your hair? What color are your eyes/can you get colored contacts? What shows have you seen/do you like? What type of clothing are you comfortable/uncomfortable wearing? How much sewing experience do you have?

I saw Trinity Blood suggested but would advise you to not cosplay from Trinity Blood if you don't have extensive amounts of sewing experience or the results won't be pretty. I've been sewing and making costumes since I was 10 (I'm 20 now) and even I'm intimidated by some of the designs from that show. Unfortunately, I don't know of any characters with hair like that, since I would assume it's easier to be consistent with a character whose hair is only one color. I would honestly advise picking a character you like that suits your personality and body type, and buying a wig to go with your costume. Then again, I'm a huge stickler for costume accuracy.

Besides, it's generally considered bad form to cosplay a character you know nothing about, so we need to know a bit more than you're telling us if we are to offer any worthwhile suggestions.

  9. I don't see why everyone seems to think I'm advocating abortion as the best or first choice. I think everything possible should be done to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and failing everything else one should have the right to look to abortion.

But hey, I have the right to be selfish with my own body, and nobody can take that away from me. If that makes me a bad person according to your morals, so be it. According to my beliefs, no fetus that couldn't survive outside the womb is a true human. If it's aborted before it could survive outside the womb, it's no different than getting rid of a rat in your house. *shrug* But I'm not going to protest your right to keep an unexpected/unplanned child for which you might be completely unprepared, however silly I may think that is, and I'm not going to call you names (like "selfish") for your beliefs, and I think that is a courtesy that should be extended in the other direction as well.

    Pregnancy isn't that bad.

Have you ever been pregnant? Because I've always ever heard that it's far less than "not that bad". Try, having to use the bathroom every hour day and night, not being able to get out of your bed or bathtub unassisted, gaining weight and not being able to lose it... the list goes on and on, and that doesn't even get to the part where labor is pretty darn painful. :eh: Or have you ever seen a woman whose husband/mate isn't supportive and doesn't help her take care of the kid(s)? Because that happens much more often than you seem to think.

Relationships and families (especially where new children are concerned) are scary things if you look past the sunshine and roses.

  10. Global warming is a myth made up by liberal leaders to keep the electorate scared and continuing to vote for liberal agendas.

The Earth has been warming up and cooling down on its own for millions of years. There have been ice ages and heat waves. Last I heard there were no industry or cars during these times.

The point about so-called "global warming" is that past warming and cooling trends haven't been seen to occur as quickly as this one. That's what makes it alarming and leads to the speculation that recent technological developments have something to do with it. I haven't done enough research either way, but I find it kind of suspicious.

And I really, really, really despise the use of "liberal" as a derogatory term. Want me to start ranting about conservative agendas? Because I can. That won't make it true, or even relevant, but I'll do it, just to fulfill my need for balance.

  11. Is it right to kill an innocent person? No.

Is it allowable to kill animals that are "inferior" to humans, or otherwise not self-aware? Yes. (Let someone that's never, ever, ever even squashed a bug or eaten a piece of meat tell me otherwise.)

Does a five-week-old fetus have sentience and awareness, like a person? Nobody can yet prove yes or no.

Should a woman be forced to keep something unwanted within her body for nine months? Absolutely not - if she does not want it, it should not be there.

There are physical risks one takes when getting an abortion, but there are also many physical risks one takes when one becomes pregnant. But what it boils down to for me, as a woman, is that, were something unforeseeable to happen to me where I should end up pregnant, I would not want anyone, anyone else that is not me to tell me that I have no right to my own body. My body is mine before anyone else's, even if that "anyone else" is an "innocent" human fetus. And because my body is mine, I expect to have more right to it than anyone else, and for my rights to take precedence over theirs. I will take every precaution that I can in order not to become pregnant, but should it happen, especially against my will, I would consider abortion before carrying a child to term. I'd rather risk a surgery a few weeks in than spend the rest of my life hating myself for destroying my life with a child (and no, adoption doesn't magically "fix" that).

And besides, at least with abortion being legal, it's being done in a (presumably safe/sterile) doctor's office instead of at home with a coat hanger. If a woman wants an abortion, she's going to have one, one way or another, whether it's legal or not.

Those that want to argue "nature's way" can stop using contraceptives and family planning, because you don't see "lesser" animals using those either.

  12. :( Wind Waker is the only Zelda game that I don't currently own (for a system I actually have, that is). I want it, but I don't want to pay a lot for it, because I find the art style creepy rather than cute and I doubt I'll play it more than once...

My favorite Zelda game would be Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask for the N64. I don't think I could pick between them. :*

  13. For about four years I had one really scary recurring dream... then all of a sudden it just stopped happening. It was unusually long and detailed for a dream, and just about every night it was the same thing, or I'd see a little more or a little less than the previous time, or maybe see something from a different angle. I'm hoping to eventually write it into some sort of story. ^_^

  14. I think it's pretty ridiculous to strongly agree (or disagree) with these statements without some sort of condition. I mean, most primates eat plants and fruit only... humans evolved to eat meat, I believe in order to support our relatively large brain size. Biologically speaking, it's built into us to eat meat, to hunt and kill other animals to provide food for ourselves. On the other hand, the other two statements could involve unnecessary cruelty to the animals, but it's difficult to be entirely against them because some good can come from zoos and testing medicines, for example.

  15. I voted for Coke. I don't really notice a taste difference between them (other than that I like Coke with lime, and don't know whether or not Pepsi has a lime variant), but I do know that Coke stays fizzy longer, at least for me. And I hate flat soda, so Coke it is.

  16. I'm usually wary of the homeless people (or at least beggars) here... They're always hanging around near the popular stores trying to beg money off unsuspecting or kindhearted students... But I don't trust them to use the money to help themselves, so I don't give them anything. Actually it kind of creeps me out. I feel bad about it, because for all I know they're good people, but it's just so hard to tell. :sad02:

  17. CON to all three. These statements are way too broad.

    1. We're omnivores. We were made/evolved to eat meat as well as plants. That's just the way life is. And in some places hunting is necessary to thin out the population since humans disposed of all of a species' natural predators (such as deer around here... we'd be up to our necks in starved deer if we didn't hunt them). If some people like it and it needs to be done for the good of the ecosystem, I see nothing wrong with hunting or even enjoying it.

    2. I'm more mixed on this issue. If the "sport" involves cruelty to the animal I'm against it. But I see nothing wrong with zoos (the kind that have decent conditions and take care of and respect their animals), especially the ones with breeding programs for animals that are endangered or even extinct in their natural habitat. Without zoos, those animals would be lost forever, so how would closing zoos help them?

    3. Some testing has to be done for drugs and medications, and honestly, I'd prefer it be done on a rat than a human being were something to go wrong. Of course eventually it has to be tested on humans, but the initial tests, when all we have are guesses/hypotheses as to what effect will occur, should be done on something else - something small, that won't suffer long if something goes wrong or has a bad side effect. For other things, things that aren't necessary, like cosmetics, animal testing should be banned.
