I was in the exact same predicament, buying higher value dubloon coins and having to buy petpets to split. The dubloon-o-matic should really go both ways.
You can access the Golden Dubloon with the old link. It can be a bit glitchy/slow but totally surpasses the flash dead end, and buy a 1 dubloon item and get change.
