Make sure you're putting "Codestone" and not "Codestones"

Just looked up codestones on the Trading Post and had no issues. I also used "Identical to my phrase" so that it shows me all of the lots that have the specific codestone I'm looking for.

If you're just looking up any Codestone, you can search "Codestone" and keep it on "containing my phrase" and should show you all of the lots that have any item that had "Codestone" in it.

 

That's exactly what I was doing. I wasn't looking up Codestones, but Codestone, and containing my phrase. I got absolutely nothing. :/

Is this normal? Every time I try to search for a codestone on the trading post I keep getting the message "I could not find any lots fitting that description!"

I've totally seen codestones in lots before.

Folks are always talking about buying codestones in bundles and I'm hoping I can save a few pennies on training by buying in bulk. xD I don't want a set, just random stones that I'll use up eventually.

Go to the pet's lookup and click the link associated with it being 'in the pound.' Some pets get stuck and can't be adopted by searching normally.

I'm not really big into the NC Mall period, but I definitely wouldn't backtrack! Way too expensive.

 

Me too. Going back seems like a really really bad idea. I tried trading once - I've got a couple of really valuable things that people seem to want - but I couldn't find an accurate way of determining the values. Whenever trading on neopets you kind of assume everyone is shorting you, but in this case I couldn't for the life of me tell by how much. xD' So I stopped.

I think it'd be awesome if we held a vote and joined a team forum wide ^_^ we'd totally kick the other teams out of the water!

I have no idea ^ ^' but it rubs me totally wrong. If a kid copies another artist, using certain facial features or poses, to learn about how the piece was done, the community flails and bashes and strikes them down faster than you can say 'credit before they kill you D:'

I hate the advertising part myself x_x' I found out pretty quickly that I'd never be a good salesperson. XD' If I don't believe in what I'm selling, I just can't bring myself to sell it. I know it's likely a self esteem thing xD but I'm not sure my art is any better than the other contestants this week. I guess that's the point, though. It's not about the quality of the product, but whether or not you can get someone to buy it. >.<'

They'd always complain way back when that 'bad art' was winning over the pieces that artists slaved over, but it wasn't about the art. That's not what the contest was about.

Pish. Any art is only not creative if you are completely copying someone else's work. Like tracing over, etc, and then trying to pass it off as your own.

yeeah xD' that's true. A lot of what I'm seeing on DA lately has been like that. Tracing vectors over MLP characters ::boggles:: and people love it!

I don't have anything around at the moment, but I really am not being humble by saying I'm not a great artist. XD I do have an Ogrin at the moment though - thanks Lab Ray :P - and those are far from being really popular. I imagine that just by entering I'll almost be guarranteed a win. ;)

It's all about practice. I don't think anyone comes out into the world with some mysterious talent that everyone keeps talking about. If you want to see some of my work from 2002 when I first started I'll share, but it's pretty awfull ::laughs:: practice is how we all get better. ^_^ It's all about moving forward.

That said, I don't remember the BC being so... vicious. o_O' Maybe it's because when I last entered it was in 2004 and there were so many peeps but this time it's just like... five of us fighting over the top few posts on the boards. It's ugly! The biting and snapping behind false grins isn't something I've ever been good at. xD So I'm making a lot of enemies as the weakest of the herd. Probably the worst of it is the little fennec-fox lupe who I'm in direct competition with. A segment of the group seems to have decided I'm evil and deserve to be crushed so that she wins. xD' Oh the drama.

 

Anyone else have some BC horror stories? After just a day of this I get the feeling there's gotta be quite a few out there.

I feel your pain D: my stocks have been -100% to -500% for what seems like forever. xD' I'll just have to sit on them until the randomness brings them back.

Your first warning? o_O' What was the warning for? ::boggles:: Not having a good connection?

A very common way hackers transport goods is by spammailing to hundreds accounts and then layering them like a web so it's hard to catch them. The farther they get the items away from the original source, the higher chance they have of keeping some of those items for selling later. All of this happens extremely quickly.

Once they've cracked into an account they'll look you over and decide wether or not to make a move. Most use a link list made available in their communities, kind of like what we use here on TDN to do our dailies faster. If they decide to make the hit the first thing they do is lock you out - some do it while you're still logged in because they like the 'sense of urgency,' others will wait until you've logged out or become inactive for the night - then they dump the items and go on a sendspree. From there TNT has to find out which accounts have the items, and more often than not a large majority are gone before they get there. This is when you find people on trade chat refusing to buy from shells but what you want to look for is how fast they want to deal with you. If they're not willing to wait a few minutes to sell, the person is trying to get the item off their hands and into currency because changing the item into currency/other items often confuses the hounds. ((If you have the right shops set up, you can disperse the money into millions of different directions in moments.)) By this time the account is either self frozen or the TNT shows up.

 

When I say they have hundreds of accounts at their disposal I mean it, and a large number of those accounts are inactive shells they cracked into well before the event.

 

What you also see during these exchanges is them throwing items in completely random directions - including at people on the account's friendlist or posting on the boards that they're hosting a giveaway. People who've worked really hard to earn the money to buy those items won't usually want to just give them away, even if they quit, so be suspicious before taking anything from someone especially if it's a person you've never spoken to before. The reason they're doing it is to create a buffer of random accounts that TNT will freeze over the accounts that are actually them. TNT doesn't know which are which in these instances - they're trying to stop the person as fast as they can. They don't have time to check. For every second TNT wastes freezing an innocent person, that's a second they can use to bump the item a couple of inches out of sight.

 

So we learn 3 things here:

A: If you're going to give away to friends never do it in bundles, particularly if the items are in high value. This will often set off those 'alarms' and make the TNT suspect you as an invader dumping items. Just go slow, they'll get the items when they get them; and grats on being a cool person.

Also keep in open nm contact with the friend that you're giving the items to, even if it's someone from an outside site that you talk to on a regular basis so it doesn't look like you're just moving goods around. This leaves distinct evidence for TNT to pick through if/when TNT goes to investigate.

B: If you're not sure if your friend has been hacked into or they're acting funny ((as in, completely not like themselves)), send a message to TNT. The faster they get to the account, the faster they can bring things to pause so it can be reviewed.

C: Shells are tricky. I use a shell for trading because people are so hard to deal with when money becomes involved and because if I'm selling a valuable item and they decide to hack in to see if they can get shinies of me all my stuff/pets/friends remain secure. As a general rule, if someone won't wait for your custom don't do business with them. I know it's hard and you're so excited that you finally raised enough money for [insertitemhere], but take your time.

If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
