You've got the text there at 45', so I'm not sure what you need to do, actually? =D

    Welcome to September.

Autumn's well on it's way, school's beginning, and summer's about to finish. What've we got to look forward to in September?!

Draik Day is in just 9 days, followed by Techo Day on the 13th. The Annual Chocolate Ball takes place on the 15th, whilst Poogle Day is the 19th; followed just a day later by the Faerie Festival! The Gormball Competition Celebrations are underway on September 23rd, and the month draws to a close with Skeith Day on the 25th.

We're also expecting games including Ultimate Bullseye 2, NCMall Giveaway, and the computer game Neopets: Codestone Quest for September 19th.

For now, make sure you get your monthly freebies, and then complete today's FCA and Daily Puzzle! Whilst you're busy, why not complete your dailies, then check out the forums?

    PS: We're back!

Yay! We have successfully moved servers. You shouldn't ever be getting any more server overload pages. The site should be a lot faster now too. Thanks for sticking with us through that rough time!

  4. Violent crime amongst teenagers in Britain really is hyped up. The media have discovered the phrase "gang culture" and leeched to it like it's the Bible. There are millions of children in the UK, and if just one kid dies a month, then that's pretty good, right?

Of course, it's not ideal. And there are areas around the UK - in London, in Manchester, in Liverpool - where gun crime is a little more prevalent. But nevertheless, according to the Home Office, gun crime accounts for less than 0.5% of all crime; in 2005-2006, the risk of being a victim of crime was 23% (the lowest since records began in 1981).

The idea that children are going around carrying knives and guns is, in my mind, absurd. There are some more violent types that I know, but even they don't carry around knives. That's not to say it doesn't exist - Rhys' murder proved to the contrary - but there is, in most areas, no "gang culture" at all. Have you yourself actually ever seen a kid run around with a knive? It just doesn't happen.

With Rhys' murder, it was a case of both mistaken identity and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was an innocent victim. But where gangs do exist, they only bear arms to protect themselves, not to go out and attack others.

We do need to do something about that in the problem areas; stepping up police patrols (both officers and community support officers) is an obvious thing to do, but also sending the police into schools to educate must be a priority (I live in a low-crime area, but the only police officer we've had in school to talk to us is to talk about 'nicking a Mars bar'. However, I'll admit the police are very visible; my school is on multi-sites, with various site entrances, and police officers are freely able to walk in at any time and walk around at breaks, talking to students; when they're not here during breaks, they're on bikes patrolling the town.).

It's not as bad as it's hyped up to be, especially if you're of a Daily Mail persuasion. The government is already doing plenty - the introduction of Police CSO's has worked really well, and they are actively stopping the gun trade in the UK.

  5. TDN first heard of a game called Neopets: Codestone Quest when it was first leaked onto Russian download sites a few weeks ago.

Well, now it's officially been announced! MumboJumbo (link - a leading developer of casual games has today released a playable demo of their latest development, Neopets: Codestone Quest. We're currently unsure just how supported it was by Neopets.com, but we're sure to hear more soon.

    264655_thumb.jpg

The game will be released September 19 at a recommended price of $19.99 to retailers. The playable demo is downloadable now at 22.1MB.

"In Neopets: Codestone Quest, as players embark on the Codestone Quest for Oswoc, they find themselves caught in the middle of a battle between Balthazar and the Faeries. In order to obtain the Codestones, they must first stop the evil Balthazar on his own quest to capture all the Faeries. Players must strategically launch colored Faeries towards the same-color moving jars to match three and free them from their prison."

From what we've gathered, the game will be avaliable to download online (when released in full).

To play the demo, download it from GamersHell here.

  8. It's obviously a very pressing issue (one that, in the West, only really got light when two were killed). Thankfully, I saw this morning that the hostage situation is coming to an end.

Despite the good news, the terrorists have won; it's evident that hostages really are effective ways of getting what you want. At the end of the year, South Korea will withdraw it's 200 troops, and ban Christian missionary work in Afghanistan by it's nationals. The latter helps combat poverty; without them, the country can't possibly survive.

As for 'how do I feel', I feel like I hope most people do; hostages really aren't the right way to end a situation.

For those not quite in-the-know about this, click here.

  9. I wasn't online yesterday, but I don't think it's been down yet. ;)

Stephi, I believe that having a page up isn't possible (you'll get an error default to your browser that says it can't connect). If we were able to put up an error message (that we've created, with links etc.) then we might as well keep the whole site up ;) Unfortunately, it's not possible - we can't put up custom pages (nor edit the site) during the move.

    - Viacom hires Take-Two director to oversee gaming -

Viacom has hired former Take-Two managing director, Arwed-Ralf Grenzbach, to head up it's interactive and video games - the sector of the company which Neopets falls under. (It won't make a blind bit of difference to Neopets, but we thought we'd mention it. :) Take2 owns Rockstar, producers of the Grand Theft Auto series.)

    - The Daily Neopets Service Announcement -

If you've yet to hear, TDN will be down for up to three days (depending on your location) whilst we move hosts. The forums will be online, accessible at http://www.tdnforums.com and normal FCA and Neopets News will be posted there. :)

  12. Hey :)

That's a bit annoying; things like that can happen with BBCode (as it simply replaces HTML). Ian'll look into it.

I'd also suggest that you might want to read over this topic, which deals with signatures. Your black spoiler - whilst a good idea - can be construed as a little obtrusive. Perhaps it might be better on a 'Word Games' topic, or somewhere similar? Or perhaps try and encode your message in another way - Pig Latin, for instance? :P

  13. The storyline was lame in the first one, too, but I still loved it :P It's not premiered in Britain yet, but I'll get my mitts on it soon =D

Saw some clips in an interview Zac Efron (love him. *nods*) gave to Rolling Stone, looks good. All bouncy. :)

  14. Someone might want to give their opinion on a Neopets colour, for example, and not really want to go registering on the forums (and handing over their email address, etc.) - yet that doesn't meant they shouldn't have the chance to give that opinion.

We're opening it on just the Neopets news to make it easier for guests to post without the hassle of resgistering and logging in. :)

  15. Hello forum members,

We're now allowing guests to post replies to our Neopets News forum. This may lead to an increase in 'spammy' posts - if you spot anything, please alert a moderator or file a report. We'll check as soon as possible.

We're hoping that the test run of this scheme leads to an increase in Neopets news discussion, and integrate our guests a little more into the site.

If you have any further suggestions, contact the Content department here.

In addition, the staff would like to point out that some scheduled forums maintenance is due to take place over a few hours in the next few days (exact date/time to be confirmed). At this time, the forums are likely to be turned offline for a period.

    Many thanks,

    The Daily Neopets Staff

  17.

I thought the whole Battle for Hogwarts thing was absolutely awesome. I loved just how they were running around, and McGonnagall was fighting someone here, and Slughorn someone else over there. The Ravenclaw Tower bit was interesting, too; the idea of an intellectual question to get in was really quite nice (I wouldn't have thought of it).

I was totally quite freaked out with the part in Godric's Hollow, with the dead historian and all that. Freaky. Very well-written. I also enjoyed various little parts when they were travelling Britain; t'was good.

Snape's memories were good. It's interesting to see him growing up; and it really does put the whole idea of 'love' into perspective, methinks.

I wasn't a fan of some of it, mind. The deaths were skimmed over too quickly - especially for Lupin and Tonks, we needed more. Dobby had a well-written death, mind. Also, Lord Voldemort's saying "he ran away"...I don't know, I've always seen him as - despite a vindictive murderer - someone who would treat his biggest enemy to an evil death, sure, but not lie to everyone about it. It just needed to be worded a little different. Also, his death was a bit...bleh. Just, the ending of the book needed 'more'. I was proud of Neville, though, standing up to him at the end.

Oh, and I didnt care much for Aberforth. He's actually a damn big character, really, and he should've been introduced earlier in the series a tad more, I'unno. The 'Dumbledore story' side of things was nice, but going into the whole Grindelwald thing so much was...blehh. We needed it a bit more spread out. (I must say though, his death in Nurmengard prison was very good; I could picture it all happening vividly.

Uhh...what else. Oh, Gringotts break-in was good. Liked that. And, the epilogue? Wasn't a fan. 'Albus Severus' Potter?! I mean, SERIOUSLY?! T'was overly clich. Would've liked to have seen more on the rest of the characters lives, though - McGonnagall, Luna Lovegood, Slughorn, the Dursleys, etc. JK did give an interview on it, but we needed it in the book. =P

    Very good book though. :)
