1. Yep, the WAM Celebration Cup qualifying round has begun. In other words, sign-ups start today! The qualifiers will last until Sunday, July 4th (which happens to be the last day of the official Altador Cup).

To sign-up and try to qualify, just find our board on the Altador Cup chat of the Neoboards. It should have Warfs in the board title.

Then, follow the instructions on the board and play your first five games of the WAM Celebration Cup!

For more information about qualifying and the WAM Celebration Cup in general, please refer to the official petpage.

    Good luck to all participants!

We apologize for our failure it preventing any more Meepit-page-stealing. Although we had discovered the Meepit plot to prevent this broadcast from reaching all of you, both I and Noog were captured in an attempt to invade the Meepit headquarters. Do not worry, though, we were both able to escape from the well that they threw us in (and we're sorry to report that we did NOT find that new avatar). However, soon after our escape, they recaptured us on the way back to TDN headquarters and tossed us into a passing circus caravan, but that's a story for another day.

Today is the very last day of the Double Round Robin stage, a last chance for a couple teams to sneak up and steal a spot in another tier. Hence, all teams are playing hard today, so it would not be surprising to see unexpected wins. It seems, though, based on the results, that many teams played extra-hard yesterday to secure a spot in their respective tiers.

The teams in the top tier don't seem to be willing to give up their spots anytime soon, though. Kreludor keeps its hold on the top placing (with Lost Desert, Darigan Citadel, and Roo Island close behind) after a decisive win against Kiko Lake yesterday, winning Yooyuball and two of the sidegames. Although the Kikos lost as predicted, kudos still goes to them for taking the win in Slushie Slinger despite all odds.

Roo Island and Darigan Citadel had a very interesting match yesterday, with predictors leaning toward a win for Darigan Citadel. Roo Island, though, pulled through and defeated the Darigans with wins in both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, thereby securing its spot in the top tier. Although Darigan Citadel's loss will not have a significant effect on the teams in the top tier, the match proved that Roo Island is a force to be reckoned with this year. Will they overcome the "winner's curse" and become the first team to ever win two Altador Cups, or will their success dwindle in the finals?

Meridell, currently in fifth place at the top of the second tier, managed to pull off a Yooyuball draw against Lost Desert, the second-place team. Although the match ended with an overall loss for Meridell (after winning only Shootout Showdown), few people had expected Meridell to hold its own against the powerful top-tier team.

Looking toward the second tier, Meridell is keeping its hold on fifth place, as mentioned earlier. Krawk Island also holds its second tier spot, especially after its decisive win against Altador, only drawing in Slushie Slinger. Virtupets, on the other hand, pushed Maraqua down the standings with wins in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown.

Many people suggest that the Maraquans have given up, but the mermaids say otherwise. Regardless, after Kiko Lake's surprising win the other day, Maraqua's chances of reaching the top tier vanished, apparently along with many of its supporters. Thus, Haunted Woods, at the top of the third tier in ninth place, has a chance today to pull into the second tier if it wins most of the four games against Brightvale today after the near-sweep of Shenkuu. Maraqua, on the other hand, has to match or beat Haunted Woods's performance during its match against Faerieland. With these two teams struggling for the second-tier spot, many people (ghosts and fish alike) wonder who will come out on top.

Terror Mountain surprisingly swept Brightvale yesterday, walking away with motivation for today's match and a chance at keeping twelfth place. With a match against Altador today, Terror Mountain must repeat this success if it wants to keep its third tier placing away from Brightvale. This may also be Altador's only chance to stay out of seventeenth place (and the fifth, bottom tier). Tyrannia held similar results as well, sweeping Faerieland as well and securing its third tier spot.

Shenkuu, back in its usual eleventh place, showed its usual ability to prevent getting swept yesterday. Being against Haunted Woods, the ninjas were able to sneak off with a draw in Make Some Noise.

Last but not least, Mystery Island won its match against Moltara as predicted, but the Moltarans pulled off a win in Make Some Noise, defying most of the predictions. Moltara is locked into the bottom fifth mini-tier, but Altador and Faerieland continue to battle it out to stay out of seventeenth place. Both teams face tough matches, so who will be in seventeenth once the smoke clears?

Matches to watch today? Haunted Woods versus Brightvale, Faerieland versus Maraqua, and Terror Mountain versus Altador promise influential results. On this last day of Altador Cup V's Double Round Robin stage, these three matches may prove to be the most important of the entire Cup thus far.

As usual, good luck to all teams today! This is Grant (no longer in the circus caravan), reporting from Altador, signing off for what may be the last time.

  3. The WAM Celebration Cup is an Altador-Cup-like event that takes place AFTER the actual Altador Cup. However, signups (and the qualifying rounds) are about to start! Chances are that the qualifiers will officially start either later today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out for a WAMCC board on the Altador Cup chat of the Neoboards!

People of ALL TEAMS are welcome; the only requirement is that you know how to play Yooyuball.

The winner of the actual tournament round will receive the Hughlis Cup, pictured below.

As the Double Round Robin stage comes to a close, many teams continue to pull off upsets that few people expected. Krawk Island, for instance, a currently second-tier team, was able to pull off draws in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise yesterday against top-tier team Kreludor. Many had expected these former champions to lose everything but a sidegame or even get swept, but the pirates still proved us wrong. With a match against Brightvale today, will these buccaneers build on their success with a sweep, or will it prove to be just a fluke? Regardless, kudos to the pirates for their performance, even if they still lost overall.

Faerieland surprised predictors even more, pulling off a Yooyuball draw against Virtupets, a team known for its Shootout Showdown and Yooyuball prowess. Known for its low placings in previous Cups, Faerieland might just be able to prove itself to be better this year, especially in light of its recent Yooyuball win against Altador. Although they are against Haunted Woods, one of the higher ranking teams, they may be able to pull off another draw in Yooyuball or at least a sidegame. Good luck to the faeries in proving predictions wrong once again today!

Meridell, the fifth place team that was recently pushed out of the top tier by Roo Island, also proved predictions wrong yesterday. Winning Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown against top-placing team Darigan Citadel, the knights prove that there is still hope for them ending the Double Round Robin stage with a spot in the top tier. However, Meridell is still pitted against third-placing team Kreludor today. Based on Kreludor's recent Yooyuball draw and Meridell's surprising win, no one can know for sure if Meridell will repeat its success or show its fatigue from yesterday's match.

Kiko Lake, Altador, and Moltara all showed their usual Slushie Slinger upsets as well against Shenkuu, Mystery Island, and Roo Island, respectively. Shenkuu and Mystery Island proved that they have not given up all hope yet, with Mystery Island fighting its way out of the fourth tier and Shenkuu finally keeping out of 11th place. Shenkuu might just upset Roo Island today after its motivational win. Roo Island, on the other hand, won Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown as usual. Kiko Lake, Altador, and Moltara all face tougher teams today, and all three of their opponents remain wary of their slushie slinging success.

Lost Desert pulled back into second place with a full sweep against Brightvale, trying to secure its spot in the top tier. Many foresee it sweeping again today against Altador, but the tournament founders still have the ability to pull off sidegame upsets. However, any decisive win should keep it out of third place since Kreludor must face the strong Meridell today. As the second-most predicted team to win the Altador Cup (after Shenkuu), the Lost Desert should continue to prove its worth with wins through the end of the Double Round Robin stage and play in the finals for the Cup itself.

Maraqua also pulled off an upset in Shootout Showdown yesterday, while losing Make Some Noise (practically the only sidegame it was predicted to win). Many people expected it to win in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise while losing Slushie Slinger (its "weakness") and Shootout Showdown against Terror Mountain, the team famed for its previous Shootout Showdown streak. Maraqua proved everyone wrong yesterday with winning all the games but Make Some Noise, but its chances of ending in the top tier slowly dwindle, barring three sweeps in the days to come against Kiko Lake (today), Faerieland, and Virtupets. Do the fishies have it in them to finish in "piranha mode" like last year, or will they be forever doomed to second tier?

Last but not least, Haunted Woods was able to walk away with a Yooyuball win and a Shootout Showdown draw against Tyrannia, even after unexpectedly getting swept by Maraqua the other day. Although getting into the top tier is nigh on impossible, Haunted Woods still has a good chance of securing a spot in the second tier (as currently being at the top of the third tier). Tyrannia, on the other hand, is now stuck in 11th place (Shenkuu's previous position), but they should be able to stay in the third tier until the finals.

Matches to watch today include Meridell versus Kreludor, Shenkuu versus Roo Island, and Mystery Island versus Tyrannia. Very few teams except those in the top five have a chance of getting into the top tier, but it is up to them to continue to pull off unexpected upsets like yesterday and climb the standings as high as possible. Who knows, they may even exceed expectations and get higher than anyone thought possible. Only time will tell.

As usual, good luck to all teams today! This is Grant, spying in the Meepit headquarters reporting from Altador, signing off.

  5. OK, I was told I could be an interviewer... But nobody can/will tell me how I am supposed to interview. Do I neomail the pesron a bunch of questions, and expect them to respond back, and then write a report? Or what? Please help!!! :graduated:

    Ah, sorry for the delay.

We're having a bit of issues at the moment since the WAM Celebration Cup organizer seems to have vanished for a couple days.

Don't worry, though, someone should contact you with an explanation of your duties sometime next week.

We apologize for the delay in the report again; it seems that the Meepits have invaded our broadcasting station, eaten all the cables, hired undead monkeys to throw purple bananas... Nah, just kidding. It's still storming outside of Altador, so our broadcasts are being interrupted.

As the second round of the Double Round Robin tournament begins to come to a close, many teams continue their struggle to speed into the top tier. The top tier teams are also under attack, facing draws and upsets here and there while struggling to keep their positions. One of the most interesting matches, though, was Haunted Woods versus Meridell. Meridell was predicted to nearly sweep, but the Haunted Woods team was able to turn the tables and land a decisive win, ending with draws in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown while winning both of the other sidegames, Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. Although Haunted Woods still dropped a place in the standings, it prevented Meridell from getting back into the top tier.

Like the other day, Mystery Island, Kiko Lake, and Altador were all able to hold their ground and prevent sweeps. Mystery Island won Slushie Slinger against Krawk Island as widely predicted but lost all the other games. Mystery Island continues to drop down through the standings, landing almost permanently in 14th place, with a large margin between itself and Faerieland, which holds fifteenth. Krawk Island, on the other hand, may stand a chance to overtake Meridell for fifth place later in the Double Round Robin if Meridell faces more losses.

Kiko Lake held similar results, staving off a sweep with a win in Slushie Slinger against Roo Island (as predicted). Roo Island continues to climb the standings with its current spot in fourth place, part of the top tier, but it still has yet to face many of the high-ranking teams for the second round. Many speculate that the Roos will be able to pull through as well, staying in the top tier until the end of the Double Round Robin stage, but some others fear that Roo Island faces a bleak future. With enough motivation, the Roos might just be able to do it. However, Roo Island is pitted against Meridell today, so this may be Meridell's chance to make a comeback.

Altador also won Slushie Slinger in its match yesterday against Maraqua. Maraqua's victory enabled it to hop...er...swim into the second tier with a weak eighth place. As a predicted powerhouse, will Maraqua continue its climb and sneak back into the top tier? As Maraqua creeps up behind Virtupets and Krawk Island, the schedules might have finally turned in its favor. Virtupets and Krawk Island must face each other today, so this may be Maraqua's chance to steal another place with its match against Moltara today.

Only two sweeps occurred yesterday, with Kreludor devastating the Moltarans and Brightvale, sweeping for the second time in a row, defeating the Faeries. With this, Kreludor was able to take back its first place spot from Lost Desert, since Lost Desert only managed to win Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, while drawing Slushie Slinger and losing Shootout Showdown altogether against Tyrannia, one of the teams strong in sidegames. Both teams face somewhat-hard matches today, though, as Lost Desert must face Haunted Woods (which, of course, just defeated Meridell) and Kreludor must take a turn against Tyrannia. Losses in these two matches could potentially scramble the placings in the top tier.

Brightvale, with its two consecutive sweeps, may be able to continue creeping up on Terror Mountain. With an extra motivational boost, it might also be able to pull off a win against Mystery Island today. Also, Terror Mountain faced a defeat yesterday against Virtupets, losing every game except Shootout Showdown. Kudos still goes to them, though, as they flaunt their perfect win streak in Shootout Showdown. Many people think that this may become the only perfect game streak in the history of the Altador Cup.

Back to Darigan Citadel, it successfully defeated Shenkuu (the predicted Cup champs) yesterday with wins in everything but Shootout Showdown. Darigan Citadel holds its ground, too, in the top tier, and it stands a chance to take the first place spot with a match against Faerieland today, taking into consideration Lost Desert and Kreludor's matchups. Shenkuu's match against Altador may also be a chance to rise in the rankings, possibly overtaking Tyrannia and getting out of eleventh place.

Interesting matches today are probably Lost Desert versus Haunted Woods, Roo Island versus Meridell, Krawk Island versus Virtupets, and Kreludor versus Tyrannia. With many possible standings changes for many teams, this may be the chance for some of the lower teams to prove their worth. Second tier teams, though, are scrambling to find a foothold in the first tier before the Double Round Robin tournament comes to a close, finding extra motivation in that hope.

As usual, good luck to all teams today! This is Grant, reporting again from the outskirts of Altador (while trying to avoid the Meepits storm), signing off.

  7. Thank you for the compliment! Actually, I just finished updating it this morning.

And Hannah, are you sure that you have submitted valid sidegame scores? For instance, if you scored under 285 points in Slushie Slinger and sent your score, it would show up as having a game played, but it would not count toward your ranking. So, you need 100 Slushie Slinger games to reach rank 1. If you were to send 100 Slushie Slinger games with scores of 100, it would show up as having 100 Slushie Slinger games played, but you still wouldn't be at Rank 1.

For Prize Shop points, you earn 12 points per Yooyuball game, 6 points per valid Slushie Slinger game or Yooyuball draw, and 1 point per valid Shootout Showdown or Make Some Noise game.

We apologize for the delay in the report today; we have been having broadcasting issues due to unfavorable weather conditions outside of Altador.

With over half of the Double-Round-Robin stage almost over, many teams are struggling to find a spot in the top tier, while those already in it fight to keep their positions and race to the top. Most notable of these teams is Lost Desert, which recently lost its top spot in the standings. Lost Desert was able to make a comeback yesterday with a near-sweep of Faerieland, taking back its glory from Kreludor. Will they be able to hold it throughout the rest of the Double-Round-Robin stage, or will they lose it again to Kreludor and the like? With its recent stunning losses to Maraqua and Roo Island, the upcoming seven days may hold a multitude of surprises, especially with its match against Tyrannia today, a team famed for its sidegaming abilities.

    lostdesert_group.gif

Kudos goes to many of the teams in the lower tiers today. Mystery Island, Kiko Lake, and Altador were all able to pull off a Slushie Slinger win, preventing themselves from getting swept. As mentioned, Faerieland earned itself a draw in Shootout Showdown against Lost Desert as well, keeping its fifteenth-place spot away from Kiko Lake. Hope steadily dwindles for the bottom four teams as the tournament progresses, with all four of them attempting to stay out of the last tier.

Brightvale was able to pull off the only sweep of the day in its match against Moltara, barely overtaking Mystery Island for thirteenth place, the top of the fourth tier. "I'm glad that the team was able to pull through yesterday," Brightvale captain 'Squeaky' Tressif said, "We were able to win with a sweep, avoiding losses or draws in any sidegames. This was the result of great teamwork, and I hope that we can repeat our success against Faerieland today."

Maraqua faced another draw in Yooyuball and losses in all three sidegames against Darigan Citadel, a repeat performance from its previous match against Kreludor. After dropping to ninth place, many Maraquans point to their unfortunate schedule - matches against the three top teams one after the other. After their win against Lost Desert the other day, it may be hard to tell if it was fatigue or not. With matches against most of the top teams already over for the second round, they may be able to rush back up through the standings and into the first tier. They are aiming for a sweep against Altador today, and hope may not have run out for them yet.

Roo Island's decisive victory against Altador yesterday allowed it to stay at the top of the second tier, and Meridell faces increasing pressure to keep its first tier spot after having similar results against Mystery Island. With Roo Island against Kiko Lake and Meridell against Haunted Woods today, Meridell must be careful about Haunted Woods's well-known upsets if it wants to stay ahead of Roo Island. Haunted Woods, on the other hand, has a chance, albeit slim, to pull ahead of Krawk Island in the standings if it wins this match. This may prove to be one of the most interesting matches today as well.

Other interesting matches include Virtupets versus Terror Mountain and Darigan Citadel versus Shenkuu. Virtupets and Terror Mountain, two teams known to be good at Shootout Showdown, battle it out today. Virtupets is predicted to win the match, losing Shootout Showdown of course, but Terror Mountain may just be able to pull off an upset, if not just a sidegame sweep, as it holds it's perfect Shootout Showdown streak. Only time may tell.

As for Darigan Citadel versus Shenkuu, Darigan Citadel must play hard today to prevent a draw in Yooyuball. This is mainly because of Shenkuu's unexpected draw against Kreludor yesterday, and some people expect to see another draw, or even a win, for Shenkuu today. As the team predicted to be the winners of this year's Altador Cup, this may be the time to start using it's vaunted "karma" to jump back out of the third tier. Darigan Citadel, though, cannot afford to lose this match if it wants to stay ahead of Meridell and Roo Island, with Meridell looking to take its third place spot and Roo Island looking to take its first tier spot altogether.

    darigancitadel.pngshenkuu.png

Two of the three islands, Krawk Island and Mystery Island, also battle it out today. After Mystery Island's recent losses and Krawk Island's recent rise in the standings, Dasher and his crew may sail away with the win if Mystery Island doesn't start pulling it together. Maybe, just maybe, with a win today, Krawk Island may be able to continue its rise in the standings and become the first ever team to win two Altador Cups in a row. Dasher was unavailable for comment.

As mentioned, everyone should keep their eyes on the matches of Darigan Citadel versus Shenkuu, Lost Desert versus Tyrannia, Meridell versus Haunted Woods, and possibly even Virtupets versus Terror Mountain. With many important matches today, will any of the "weaker" teams be able to pull off upsets? Though some of them may have no hope of reaching the top tier, they still must focus to hold their places and climb a bit higher.

As usual, good luck to all teams today! This is Grant, reporting from the outskirts of Altador, signing off.

  9. The WAM Celebration Cup is an annual tournament held after the official Altador Cup, a competition centered around Yooyuball, of course.

The qualifying round begins next week, and 40 people with high GPGs (average goals per game) will proceed to compete in the actual tournament after ACV. The winner takes home the Hughlis Celebration Cup, pictured below. Last year's winner was luckynorris123 of Maraqua, barely defeating HBK (a TDN staffer) of Krawk Island in the final round.

    hughliscup.png

First, though, we're going to need YOUR help. We need volunteers to help run the WAM Celebration Cup! Positions include interviewing participants, verifying scores, and more! The actual tournament will last two to three weeks after the Altador Cup (which ends on July 4th), and anyone available that's willing to help will be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering, please Neomail me!

    More information coming soon!

  10. Hello one and all! Jerry has hidden a Negg somewhere on TDN. The first ten people who find the Negg will each receive 100,000 neopoints! If less than 10 people find the Negg by April 4th, the winners will split the one million neopoint prize pool instead.

The Negg is easily visible on one of the pages of ANY TDN department (including Neoavatars, the main articles, etc.). All you have to do is click on the Negg to "find" it!

No, the page the Negg is on does NOT require typing something in (like, calculating something on a generator on TDN) and shows up on that one page 100% of the time.

The Negg is not a real Neopian item and is distinctly related to TDN. It has the word "Ian" printed all over it.

Unfortunately, we will not give you any hints to where the Negg is.

    Good luck finding it first!

UPDATE: So far, only one user has found the Negg. The user has asked to be named as "Jenni" so that she doesn't get a million neomails and such asking where the Negg is. Good luck to the rest of you! Nine more people can win!

UPDATE 2: Another user has found the Negg! By request, we will not display his username either, but eight more people can win! Keep searching!

  11. cash-shop-logo.png

Due to increasing costs of running the server, the ads we have no longer generate enough income to support the site. Therefore, we have made a partnership with Viacom to start selling TDN merchandise! 25% of the profits will go to Viacom, but the rest will be used to help support the site.

Of course, TDN will remain free to use, but the merchandise will cost real money. Visit the new Cash Shop for more information and to see the merchandise!

  13. Thanks much Ian.

I guess that means I really should change my password to both the forums and myTDN... especially since I have staff powers for the BP now.

You are extremely good for doing this.

Also, may I ask, what was that debug information doing down at the bottom of the forums pages for the last few days? o-o

    Oh, that's not just me for the debug thing? -whew- At first, I thought it had been there forever and that I just never noticed it. o_O;
