Interesting yes, but a miracle or a phenomenon?? Looks more like history to me. Then again I had never heard of them until you told me about them and I read about them on Wikipedia - link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazca_Lines

I believe in everything, but the type of magic a "wizard" would do. I believe in miracles and that there is life in other planets. It's also hard to prove what came before the universe and I believe in the after-life because of my religion and because we're simply not capable of understanding beyond the line. I'm not saying scientists don't play a role, but I think they only play the role of helping us understand life out there, for survival purposes. I don't think scientists will ever come up with the answer as to where the universe came from. The world couldn't have been just a blank piece of paper. People see ghosts, as in feel the presence of their loved ones or any other person. How come we can sometimes dream about what's going to happen? There is obviously a dimension, an afterlife out there that we will never be able to understand, not until we die.

My mom's friend's dad passed away years ago and she told my mom her dad used to love hummingbirds. After he died, my mom's friend was sitting at a cafeteria eating lunch and mind you, the are no hummingbirds in that area. All of the sudden a hummingbird flies inside and starts to fly right next to her. Can scientists explain that? Those little things make me believe there is an afterlife. One of my grandpas passed away when I was 1 year old. My mom told me he used to make faces and I would make this funny sound only when I was with him. When my grandpa passed away, my mom was with me in the kitchen and all of the sudden I was staring at something and making that funny sound. Then, she felt a strong wind passing right next to her. Moments later, she found out grandpa passed away. Can scientists explain that?

Anyway, crop circles are really interesting to me. There have been instances where people have recreated some in a night, but at the same time, I do think there's something to the phenomenon. I doubt that all of them were man-made, especially the ones of largest scale.

Ooh! What about the Nazca Lines? Now those are interesting.

It's very easy for a small group of people, with ropes, wooden planks, and a tid bit of organisation to create crop circles you know. It's just about geometry! I've seen some reports with demonstrations. It's really convincing.

All these paranormal "explanations" about UFOs, hypermagnetic fields, boiled cereals and so one are just stupid peoples trying to make themselves interesting and selling their books. Sorry, I don't want to be rude or insult anyone, but they are so pathetic. :sad01_anim:

And the explanation for the Nazca lines is identical. Crop circles are just modern nazca lines. :laughingsmiley:

First ones, archaeologists demonstrate that these beautiful figures can be made with basic knowledge in geometry, a stick and ropes. They were probably part of some rituals tempting to communicate with gods.

I am a man of science. I do not belive in magic. It was though up by people who wanted to have explanations for odd things that they did not understand then that we understand now.

Out of those choices I say I only believe in U.F.O's, Miracles, and The Afterlife. Ghosts eh... I'll believe it when I see it.

But we all know the Loch Ness Monster is real. :shiftyeyes_anim:

@ sky shadow - I really like your "scientist" attitude.

Why thank you. :)

I think you're making an incorrect assumption here - it's not a scientist's job to say "This is impossible because [insert opinionated theory here] but what you saw could be explained by [insert minutely plausible explanation here]." Sadly, many so-called 'scientists' today do this, but that's just not the way science works. There is nothing to say that the cases you mentioned could not have been interaction from people who have passed away. We just don't know much about that sort of thing, which is why science and scientists exist.

Science exists to learn about the universe and everything in it - gradually, we can come to learn enough to find a possible explanation for some phenomena. That, of course, opens up more things to look at and learn about. Many times, we learn that an old explanation or hypothesis was wrong - a scientist should accept this and work with it. A scientist who doesn't accept new ideas is, well, not a scientist.

What happens after death? Nobody is really certain of that. But a scientist, when trying to answer a question, has to be able to say "I don't know - let's find out more."

A lot of technology we take for granted now would be considered magic hundreds of years ago. I think there are a lot of things beyond human understanding or at least beyond our current understanding. Just because I don't understand something doesn't mean it isn't real. There could be spiritual beings and a spiritual realm and spiritual forces. Just because we can't explain it scientifically doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. There are a lot of things we don't understand. I think "magic" exists in the form of things that happen that we can't explain, basically. I don't think the faerie tale/fantasy definition of magic exists, though.

I agree with the your concept of spiritual manifestations (ghosts), but I'm not quite sure I agree with your concept of the after life. Maybe it's just that I don't understand exactly what is involved in the Egyptian afterlife. I personally would like to believe that the afterlife, if one exists, would be an extension our ourselves. Like from the movie "What Dreams May Come," with Robin Williams. I think I'd like that sort of afterlife. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but it sounds pretty good to me.

Being a giant skeptic of everything, I didn't really see a point in reading this thread...but then I saw the movie references, and I definitely do believe in movies ;p.

What Anime said reminded me of a movie that has stuck with me for a long time, After Life.

It's a really cute Japanese movie based on the idea that "heaven" is you reliving your favourite memory over and over :)

Similarly this thread reminds me of the book, "The Arithmetic of Life and Death" that I read a ton of years ago. Neat stuff too :)

This post reminded me of what my father always use to tell me, "magic is unkown technology".

I agree with your point that something that just because something can't be explained, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Although, I don't want to call something that exists "magic". For example, people call ghosts/spirits and weird stuff "magic" but since they exist, that stuff wouldn't be considered "magic" in my opinion. To me, "magic" is fantasy and fairy tales, stuff that doesn't exist, at least in our realm.

I believe in the afterlife, though it has nothing to do with magic, in my opinion. You're welcome to yours.

Witchcraft and the occult is real and I am against it. Miracles exist and are used by God through people or Himself to do things for His will.

Ghosts and the supernatural exist in the same way as the above.

...so...

Yes, I am Christian.

I believe in miracles!!! And I think it's possible that ghosts can come back and the supernatural can happen. Actually, anything is possible, even when it might not look like it...

You can't argue that magic doesn't exist, but you can't really argue that it exist. Either way it's a dead end until there is some evidence.

But I think this world have magic that are unknown. And it remains unknown for its reasons. It's like the old civillisations. It seems like they can do 'unearthly' things that would be seen as impossible. And we would think that if they could really do those things, then how come we don't? How come it's not like electricity, which we still know about?

Maybe it's because that they discovered that the powers could ruin the world and decided to destroy the evidence?

Magic could be anywhere and everywhere. Maybe it's so insignificant and 'normal' that we don't even notice it at all. Maybe magic is something we all take for granted and any other magic is just our greed of power?

We can speculate though ^^

I think magic like talking to the dead....hocus pocus...etc. all of that is not real. If there is a life after death, it makes more logical sense to me that its in a world that can't reach ours...like a one way door. ^^

I think the only type of magic there is the sort of power of will, mind over matter. But then thats not even magic, what is magic anyway? *shrugs* Love could be magic, its non-material...and yet its such a great force, not saying this is my view, just trying to put myself in the shoes of someone else. Anyway, back to mind over matter. How do people walk over hot coal(without any trickery)/survive near death experiences where they SHOULD have died..by the strength of their will, to ignore their bodily pain, and strive to survive. I think that is one of the only proven otherworldliness.

I'm sitting on the fence here. I think there is something out there, but I can't be sure. The same with magic, I'm not sure if it's real, but how can you tell?.. It's a bit hard lol.
