Firefox Help?

Hey everyone, I'm new to TDN. I came across the website while trying to figure out how to solve some issues I'm currently having with Firefox. I'm hoping someone here can help!

I've been using Firefox for more than a year now, and I haven't had any issues with it until about 3-4 months ago. I'd noticed it initially with Facebook, where some applications just wouldn't load. However, as Facebook didn't have many annoying ads, I used IE only when I wanted access to the specific applications.

Yesterday, though, I started having trouble with Neopets =/ I hadn't been on Neopets for about 2 weeks prior to that, and when I'd logged in yesterday, I was just having a look at the new features. I then decided to play a few sponsor games, and that's when I ran into a problem. The games don't load in a new pop-up window anymore (I'm assuming this has to do with the revamp), which is all well and good...except the games just don't load. At all. They work fine in IE, but all I get is a blank screen, where the game should have loaded, in Firefox.

Does anyone have any idea on what I can do to fix this? Please let me know if you need more information. Sorry to be such a bother :guiltysmiley:

Cheers!

Edited to add

PS: I think it has something to do with the combination of Javascript and Firefox...tricky thing is it's problematic only for some web pages. Of course, I could be completely wrong!

You said you didn't have the problem until a couple months ago, correct? If that's the case, it's possibly an update for FF that is causing the issue. While I, too, use FF, I've not once encountered this issue. >_>;;

Oh, I have this issue with IE, though. I reset it to its defaults, and now Neopets is junk! v_v;;

Thanks for your reply! =D

Yep...What I'm not sure about though is if:

a) Neopets' new "game loading in same window" that's the problem, or

b ) Firefox's new update causing the problem, or

c) Java's new update that's causing it.

Thinking back, some Facebook applications on Firefox just didn't load...which is when I switched to IE just for Facebook. Other sites were generally fine, although I remember having problems with the Apple site, and some OVID websites (the pdf file wouldn't load in the same window). The issue seems to be (and I could be wrong), when some websites display a pdf, or javascript-based, link in the same window. I just see a blank screen, with the status bar telling me "done"...and it's not. It gets a little frustrating because I really do like Firefox and would like to be able to use it for my web browsing.

It's strange how I'm the only one who seems to be experiencing this though..?

I don't know. If that were what was going on for me, I'd just uninstall and reinstall FF, and then go on an update rampage. After getting the FF updates squared away, I'd then install Java and Quicktime and all that other happy stuff. :wink: But, that's just how I handle things, since I've the patience of an internet tech support representative (because I am). ^_^

To my knowledge none of the patches checked in for the recent Firefox updates would have messed up your Javascript in any way. I suggest that you try making a clean Firefox profile and then import your bookmarks and/or reinstall your extensions (faster than reinstalling the entire browser but with the same overall effect). This page section has instructions on how to go about doing the profile change.

You're welcome! :D

I just remembered one thing though - if the problem has something to do with your specific settings (corrupted configuration files, etc.) then just reinstalling the browser won't work, since Firefox 2 doesn't remove your old profile information during the uninstall. If you do want to reinstall the browser, then you'll have to create a clean profile as well. :yes:

On a side note, have you tried loading the games in safe mode to make sure it isn't a problem with any of your extensions? Just go to "Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)" if you're in Windows.

I did the clean profile method you'd suggested, and it works!! =D The games on Neopets work, the applications on Facebook work...everything works!

Thank you so very much for that *beams*

Just a question before I stop being a pest...should I delete the old profile, or just leave it?

If you've already gotten everything that you want to keep from your old profile, then you can go ahead and delete it. :yes: Firefox settings do occasionally mess up due to corrupted update files, etc. so it may be a good idea to create a fresh profile if you ever run into similar problems.

Great - I didn't know it would be so simple =)

Cheers once again!

Just another reason why Firefox is awesome. :yes: Now if it had been IE that had messed up, the fix would have been much more complicated...
