There is always an alternative.

-Shoot but miss him closely, he may get worried.

-If he doesn't stop, shoot in a non-fatal area. (try for the arm he is holding the gun in, That way, shoot him arm, he will feel the pain, and by reflexes, he will drop the gun

-If he still carries on, THEN shoot him, Though prepare for some jail time.

Well then, I think it best that when it comes time to shoot someone, se go fast. Show no weakness! Give 'em no mercy! yeah okay, maybe by doing that you could end up in prison faster and for a longer time. But... eee....yeah. I confused myself again. I really need to stop doing that.

Though, I'm just saying, If you do shoot them, you will end up in jail for at least 5 years (maybe up to 20)

They won't take it easy on you if you say "I was protecting my family"

Easy way to do it.

Man is holding

the gun in his left hand.

Shoot him left arm/shoulder/hand.

he will deffo drop the gun due to the blood/pain.

Person he was aiming to shoot run and kick the gun away from him.

Then you rugby tackle him, get some rope, and call the police.

You should at least stay with the guy, but make sure that he is in now position to hurt anyone. If they see you stayed with him and at least attended ot his wound, they might give mercy. And when you call the police, make sure they bring the ambulance. For his arm/hand/shoulder.

Yeah, and if you want to just incapacitate him, you shouldn't shoot the shoulder if possible - there's a major artery going through it...

Still, I would shoot to kill, even if there was a prospect of jail time.

I was thinking and I respect your opinion so don't think I'm trying to change it in anyway. Well, if you think about it, you're trying to defend your family member against a robber. You shoot to kill, then you go to jail. Who would protect them, then? Wouldn't the fact that you're in jail make them feel sad? I say, if you can avoid the jail time, don't shoot to kill. I'm sure they will have mercy on you if you end up killing the bad guy, IF they see you tried everything to escape.

Just a thought.

I understand what you're talking about completely. However, I could never live with myself if somebody I cared about died and I could have done something but didn't. It's what I would feel personally.

I can respect both views, but I have to agree with Theo, more. I mean, just think that if you pull a gun and try to scare him/her off, they'll aim at a family member, until you put down the gun. Then, everyone becomes a hostage. Doesn't matter how many movies you've seen, nothing can truly get you out of this, if no one knows you're in danger.

I belive killing is horrible no matter the circuimstances, I would shoot them in the arm, then they would fall on the ground and I would then call an ambulence to pick them up and rush them to the hospital, but if he died in the hospital, I would not consider it an unforgivable sin.
