“The King is dead!†howled through the royal forests.

“The King is dead!†echoed amongst the mountains.

The cities and towns rung with the cry, “The King is dead!â€

The land was flooded by the cry of: “The King is dead!â€

However one place did not ring with that cry. Nor did it echo or moan. It was whispered, like a dark secret.

“The King is ….â€

“How many times must I hear that Guthrum is dead?†screamed a voice. “How many times must I torture you to stop telling me that?â€

“But Madame, he is…â€

“A bloody fool. How many bloody times must I bloody tell you not to say that?†it screamed wildly.

“I’m sorry Madame!! No, not that anything but that! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!†screamed a blubbering servant, to the whirr of machinery and the screams of pain.

“You see, pray, all you creatures are mine by right, and you’ll see, what you have I shall take from you. I shall steal your Stole.†As a fur skin lay at the jewelled red slippers and ruby satin dress of the speaker, who turned, laughing maniacally, leaving the fur skin at the floor.

“Feed the body to the hounds. They’ll need it to search out more ‘customers’.†Laughed the woman, walking away, leaving the guards, giant rats and weasels pick up the body to drag to the Hound pit, turning the lifeless weasel away from the woman with a foxfur trim red long cloak.

Inside, a large ‘office’ a raven sat perched on a wooden staff, asleep, waking when the woman entered the room.

“Asleep on the job Bertram? My, my, it won’t be long before you finish your days as a feather boa.â€

She paused. “No. Your feathers are too tatty for that. You shall be stuffed and put on the wall.â€

“Madame Rouge always had a dark sense of humour. What do you want of Bertram? News? Finances? Stock?†the raven asked.

The woman pulled out her chair, “What-ever you deem appropriate.â€

The raven’s face grew cold, “Well, this morning, I heard that King Guthrum is dead.â€

“I already know Bertram!†Madame Rouge screamed so furiously that Bertram fell off his post.

“How many Bloody times must I be told? Are you my conscience? The little nagging thing at the back of my head? King Guthrum is dead. Blah de Blah.†Belittled Madame Rouge. “I already knew- I killed the bloody wolf!†Madame Rouge’s black hair almost on fire.

The Peaceful village in the mountains was gently stirring; mothers were waking their children, Husbands, going to work in the fields and farms- but near the forest- a young girl of 15 by the name of Azura was daydreaming and making cloud-pictures. As she saw a particular cloud shape pass, a familiar face blocked her view- her friend Hurst. His ginger-brown hair was usually messy, but today it was neat and tied back - for once- which was a big deal for a woodsman.

Hurst’s deep brown eyes looked into Azura’s sparkling Blue eyes. No words were spoken, until, Hurst, sensing something, rolled them out of danger. An arrow imbedded itself in the ground, where they had been.

“I say, terribly sorry, Old Chap.†Wheezed a man who ran over to see the ‘damage’. “Oh, it’s you. What’re you doing here?†asked the culprit, a certain Sir Jikel, a high-ranking Pompous Idiot.

“I could ask the same question to you, Sir, Azura almost got hit by your arrow. You should be more responsible.â€

“Responsible? Hah!†he laughed, then his notched arrow accidentally flew off, imbedding in a tree, above a sleeping man’s head. “Sorry! I see what you mean Woodsman. Nevertheless, what were you doing here I wonder with Azura?†he pointed.

“Nothing happened!†hissed Azura.

Drawing her aside, Sir Jikel whispered, “I think you should stay away from him, he could be dangerous.â€

“Hurst isn’t like that.â€

“Either way, the Forest does strange things to people.†He walked off,

“So, why are you here Hurst?†asked Azura as Hurst saw Sir Jikel off.

“I wanted to show you the Mountain View. It’s very spectacular.â€

They both walked on to the mountain, but they were watched by golden eyes.
