The Gambia

My review, with limited detail.

Departed: 30th march. Arrived back: Last Sunday morning.

--- The Arrival ---

After landing and as you exit the Aircraft, the first thing that strikes you is the heat. Inside the aircraft it was already hot, we were all hoping for a cooling breeze to greet our first steps in Gambia but instead we just had burning hot, clammy, stillness...

We went to get our suitcases and then went to the coach. The airport was incredibly small but quite modern in the infrastructure. As we sat on the coach (with the rep doing a welcome speech) a horned cow came walking across the dusty carpark.. Everyone thought this was pretty hilarious as you wouldn't see it in England.

After half an hour in the coach we arrived at our accommodation. The Palma Rima Hotel. You enter by going down a long walkway covered by vines and flowers, which was really quite beautiful.

Our room was a bungalow room, 4 beds. One for me, another for my brother and the others for the mum & Dad. ^_^

The shower was pretty big and you get the experience of coldwater-nowater-warmwater all in the space of a minute each time you have a soak.

I drew the main pool area of the hotel, which I will scan into the computer.

All we basically ate at the hotel for dinner was rice and splintered chicken, though there was fish as well but I hate fish. The deserts are really nice, caramel and home-made cakes. =D

Breakfast was the standard cereal and fry-up.

I was surprised by how big the pool was. I spent most of my day playing water polo, and It really has improved my arm muscles.

I spent a summer working at a mission hospital in Ghana (western Africa), so I really enjoyed reading about your travels. I hope you loved your time there, and it changed your life as my journey changed mine!
