agrinwithoutacat
I work a job and a half (~25 hours a week as a cashier and 10 hours a week babysitting), and this weekend I am just going to be swamped! I babysit tomorrow morning from 7:30-12:45 and then I work from 4-10:30. I'll come home and immediately have to go to bed so I can be up to babysit again on Friday, and then go back to work from 5-10:30. And then I have to go to bed almost immediately again to be up at 7 to be at work by 9 on Saturday for an 8-hour shift. Then I have another 8-hour shift on Sunday. So, it's safe to say I'm not going to be seeing a lot of my friends and family for the next few days. I might not see my mom at all until Saturday except for a few minutes in the morning when we're both getting ready, because she won't be home from work Thursday or Friday until I'm already gone, and she'll be in bed when I get home at 11.I'm glad to have the work because it's money in my pocket (and the kid I babysit is really cute), but man is that a lot of hours.EDIT: They're trying to kill me. Just got my schedule for the week after next, and I'm working 35 hours plus babysitting. And they scheduled me so early on one day that I can't even get there from the house I babysit at in time (I told them I can't work until 2 at the absolute earliest on the days I babysit, and they scheduled me for 1:30). So now I have to find whoever makes the schedule and beg them to change it to 2:00, or else I have to find someone who works later in the day and will switch shifts with me.Being an adult is hard. Novelista
I'm already applauding you for working two jobs. I don't know how people do it, really. I once worked two or three days a week as a hostess and then another three working a mall kiosk. I got fed up with it pretty quick. (I also swung from the kiosk to Walmart a few months later, but that double didn't last for more than a week.)
circlette
Man, that's a lot on your plate! It's nice that the kid you babysit is easy to handle, I've never been super good with kids. I worked retail during the holiday season and it was NUTS. They had me working really random hours, waaay outside of my available times. And you can't say no, otherwise they'll just fire you.It didn't help that so many people were cranky and rude. Which is funny, since that's the time of year when people are supposed to be cheerful.Fortunately things have calmed down quite a bit and the people are nicer. ^.^
agrinwithoutacat
I survived! Boy, was that tiring, but now I finally get an evening to myself. Only two more days and then I get three days off. :) Man, that's a lot on your plate! It's nice that the kid you babysit is easy to handle, I've never been super good with kids. He's only a year old so we sit and play most of the morning. I've never worked during the holidays, that sounds like a nightmare. Although I have been working out in the garden center while everyone's gearing up for spring, so it's getting to be pretty busy out there. Plus, tons of flowers are on sale but it's not in the system, it just has a sticker on the pot, so I have to manually change the price for every single item. This weekend we have a lot of things either 25% or 50% off so I have to calculate and then change prices on those too. It's a hassle, especially when someone buys like 20 of something haha. It's not too bad since the babysitting is only two mornings per week, but when I have to do both jobs on both days it is hard. It becomes a 10-12 hour day with a break in the middle, and I don't get a lot of sleep because of the hours (I get home around 11 and have to be up by 6 the next morning). If I had to babysit and go to work every day I don't think I could do it!
