ineedalifeplease
I've been scanning through various articles and pages about this but I'm still really confused about how it all works... I've been zapping my pets and was just wondering what should happen if I get something I know is very popular, but maybe that I don't want? If anyone could explain the basics/rules in a way I understand I would be extremely grateful!!
010_pipsy_010
It is against the rules to trade neopets for np or neocash. You can either pound the pet or trade with another user for one of their pets if they agree. Otherwise you have to keep the pet on either your main or side account. That's my understanding of the rules and I hope that helps. :)
Batman
Trading pets takes a lot of patience. There are a bunch of good guides out there as to what pets are worth. I haven't tried to trade a converted pet in awhile so I am a little out of the loop on what is good and not but if you go to http://www.neopets.com/~x__loveable that was one of the ones I was using. The basics are you have to trade 1 pet for 1 pet so this means although you may have a krawk petpet attached to the pet you aren't offering on that and they have the right to remove it before the transfer occurs. Names are considered king in all trades if your pet has a bad name it will be very difficult to trade and when you do expect something under the species/color value to make up for the difference. Just make a board with your pet adding any lab stats that are worth while (I don't include anything unless the HSD is over 100) and bump until you are blue in the face. Other then that the same rules apply as other boards so no profanity etc. hrtbrk
patricebee
There are people who put their pet up for adoption (UFA on the boards) and don't take a pet in return. As long as you follow the rules mentioned by pipsy, it's not a problem. I am adopting a pet that I had almost four years ago when I had to quit neopets for a long while. I hated pounding her but I found her and wouldn't you know - she's been in the pound the entire time! So another user picked her up for me (I had used all of my trades for the month already) and will transfer her over to me this weekend. It is possible. Also there are people who do what you are doing. Zap a pet and if it turns out desirable, they adopt it out. Some do it for fun and because they like to make others happy. Just read around the boards The one who has my pet (http://www.neopets.com/~Gypcii) likes to get "stuck" pets out of the pound and adopt them out. They take nothing from others - just a 'thank you". That's fine according to TNT.
dawnshine
Trade for Trade or as above post mentioned you can just adopt it out. If you DO happen to get something along those lines and want to make someone's day I would just lurk the "Neopian Pound" board to trade or adopt it out. There are so many people on there looking for random types of pets. That is also where everyone goes once they have zapped a pet to tradeable perfection to request perhaps another pet they have been wanting but the lab hasn't graced them with. Like above posts have mentioned, if the name of the pet isn't up to par that is a big blemish on being able to trade it for another pet. So choose your names wisely(; No one on there should lead you astray in terms of the rules, too, because TNT would put the hammer down fast on anyone trying to scheme. Some people DO require you fill out a "form" to adopt their pet, although I think this a little tedious, I suppose it adds a very realistic element to the game. Furthermore, I've seen a lot of niche targeting with names and pets. Right now for instance there is a Desert Draik on the boards with a LoTR name, so someone who is a fan will probably end up swooping in on that one. That is just one example of marketing a pet for trade effectively. Hope this helps.
emily_speck_15
Also, make sure to transfer your pet. I one time saw a board saying that they would pound their pet and adopt someones pet from the pound. This is troublesome because you don't know if they will pound it or if someone may adopt the pet you want.
paperdoll66
Some things I wish someone had told me before I started: If you do not already have one, I would start a side account now. If you end up liking trading, you will want the extra freedom in the number of pets you are allowed. Accounts that are younger than four months have adoption and transfer limits that can be frustrating. Going off of x_lovable's guide, anything lower than Medium (not taking into account names) might take some time to trade. Depending on how dedicated you are to checking the boards, I would expect at least two weeks for a Medium Low pet. Zap Your Dream Pet is a good place to go if you want to give away pets. If you want to go this direction, I would limit yourself to zapping Well-Named pets. A lot of the requests specify the kind of name that they want. I like zapping badly (or even decently) named pets, but I almost always end up just putting up some advertisements and putting them in the pound. I would post pets you want to put up for adoption or trade here. Since I heard about it, this has become the first place that I go whenever I want to trade or adopt out a pet. It is much easier than going to the boards. Pound Chat is very friendly. I can only really think of two things I would recommend you not do: 1) insult a pet, 2) give your thread a misleading title. It is one of the friendlier sections of the boards. They are usually really great about answering questions, too. Always make sure you are certain before moving on to the next part of a trade. It can be really difficult, but I try to specify a timeline. If someone offers on one of my pets, I try to give myself a day to consider the offer and specify a time (NST) that I will have made my decision by. I think everyone that trades pets has at least one trade that they would undo if they could,
ineedalifeplease
thanks everyone, very helpful! But just a question, what is a 'good name' or a 'bad name'? assuming a bad name has a lot of numbers in? but what else?
Batman
There is some debate on what is considered a DN and BNed pet but here is a general guide line for it. Although as an example, I have a pet named xxxxxxxx_the_2nd according to this it should be BNed but I think it is more DNed then BNed. VWN = Very well named (ex: Xxxxxx)WN = Well named (ex. Xxxxxxxxx)DN = Decently named (ex. XxxxXxxxx, Xxxxx#, Xxxx_Xxxx, xxxxxxxx)BN = Badly named (ex. _xxxx##, xxxxx#######, xxxx_Xxx##)VBN = Very badly named (ex. ###xxx_#x, xxxx_xx####_)
