Rebecca~
I think this whole thing is dumb. They aren't the only company that supports the foundations. And they are allowed to use their money on whatever. I'm all for equal rights but if some company that sells chicken that I happen to like very much doesnt so what. Do you care about Mcdonalds stance on Obamacare or how Taco Bell feels about abortion. Its food not politics. Yes, I do care. I try to support companies that support things I care about- Christie's supports gay rights, as does Jc Penny and Target. I think it's important to see what your money is going to support. I rarely eat at fast-food restaurants anyway- most of the businesses within walking distance of me are small, family owned types ones, and they're all queer friendly (considering the neighbourhood, they wouldn't survive if they weren't). I love that about them, and it makes me want to support them. I chose my bank because of their policies. They actively work on making their workplace as diverse as possible, and they have instituted a living wage program so that all of their employees -- as well as all of the employees of companies they have contracts with -- get paid a living wage~ about 18$ an hour. Not everyone cares this much. But I do. If I am going to be supporting a company, I want to make sure that they're supporting ME.

Do you care about Mcdonalds stance on Obamacare or how Taco Bell feels about abortion. Its food not politics. You can't really say "it's food not politics" when you take into consideration that YOUR money is fueling THEIR interests. They're allowed to support whatever they want, yes; that's not the point. The point is that I'm not willing to compromise my personal beliefs and transitively harm my gay/queer friends by giving Chik-fil-a, and any other similar company, money to donate to those awful organizations and causes simply because they make a good chicken sandwich. Just because they're the ones in the hot spot right now doesn't mean that's the only business that people care about what they support. To use your example, if Taco Bell was actively donating to organizations committed to shutting down Planned Parenthood or something similar, then yes, I would not give them my business, either. Yes, I do care. I try to support companies that support things I care about- Christie's supports gay rights, as does Jc Penny and Target. Our money as consumers is influential; wherever you choose to spend it makes a difference.
