Can someone explain the Altador Cup?

I remember this from last year, but I didn't really understand what was going on. Everyone's raving about the AC, so can someone please explain to me how this works (especially about the teams)? Last year I joined The Lost Desert because I randomly clicked one and I had no idea what I was doing. Do you guys know what teams are more favorable than others? xD

You can click on the individual teams for more information about them, but most people just support the world they like the best. Bigger teams (one's with more supporters) generally have a better chance for winning.

Oh, thank you so much! This will really help :) Now I'm thinking about Krawk Island, Maraqua, or Darigan Citidale :) (but I'm probably going to choose Krawk Island)

The teams that have the best support from what I've seen on the main website boards are.

 

Tyrannia/Meridell/Faerieland/Mystery Island/Shenkuu

 

of course it's always a possibility that Past Champion Teams to reclaim the cup, this is highly unlikely. I picked the team based on the team captains strengths (I chose Meridell).
