Another Treasure Keepers question

I've read in several guides that the max skills level is 9. I have puzzle, reflex and combat skills all at 8. I've noticed that when I open TK and play a few games, my skills points go up, but if I close it and come back the next day those points disappear. It resets back to 3000 skill points, which is the beginning of level 8. Is this a glitch in my game or does it do that for everyone?

You might have to click the "save" button on the right. It looks like a floppy disk.
