Does it matter if they're not mine? If so, I'll post some decent screenies of the OS in action.

Well, sure go ahead, but there not that much you can post "in action" if you don't make it a video.

TJ, I'll post more soon if you state the area you want...(Internet, Control Panel, Games... :D

Edit: I have 3 new screenies for you showing some more funcionalities of Windows Vista! If anyone has more, please post as we love more screenies! :)

Here are the live feeds present in the new Windows Vista sidebar! My example is TDN's feed. Live news on the desktop without opening the browser! :D

Here is the new Games Explorer - all games are now rated and categorized.

This feature couldn't be forgotten - Windows Flip 3D. Introducing all your windows in a cascate style - fabulous.

I gotta admit the 3D thing is awesome; and the widgets. Literally, TDN right on your desktop.

I won't upgrade until later on in the year, when I can afford to. Dad's hyped up about bugs that are always found after a release, anyways >_>

Waiting at least 6 months after a new release is always a good idea. It gives other users time to find faults, make mods, and patches to be released.

BTW, that Inkball game is an exact copy of one my brother has on his Tablet, which he bought about two years ago. It's meant to use a PC's tablet function.

I have to say don't buy the upgrade, but the whole package and wait until sp2 comes out for Windows Vista. A lot of people are reporting problems with compability, some say their pcs freeze and such.

There are some compatibility issues, yes, as this is a very recent release and most developers haven't programmed their products to support Vista yet. However, if it crashes, it's more likely to be due to lack of RAM than the program itself.

(Samuel, I know that story, it's in my last grade's Portuguese book, I didn't know it had an English version! xD It is a story against racism.)

Vista is worth it... if you have a $3,000 computer.

Got the money, then get the best you mess of rich people.

lol

I'm not rich..we had to save up to buy this computer. This Dell Dimension E510 costs us around $1,400 and it's Vista Capable...I just don't want to be stuck with IE7 after the upgrade..($159 from Dell)

Don't buy a Dell...everyone knows not to buy Dells. They look flashy, but you could get the same stuff a lot cheaper elsewhere.

all you gotta do is find a local computer geek(if you dont have one as a friend already) and pay em $50-80 to build you a syestem(you buy the parts obviusly)

cheeper and better ^_^

i love haveing a computer geek for a bf..

Well, I have my Bro. And NZ does have a pretty decent supply of Asian geeks in all the PC/Tech stores advertised in the Chinese-language papers. For about $500 cheaper, I could get a way better system than a Dell. It wouldn't neccessarily have all the warranty and Helpdesk benefits, but the extra cash could get that.

best thing, instead of getting one all built, just go to a company who custom build pcs, i had mine custom built, alright can run decent amount of games etc, and it cost about £400 and thats with a year warranty.

pretrty good that there was a year warranty because it broke a couple of months ago, so had to get it fixed free by them

Another good thing is to get older software, or free shareware instead of paying for the same quality/marginally better stuff. Gimp is a good alternative to Photoshop, you can use Open Office instaed of Word and such, and Mozilla has some good alts.

You can talk, Bo, cosidering your collection of media. Go mess up your own Invisionfree forums.

Trust me, torrenting it ain't worth it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm getting a computer soon (ordered, coming Wednesday), which originally came bundled with Vista - which I was v. happy about. My dad, however, insisted that I get XP. I'm hoping that I can get it changed, provided that I don't change my mind.

Now. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Vista Home and XP Home? How do they stack up next to one-another?

Do you have it, or are you planning on getting it, and can your PC handle it?

1.) No

2.) Not sure,

3.) Yes it can.

Why does your dad insist for you to get XP? Vista is the new generation, although some people are reluctant to change. It's strange, because my move to Vista was smooth, and I love it.

Trust me, get Vista. Vista Home Premium gets you Media Center, the new spiffeh Aero theme, and lots more security features, not to mention all those OS enchancements. XP will just make you stay in our current time, which sooner or later you have to make the move - just like 2000 users did to XP 5 years ago. Also, it comes bundled with the computer, so you don't have to buy it separately like I did.

That's what I thought. But dad was reluctant to switch over because he was worried that drivers and programs wouldn't be compatible with Vista.

Oh, and I think it's just Vista Home Basic I'm getting. Do I still get Media Centre?

I had a ton of stuff typed out, left it then refreshed..

Basically, there are still tons of issues with IE7's compatability issues. It interferes with stuff like Adobe Acrobat, and many other programs, and there are still a whole lot of software patches needed. IE7 is still pretty easy to hack.
