"BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM THIS PIECE OF CRAP!" Five words, simple but compelling - that was what one of Darigan Citadel's Make Some Noise champions, known to a few as simply 'The Axe Man', had to say with regards to the outcome of their match against Krawk Island. After a gruelling twenty-four hours of some of the most intense Altador Cup action seen to date, the clash between powerhouses Darigan Citadel and Krawk Island came to a close with scores of exhausted fans on either side, yet both teams were still in good spirits as they exchanged their parting handshakes on the field, confident in the knowledge that they'd played with some of the most outstanding endurance, innovation, and raw skill in the history of Yooyuball. When the dust settled, it was the Krawk Island Pirates that topped the goal count however, claiming victory in Shootout Showdown, and sealing the match with a solid win in Yooyuball. Slushie Slinger was left at a draw, but the Citadel's supporters hit back hard in Make Some Noise, maintaining the only perfect winning streak achieved by any team in AC VI. "We can lose," Layton Vickles of Darigan Citadel stated frankly after the match, "it wasss about time we were reminded of that. Today's resultsss aside, I'm very sssatisfied with our performance in the match, and throughout thisss year. The Pirates played well. When we meet them again, it will be a worthy contest." The Citadel-Krawk match wasn't entirely uncontested for intensity however - elsewhere in the Colosseum, fledgeling powerhouse Virtupets crossed guards with Team Maraqua, only recently graduated from fledgeling status themselves. The Mermaids and the Robots engaged in yet another one of this year's incredibly close matches, matching each other goal for goal on the Yooyuball pitch, and ending the day perfectly level. It was the side games that decided the overall result for this match, with Virtupets supporters cheering their team to victory in Make Some Noise, but Team Maraqua gliding ahead in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, taking the overall win. With Darigan Citadel, Krawk Island, Maraqua, and Virtupets all engaged in tough matches, the door was open for other top-tier competitors to rack up some points and gain a foothold in the first tier. Kreludor, Terror Mountain and Tyrannia certainly took advantage of the opportunity, grabbing decisive victories over their respective opponents to vault themselves up the leaderboard. The Tyrannian Fossils thundered into the top spot after dealing a crushing defeat to Team Shenkuu, although the Ninjas weren't entirely worse for the wear, slipping away with a Shootout Showdown victory. Team Altador was able to do much the same, adding another Slushie Slinger win to their tally, but Kreludor still managed to take all the other games in the match, settling only a fraction of a point behind Tyrannia. The Mystery Island Natives had no such luck, as Team Terror Mountain swept them across the board to claim fourth place. Team Roo Island also managed a near sweep against their opponents from Brightvale, taking all but Slushie Slinger, which went to the Wizards and their highly efficient Slushie distribution network. With less than eight match points to their names however, tier one is looking a bit distant for both these teams, although there is still plenty of time to catch up should they manage to pull together a winning streak or two. Meanwhile, Meridell and the Haunted Woods were unable to settle their score in the day's match. Yooyuball and Make Some Noise ended dead even, and the overall result was left too close to call - the Knights powered smoothly ahead in Slushie Slinger, but were outperformed by the Zombies when it came to the penalty shootouts. Following standard tie-breaking policy during the tournament's round robin, a coin toss was attempted to decide the result of the match, but after one overenthusiastic fan managed to evade security and steal a number of coins in midair (cackling maniacally in the process), the Team Captains and the referee unanimously agreed to declare the match a draw. Team Faerieland garnered plenty of respect as a force to be reckoned with in the lower tiers yesterday, winning a commanding victory over Team Moltara. While the Moltarans weren't about to budge on Shootout Showdown, and in fact ended the day well ahead in Make Some Noise, the Faeries soared ahead in the remaining two games, settling themselves comfortably at the top of tier four (and in fact, not far from a tier three position). Team Kiko Lake, also a long-standing underdog team, fared well in their match against the Lost Desert, taking Shootout Showdown and Slushie Slinger, while drawing Make Some Noise. However, the Desert Marauders charged ahead with a strong Yooyuball game, coming away with their second Yooyuball victory of the season. Looking ahead to day ten of the tournament, most observers will have their eye on the match between Teams Darigan Citadel and Terror Mountain, two of this year's strongest top tier contenders, who just happen to be sitting right next to each other on the leaderboard. Also adjacent in the standings are Meridell and Krawk Island, who also have a match against each other slated for today. Team Meridell will be looking to repeat some of its previous victories against top-ranked teams (it's managed to defeat both Terror Mountain and Darigan Citadel earlier this year), but the Knights will have a tough time ahead getting past the wary Pirates. Elsewhere on the pitch, the ex-championship teams from the Haunted Woods and the Lost Desert, will be going head to head. Neither of these teams have yet managed to recover from the winner's curse, and it'll certainly be interesting to see if the Lost Desert can come out ahead of the Haunted Woods Zombies, heavily favoured by most analysts. Well, that's all for today. This is AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets, signing off. GLHF!
-Ryan
You know, when I said I wanted us to make the headlines, this isn't what I had in mind... T-T Still though, great match, Looking forward to round 2. KI is my favourite team to play against and theres no one i'd be less disapointed about losing to. Both KI and DC have amazing sportsmanship and I was really glad to see players from both teams talking on eachothers boards after the match and saying gratz, better luck next time, and good game. Krawk Citadel ftw! ^^ Seriously though, I dun know how we lost. 85k in YYB on the Minions board alone. I guess KI just fought a lot harder than we thought. :P
antiaircraft
You know, when I said I wanted us to make the headlines, this isn't what I had in mind... T-T But Ryan, I picked today's headline specifically for you! :( But yeah, it was a great match. xD This year is just full of surprises.
-Ryan
You couln't have made the headline be "Darigan Citadel continues winning-streak in Make Some Noise"? T-T Mmhmm. I am proud to say I hosted a YYB marathon that got more points than most foreign boards. b) Btw, anyone else impressed by FL this year? I've always loved the team, but I expected them to hit rock-bottem because of the plot.

antiaircraft
You couln't have made the headline be "Darigan Citadel continues winning-streak in Make Some Noise"? T-T Well then, if you can maintain that winning streak, you can expect that as a headline or sub-headline in an upcoming report. ;) Btw, anyone else impressed by FL this year? I've always loved the team, but I expected them to hit rock-bottem because of the plot. Faerieland rocks, and I'm not surprised to see their hard work paying off this year. Hopefully they'll be able to battle through to the higher tiers soon enough.
Bubbleline
I was definitely not expecting DC to lose to KI, seeing how they're one of the most feared teams. Then again, Krawk Island is pretty fierce. :) What I am waiting for is for a match between Darigan Citadel and Kreludor (Wooo Kreludorks!). Awesome article, you should try writing for the Neopian Times (if you haven't already) :laughingsmiley:

Person335
*looks at results* Whaaaaa? /ragequit ... Ha, just kidding. I'd never do that. We've had a couple of surprises this year, and that's why I love the Altador Cup. Perhaps the next round we'll do better? I hope!

Juniorak
It's Tyrannia time. We've come so far, there's no stopping now. #1 for now, we'll go far in the finals. :P
voteforpedro333
Great stuff as always. I might almost be glad not to be fighting in the top tier with the rest of you guys...okay yeah that's a lie. As long as you promise that the spot we've been holding for the past three years in the top tier will be filled in with another great team, then I can't really be angry at anyone. Second tier, here we come!

Second tier, here we come! What? You're giving up already? But it's only been ten days! It's not even half over! LD is an outstanding team. As a previous Lost Desert supporter, I know that your team's not one to give up easily, no matter what the circumstances. Don't let some petty superstition drag you down. It may be false. Who knows? Your team may be the one to finally defy the curse, and score in the top tier! I mean, look at Moltara. Almost dead last. Last year we got 18th place, a position that wasn't even possible in earlier AC tournaments. We stink, but we all keep our heads and our spirits high. Do me a favor, and keep yours up as well. I want to see your team rallied up and ready to throw down when we get to face you!
voteforpedro333
Giving up? Oh gosh is that what I sound like? I figured that setting a goal for second tier would help us get out of the rut, so we can aim higher when we get there. Y'now, taking each step one at a time. But if I sound like a loser then I certainly won't! Moltara is certainly a team to look up to, no doubt. That is some of the greatest morale I've ever found. Person, I'll hold you to that promise. After all, we did beat the team that is currently first in the standings, and one of two to do so....oh whoa I just noticed that. That's pretty epic... You're on, sir. antiaircraft
Ahhh. xD Well, I'm afraid I'm a little out of touch with NZ culture these days, despite having grown up there. I'll have to poke one of our NZ staffers to see if he/she can tell me a little more about the music scene there.
