It's like a group rating. It goes along with the cool person bit, if I'm not mistaken.

You start off at one dot, get another dot after making x number of posts, and so on.

And if I'm not mistaken, there are some number of dots you can only get as a moderator or support member...?

 

I may be wrong, but that's my understanding. XD

Haha I'd dig it so much if it was morse code. :) Like they said, it seems to be connected to the number of posts, and your rating. Kinda like a visual representation of a rank?
