In all honesty, I've never had any real interest in the Altador Cup... but I'd love to nab the Altador Cup Player avatar while I can. So, I was wondering... without signing up to support any particular team, can the games I play go towards increasing my rank?

Nope, you have to sign up for a team for your scores to add up towards your rank.

Or at least, that's my understanding anyways. o_O;

Aw, snap! I was afraid that was the case. -_- I'm such an indecisive person, it's hard for me to choose!

I have another question, then; how does the trophy system work? Is it based on rank and/or which team you support? If I'm going to participate, I might as well try to earn something shiny for my lookup. :P

how much do you have to play to get the avvie? Im really really bad at the game....

You don't have to play Yooyuball in order to boost your rank. Doing well in Make Some Noise, Shootout Showdown, and Slushie Slinger also helps earn you points, at least to my understanding. TDN has an awesome calculator to show you how many of those games you need to play to get the avatar. :)

Trophy-wise, if you aren't one of the top 3 teams at the end, you get a participant medal. This was mine for last year:

If you are playing for one of the top 3, the trophies vary with placement. Here was my husband's from last year's 3rd place Darigan:

I don't know if signing up before, or during the AC affects trophies.

It's 50 YYB wins, OR 100 Draws, OR 100 Slushie Slinger games over 285 points, OR 600 games of Make Some Noise over 3000 points OR 600 games of Shootout showdown over 650 points or any combination thereof. TDN has a nice Rank Calculator on the AC coverage site, here. Basically a YYB win (even if it's only by 1 point!) is one rank point, 2 draws/Slushie Slinger games is one point, 12 MSN/SSD games is one point and you need 50 to rank up, and you only need to be rank one to do it.

Did they change how much you need to play for the ranks because last year I got my first rank really fast:(
