What is all y'all's opinion on Bush's speech tonight. Good...Bad...Something Else? Remember to not just post your opinion and leave - back it up and respect everyone's opinion.

-You can read the speech here - http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/20...20070110-7.html

-And watch it here - (?)

(Also I'm sorry for being Americentric - I can't really post about the debates in other countries. Also, y'all know that you can post topics too? Not just me x_x )

Wow,no-one's posted regarding this yet?

Um, I think, after just watching the very educational Bowling for Columbine, that there shouldn't actually be such a massive number of new troops heading for Iraq...the Americans claim to have liberated the people but now the streets are full of snipers around Bagdad..it hasn't improved much...and I seriously don't see the point in sending more troops to the slaughter and to aggravate the Iraqis and their freedom fighters. What deems them terrorists when they stand up against a world power ruining their daily way of life?

I know - no one posting... and I bet you I can get this started :rolleyes_anim:

My opinion:

I still support Bush and the increase of the 20k American troops in Iraq. I think, like he said, the problem is with the "civil war" between the Shia and Sunni. Of course it isn't truly a "civil war" because it is more of the Sunni insurgents using bombs to wreck havoc on the Shia populations and then the Shia death squads retaliating by going out and hunting the Sunni pop.

Unfortunately the majority of civilians are too afraid of being killed to actually stand against the violence. What Bush is hoping to do is to curb the violence enough to get the non-violent majority going strong. And if by adding more troops and applying more curfews works - it is absolutely fine by me.

and I seriously don't see the point in sending more troops to the slaughter and to aggravate the Iraqis and their freedom fighters. What deems them terrorists when they stand up against a world power ruining their daily way of life?

First off, they are absolutely in no way shape or form "freedom fighters." They are using violent forms of genocide to gain massive amounts of power in Iraq. (Or reclaim power like some of the Sunnis who were Ba'th Party members)

It is like the north island of NZ decided to use car bombs and mass killings to set up a totalitarian state in NZ and then the south half of NZ trying to kill every single north NZder and set up a different totalitarian state. Or maybe select groups of the Scots, Welsh, Irish or the English resorting to mass genocide to gain power over the other groups - it is terrorism.

Bowling for Columbine

*puke* totally historically inaccurate

Well, i agree fully with Bush. The plan is a good idea. This is basically what's up with it. The thing is, there really isnt another option. It seems that the Democrats have other ideas, though. But not one of them is good. One option they think of is, leave Iraq. Well, that doesnt work because then we'll be blown up again. Another idea was, dont send more troops. Well that doesnt work either, because we need tons of troops to keep bagdad secure.

I also agree with Bush's strategy. I don't think sending the troops back to the U.S. is a good idea, either. The damage is already done and thousands have died so we NEED to stay there. I just hope this new strategy works because if not, they might end up trying out strategies from other parties.

I think that Bush is right to send more troops to Iraq. If we do not send more troops and finish setting up their government and put down the rebels then we will end up having another Sadaam Huisain figure. People will look back and finaly understand why Bush went in to iraq in twenty years.
