:)Doc
OK so I want to know if you all like what I did to answer this prompt. Don't be shy- I can handle bad reviews ;) Prompt!- "The themes of Diversity, Tolerance, Respect, and Justice are seen and heard in the media and all around us. Many people may make certain comments like, "That's not my job to worry about" or "That's the way my parents and their parents before them thought, so it must be O.K" Sometimes, teens have the most thought provoking ideas but are not listened to and/or heard. Write an essay addressing these issues and set forth a plan of action to implement in your local community. Your plan should include a program that educates and brings together members of the community for the purpose of "GLOCALIZATION" - locally combating a global issue. What media outlets will you use for your message? What activities will you plan for those who come together? How could you extend your program GLOCALLY"? My Response!- I think there should be more awareness of gays to get more tolerance, diversity, respect, and justice for them. I am serious- just cause you are gay doesn’t make you any difference than if you are ‘straight’. It’s annoying for people just to automatically make an assumption and declare something or someone is gay and label them that. That iss not right. The point is, there should be something done about it. I say there should be a group of people who help fight and support gay people, despite what others think. They should be able to protest around their own communities. We could also be aired on television as an activity. Other activates we could are we could make support gays shirts, protest at city halls, and just all stand around on corners of streets and hold up signs or posters. As for what media outlets we will use for our message, I would say television by far. By doing the protesting I would imagine we would get on television. For the interviews, I think it would be better if we could actually get some media cast to do an interview with the support group and probably a few gays who are fed up of being picked on just because they are different. After doing the I would imagine we would probably storm the internet from our interviews getting on the major sites to be noticed on- Youtube, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and multiple, random news sites around the world, no doubt. Adding on to the media outlets, the group should start a blog where gays around the world could come and anonymously share how they feel about us trying to help them and to talk about their own hard times with choosing this path in their life. My plan may not state it clearly, but it does educate and bring together the community. How you ask? Well, the educating comes from the protesting. The signs, the shirts, the interviews- that will all hold some information about gays, most likely being the suicide counts of gays, how many gays there are, and how many gays are being picked on because of their choice. The way this brings the community together is simple- the community altogether decides if they’re ok with gays or if they just utterly despise and don’t want anything to do with them. Now for the glocalization. I think if we got enough people to support tolerance, the diversity of, to respect, and to try and get justice for gays I think we could get Earth to start to accept gays as a whole human being- instead of a few people here and there that don’t mind. A result of doing that would mean groups all over the world helping to do the same for their own gays, just like we would be doing. Altogether, we’d have the whole world trying to get justice, tolerance and respect for gays, along with measures for their diversity. To sum it all up, basically I want to help support gays. I want to get them to stop being bullied. I want to get my message across by initially being seen on television, then moving up to be on the internet to be seen by the people who don’t watch television as frequently as others. I want my mission to support gays to educate people- the protesting would always have some facts about gays in them. I want the group to bring communities together to work towards one big goal. All in all, I want the whole mission of doing all of this to help bring about what we’ve done to hurt gays and how we are trying to say that we are sorry and that we want to help them get back on their feet and be able to face the world with a smile on their face, and without fear in their hearts. That’s what I want to do.
jesse_rocket
The one critical thing I have to say about this is a small point on language. The repeated use of the word "gays" could be seen as slightly pejorative. Like saying "blacks" or "illegals", it's a label. You might want to amend and vary some of the terms you use, with things such as "gay teenagers", "the gay community" or "lgbt individuals" (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual), or variations of the same, rather than sticking to the one term. It starts to sound a bit like a rant when it's repeated like that, along the lines of "the gays are ruining our family values" or something, which is plainly not at all what you're getting at, but does somewhat contrast with your message that sexuality should make no difference to how a person is treated. :) Aside from that, content-wise, very nice work, raising awareness is how change begins. :D
