Luciana
I'm the type of person who finds the art that comes with an album almost as important as the music itself. Hopefully some of you feel the same way and want to share your favorite album covers. Post them! :D fun.- Aim and Ignite Why?- Alopecia Circa Survive- On Letting Go Circa Survive- Blue Sky Noise
Unstream
Yeah, I agree, I like album artwork a lot, because they can be pretty cool. And unlike most people I actually add album artwork to my iTunes tracks :P Here are my top 5 (in no specific order) The Fray - Reason EP The Last Goodnight - Poison Kiss Relient K - Mmhmm Switchfoot - Nothing is Sound OneRepublic - Waking Up
Cornflakes
YESSSSS loving this thread! I LOVE album art. To me, old school vinyl album art is better than sliced bread. *Designed by art legend R. Crumb I will probably think of more later :)
Tyler.
you each posted some I was gonna post :P some of you might not be as entertained as I was
Quark
Cornflakes, as always, you have impeccable taste in music. <3 I own some of those on vinyl and great album art just shines in such a large size. Here's a few that came to mind... Neko Case always has nice album art, but this is my favorite it. I REALLY want it on vinyl, but it's so expensive. (Here's hoping that someone lovely gets it for me for Christmas!) There's something really sincere about this photo. It's blurry, it's nearly candid, it's lovely. And it goes with Beirut's music so well. I love albums with hand drawn art. The best. Technically, this is from a single, but sshhhh. Decemberists also have great album art, as a rule. Andrew Bird! I love this little creature. I have no idea what it is, but it's adorable. (And so is Andrew Bird. Shhh! ;p) Of Montreal is another band that always has wonderful art on their albums, but this is probably my favorite. It's the least busy and complex of their album covers, but that's why it stands out to me. :) I'll probably add more later! Yay.
elvenstrawberry
I was totally gonna go for Wish You Were Here. That has got to be in my top ten favorite album artwork (and music). That is one of the reasons I don't like iTunes as much. You can't always get the album cover, and the big foldouts. Here are some of my faves. CAV of Gang Green
This is a rather interesting topic. I only remember a few off the top of my head, so I'll most likely be here several times adding more. My favorite covers may be rather predictable of me. More will be added later. wafflo
I like the colorful ones, and as a designer and illustrator i prefer drawn ones. Asian Kung Fu Generation (OMG NARUTARD!, no, no i don't like Naruto i liked the band way before that show) Sol-Fa Solanin Siren Imada Minu Asu ni After Dark There are lot more of AFK covers that i love <3 Suga Shikao: FUNKASTIC Janne Da Arc: Another Story Sylvia Remioromen: Yume no tsubomi Kaze no Kuroma
Quark
Man, wafflo, can you be my designated album art finder? I will make it an official royal position. I keep thinking of really wonderful album art and then realizing that I probbbbably can't post them to TDN. :P This just looks like fun. If you're going to make an album cover, you may as well do something silly that you've always wanted to do. One of my favorite albums. So I'm probably biased. Some days I like The Flaming Lips more than others. But I always love this album cover.
Luciana
Awesome stuff, everyone. Thanks for sharing. :D Quark- Why not? Is it the cover itself or the bands name? I'm curious now! Here are some more albums- Ulver- Shadows of the Sun Soil and "Pimp" Sessions- Mashiroke Patrick Cleandenim- Baby Comes Home Manic Street Preachers- Journal for Plague Lovers (Original Painting) The cover for this one was painted by Jenny Saville, one of my favorite artists. Iron and Wine- The Shepherd's Dog Bjork- Volta
Quark
Awesome stuff, everyone. Thanks for sharing. :D Quark- Why not? Is it the cover itself or the bands name? I'm curious now! The covers themselves. :P Nothing particularly raunchy, there are just some covers I like with either drawn nudity or photographic. Led Zeppelin "House of the Holy" comes to mind. And major thumbs up for Iron & Wine. They always have such nice covers.
selusa
Ooh, I like this thread. Book and CD covers have the same appeal to me -- I usually buy the prettiest ones without knowing what's on the inside. "Don't judge a book (or album) by its cover". Pff. GBS - Fortune's Favor. Musically, not my favorite album of theirs, but by far the best looking. Takk - Sigur Ros Most of Corb Lund's albums are gorgeous. And then of course there's Meat Loaf, whose albums slap you in the face with manliness and kick you in the butt with campy awesomosness. elvenstrawberry
Haha yeah those meatloaf ones are great. It's like they took the campy-ness of the Evil Dead and combined it with metal.
Kazedo
Metallica - Black Album. :P
selusa
Haha yeah those meatloaf ones are great. It's like they took the campy-ness of the Evil Dead and combined it with metal. I know, right? I love 'em. To me they just sit there and scream "I AM SO EFFING COOL LOOK AT ME RAAAAAA." And I have no choice but to say, "Yes. Yes you are." Metaphorically, of course, Beause talking to artwork is weird.
Mazzew
I like all of The Birthday Massacre's album artwork. They're my favorite band after all!
